Credit where it's Doueihi...

Staines was improving towards the tail of last year. Was running the ball back with some real intent. I think he has to be first in if Skelton is out. Keep AD where he is and has trained all pre season.

AD is flying , been good all year
Staines was going well end last year , I would leave AD and put Staines on wing and get Taylan signed up and a Backrower as urgent , 2 spots we need more and we have injuries to Backrower and wing

I have been a big critic of this guy (AD) … but his form so far this season ( and pre season) has been very good ,,,, his goal kicking as well has been exemplary…

I think you got to re-sign him right ? Maybe 2 x $400k gets it done?

I've been a critic and also think this season he has been outstanding. He thoroughly deserves his spot. At the same time, he was absolutely terrible in that Nikorima try.
There's a few T'oa haters in here as well and I think he's also deserving of a bit of praise. When your winger scores multiples every week and class combos can't score against you, I think you're doing pretty well.
Don’t agree on the nikorima try, that was Luai’s man. He stayed on his centre which he should have Luai was a bit lazy in defence on that effort.

Happy for him solid player injuries have hurt his speed and agility. He’s a Tiger and was always an outside back.

Faataape has played a lot of wing previously.
Yeah, I haven’t really seen him play well for us on a wing though. I thought AD handled wing ok when he went there and he also carries stronger out of yardage, something Skelton has done great. Probably not what Benji will do but that’s my opinion.

I've been a critic of both Doueihi and Twal, but both have played so well in the new season that I've raised my opinion of both.
They are club stalwarts and playing like it.

I have also been a critic of AD and am very happy that he has made some great strides towards becoming a quality NRL centre.

In relation to his improved defence. I have to give him due credit because he made a couple of good calls. However, the calls he made were to follow the defensive system for that area of the field, they weren't anything that your would call an effort play. HAving said that it was a significant improvement on him rushing out of the line and being stranded.

His defining tackle last week was classic up and in, where he was able snuff the play out If the play was to get past him there was cover available, with time, space and momentum, to deal with it. This demonstrated not only an improvement in AD's ability, but also the improvement of the defensive system in general.

Contrast this against what happened on the other wing when the Phins scored their first try. Taruva did not follow Toa up and was caught waving his arms about in no mans land. (Many incorrectly calling Toa out for "rushing out of the line"). Taruva's failure to follow the system held up Bula, who probably had the time, space and momentum to use the sideline to deal with the threat. So credit to AD is deserved, but just remember that hwe was simply doing his job and following the system.

If you look more closely at his game; the 1%ers that separate valuable NRL players from the average are just not there. He gives up on the defensive play as soon as the ball is out of his corridor, as a result he hardly contributes to the scramble, he watches a spilt ball insead of putting his body over it and he makes no effort to fight to his feet once tackled.

So, despite his improvements, he is not mates/team first player. He is doing his job pretty well; but his team first and effort plays are lacking. Apart from his goalkicking there isn't much to separate him from any other journeyman centre in the NRL.

For mine his effort reflects his current salary. Now that he has mastered the basics of his job he needs to take a long hard look at himself in the mirror and live up to his claims of being a leader. Once he does that - then it may be time to chat about a contract extensiuon. Until then he can go an play for one of the other 16 clubs and we can buy in, or develop, a centre with ability and passion.

Great post Jolls.

I don't necessarily agree with you- I like what Doueihi brings to the team- but you make a good reasoned point & give me something to look out for in future games he plays in.

Don't get me wrong he is doing his job, but I think we need better if we want to win a permiership. Compare ADs off the ball effort to Luai's fight to crawl for the ball after the kick or his try saving scramble. You can also contrast it against the effort of Farnsworth to fight for every inch and to get to his feet after every play. Make that comparison and you will see pretty clearly what is missing from his game.

Unfortunatley AD talks leadership but doesn't provide it. If Benji can add that to his game then he is a keeper. Until he has that heart and drive, and I'm sorry to say it as I like the guy, he can be a weakness in somone else's team that we can target on our way to a permiership.

I get it. Just we possibly have a sharp shooter on our hands. It really helps. Every single point. More importantly his heart is in the right place. He be learning I say. If Galvin is 20 million than Luai is 40 million. Api 40 million.

I've never been a critic of Douehi but admit he's had bad games in past years especially when surrounded by weak team mates
But this year kicked 11 out of 13 and quite a few out wide and one of his 2 misses hit the post
In general play he's doing what most of the team are doing
That is doing their job !
His angled kick for the Galvin try vs Parra was brilliant
Hes been up against top quality centers 3 weeks in a row
