OFFICIAL Lachlan Galvin #277 *Released* Career Discussion.

LMFAO....Its nothing like that.
Are you seriously trying to compare a winger who played in the 50's and 60's with a playmaking 5/8 of the elite NRL era? Seriously? lol....
Also, Irvine had a 46.6% win rate there...double Lachy's here.
46% in a 10 game comp where there was only the top 4 and also the highest try score in history and a Kangaroo?
All I’m saying is just because the team’s not winning doesn’t mean you’re a crap player.

It happens every day.
Years ago my boss took me out for lunch as a catch-up. Whilst in there we ran into the services manager for Multiplex. He joined us and in front of my boss, started testing the waters about me jumping ship. He was joking about but was serious. Deals get done very quickly and without much fuss in certain circumstances. Younger workers are easily seduced. It’s not always the manager.
Funny you say that Tucker. I got poached from a former employer to become a sub-contractor to a major Sydney civil construction company (who's clients include Multiplex among them) over a coffee during my break. Two of their directors joined my usual coffee I had with one of their foremen and I wasn't sure what was going on until they cut to the chase.

Unfortunately after only 18 months I got a work ending injury thanks to the negligence of the main contractor (a major Melbourne based builder) on one of their sites as my working relationship with the firm I was sub-contracting to fantastic and beneficial to both parties, they were like family to me.

I know people are not going to like this, but the club need to make a call on Galvin pretty quick..

This is not going away and we are going to hear about this every single day for the whole year and that's just not fair on all the other players, the club and us fans.

People will say it's the media and not to worry about it but it's everywhere and it's just putting a downer on the game.

IMO he is nowhere near a million-dollar player and would rather lose him then pay like 1.2mil for a guy who has not proven a thing.
We let him test the market (give him a deadline of like a month) and either he extends with us or signs elsewhere.
IF he signs elsewhere like expected then we either look at a trade with that club to get something out of it or we play him in reserves and give Latu the starting 6 to see if he takes the opportunity. Not a fan of investing in a junior like him so the next team gets the rewards (different if he was a senior player that has proven himself and we didn't have a ready-made replacement).

Our season is going to derail if this is not sorted..

Parra has Moses on stupid money, $1.2 is not the figure for Galvin for a few years at least.

How fickle are we as a supporter base?

Lachlan hasn't said anything himself. It's all hearsay via a bloke who the world knows is a piece of sh1t.

Meanwhile, fans are calling for his head, calling for him to be sacked, dropped to reggies, released early.

We've been burnt too many times before, so I totally get the reaction. It was my first impulse too, but that just means the jerks in the media win, and we end up driving him out ourselves...

We need to show Lachie some love, not hate, not emotionally reacting to every clickbait article scum journo writes.... they speculate, its all they can do... what a job eh.... i couldn't live with myself doing it, but each to their own...

How can we do this, on mass, to show Lachie we want to keep him?
It isn't about throwing a 10 million dollar contract him, he needs to feel like he belongs at Wests Tigers...
How do we do that, as a fan base?
His manager acts on his behalf and his position is reflected in the release requests. Believe him when he tells us his manager handles negotiations. The script has been lifted from the Tedesco playbook. Marshall has a tough decision to make. Who partners Luai and benefits from his experience and knowledge?

The bloody media have an agenda to destroy this club. The slightest thing they could possibly turn into clickbait & get unhealthy conversation going they'll use to plant seeds. I don't know who's worse, the media or the player managers like Moses.

Winning is our only chance to shut the scumbags down. They will focus on someone else then

Galvin going to the market in November is not all bad for us. It gives us a season to evaluate his value to our club, rather than throwing a lot of cash at him now based on what he did last year and a lot of media hype.

The downside is the media will not let this one go till well after a contract is signed

I’m starting to think we should let him look around in the market 6 months early, gives us a chance to do the same. Doesn’t mean I’d let him leave before preseason 2026/2027 though.

Irvine was a winger and Galvin is a 5/8 just trying to add some perspective

We did that with Stef, that ended well (it kinda did given we got lucky with may)

Nah, they just know there are supporters who are going to click on their rubbish articles and share them on a forum. Which is going to encourage a whole bunch of other supporters to read their article. That’s going to encourage another hack to write a rubbish article and so on and so on. They don’t write facts anymore just make up shit for clicks.

I think we all want to see Galvin succeed. That is the overriding feeling among all supporters. However, we are all used to players using the club as either a lifeline or a stepping stone. It's rare air for us to actually have players WANT to be here, and have actual young depth coming through that look likely.

Here's my thing with the Galvin situation- nothing new, but it just seems to get overlooked.

As Tucker pointed out- Galvin was a second rower in the successful Harold Matts side (with Mason playing 5/8 for those unaware). He then shifted into 5/8 in SG Ball, and the team had less success. This doesn't mean Galvin was rubbish- don't read into it too much.

HOWEVER.

As much as Galvin is/was a promising junior coming through, the club thought SO MUCH of him as the future that they subsequently...

Chased & signed Latu Fainu for somewhere near $500k per season on a 5 year deal to play Galvin's position.
Promoted Heath Mason into the 1st grade/KOE squad.
Chased & signed Bud Sullivan for near on $500k per season.
Chased & signed Aiden Sezar.
Then, chased & signed Jerome Luai.

Now- the thing to take note of- the Tigers already HAD Galvin on the books BEFORE looking to upgrade the position not once, but 5 times.

It was after all this that Galvin proceeded to have an outstanding pre-season & play himself into 1st grade contention.

My point?

Galvin wasn't necessarily viewed as the solution. He just put his hand up first.

If Galvin uses this early momentum in his career to cash in- good for him. I take solace in the fact that the Tigers were not sold on him enough to overlook him & chase his direct replacement in Latu Fainu before then investing heavily not once, but twice, in Sullivan & Luai.

So if we lose Galvin- I don't think it is doom & gloom. I'm sure the NRL 360 guys will sell it that way- but the Tigers management showed their hand prior to any kind of Galvin success.

For me- it's a cautionary situation. They were not sold on Galvin 2 years ago. I wouldn't invest the clubs future into someone you looked to replace. On a decent contract, club friendly to some degree- fantastic. If Galvin is open to allowing players like Latu to step into 1st grade & shift position, as he did in Harold Matts, fantastic. No doubting his ability as a footballer is exciting.

But if he plays hardball, or Isaac Moses plays his tricks- I think it's important to trust the process put in place 2 years ago around the future of the Tigers halves.

Been thinking about Galvin...

He is solid, but not a match winner.
He doesn't seem to want to remain here....

So much talk about him being "the next big thing". Really we have a few players who can play 5/8 and we have good coverage there. Sure he could play lock, but so what. John Sutton was a decent player for Souths in the front row, Solid but not a standout.

Sharpe really schooled him from newcastle, no I am not saying pick another Sullivan style wonderbread. But we haven't seen Galvin turn a match around...

Really we need a very mobile 2RF. Ideally Luke Lewis in his prime. 5/8 isn't our clubs problem and while I am doubtful that Benji can train a Halfback, Benji can train a 5/8.

I'm up for developing juniors. But do we need this BS?

The more I read this, the more I think "Were we mad!"
