Jahream Bula #269

Bula is a good fullback with a better than average attack and under the high ball but unfortunately has a suspect defence.
I think it's a bit of a stretch as far as NRL fullbacks are concerned to say that Bulla has a better than average attack, he's got a long way to go.

Agree on the defensive issues, he seems to have gone backwards in that department, it may be that he is still very apprehensive after his shoulder surgery.

I guess the question is he in the top seven full backs?

Watching that try unfold I couldn’t believe they scored it. Bula completely mistimed his attempt to stop it. He had their player covered easily and could have either locked him into the sideline or even shadowed him for a few more metres and pounced on his back. He seemed to make a complete meal of his attempt, as did Bird who didn’t cover their support player in the case of an inside pass nor did he have a shot at the ball carrier.
Our whole edge was out of position and defensive line was a mess.

I think a few people are being a bit harsh on him.

To single out the most memorable one I saw yesterday, well he was on a hiding to nothing.

Anyone who's ever been in the situation he was in would know that with a lot of open space like that you have to slow yourself to tackle and anticipate a step.

The positive thing is there is a lot of time to do this.

I think people are neglecting the fact it was wet and looked very boggy under foot - as evidenced by both he and Bird missing and appearing to both take large divots rather than slipping.

With poor ground under foot, and the time and space afforded to the winger (when to do his step), Bula faced a pretty tough assignment. Basically worse odds than a two on one overlap.

Maybe he'll learn from this and won't get all the way to the winger next time before trying to tackle.

Poor read of the track maybe, but then as I said, the guy did the same to Bird too.

I do have Bula-coloured glasses on, and there are probably other mises he did, but that break in particular I can't judge him harshly on.

Both had bad attempts you don't agree?
Doubt anyone could or would disagree with that - very Socratic!

But in those conditions he had next to no chance.

Bird is very experienced and he made the exact same mistake he'd just seen Bula make less than a second earlier...

They had a last minute injury, in-game injuries leaving them with no one on the bench, players out of position right across, at least two brain explosions on the wings, and a (successful) deliberate attempt to milk a penalty for a high shot that was the least sporting thing I've seen since the infamous cowboys game.

That penalty literally lost them the game; they won by those 2 points!

None of that was Bula's fault.

To say Bula cost them the game is just nonsense.

When Jarhream Bula sucks ass in tomorrow's game and let's in 4 tries again I don't care how articulate you are I am going to tell you how dogshit he is and I don't want people say he's not playing with the real starting team, if he's so good he should be able to hold his own with bums and I want people to actually watch how bad bula's defence is, I see it every game I watch, I would take any other fullback in the league right now over Jarhream Bula. Jarheam Bula is the 18th best full back in the league right now with Heath Mason being the 17th best fullback in nrl.
