Our close losses to Newcastle and Warriors show we're still a team that can't quite get it done, and the Broncos exposed us defensively, though I thought they were very classy players who did it. I just don't think we've really shown anything yet.

I'd love to see us win, I think it would prove significant progress for this club as I feel like we've had trouble winning in Newcastle for a while. At the same time, a loss would not be disastrous, but would just signal that our sense of early season progress is a little inflated.
I think this is pretty good summary of where we are at. This week is a should win, but Newcaslte at home are usually difficult and Best, Gags and Ponga can be a handful - it only takes that one lack of concentration for them to turn it into points.

We have points in us; despite us not getting the attack right yet. At some point Romey and Galvin are going to cause some real problems for the opposition defence. I think our edge attack is starting to get better (and yes we could use someone better than Seyfarth in that role).

The key this week is our line speed, we can't give Best or Ponga room to play or they will hurt us. Shut them down and they should leak a few points.

Match Preview: Wests Tigers vs Knights in Newcastle
This Sunday, we head up the M1 to Newcastle to take on the Knights — a trip that’s traditionally gone to custard. It’s been seven straight losses to Newcastle, and most of us can’t remember the last time we beat them; we’ve blacked it out for self-preservation.

But hang on, this week there’s hope. Real hope. Like, “half their team is busted” kind of hope. The Knights are held together with strapping tape and good vibes; no Saifiti, no Cogger, no Elliott no Hetherington and no Schiller. They’re debuting blokes who were filling out dole forms last Tuesday. If we can’t jag a win here, we probably couldn't score a meat pie at a bakery.

For us Luai returns from suspension with no interest in playing the quiet game. Expect the full Luai experience: a bit of lip, chaos, and probably a chip-and-chase on tackle one just to outdo Lachie’s effort last week. Good to see Skelton and Sam F back too; with our top 17 available we should rock Newy on Sundy.

The data nerds reckon the Knights are 63% favourites. That’s probably based on things like "form", "structure" and having Ponga and Best in the side. But let’s be honest: the Knights aren’t exactly flying. They’ve just been pantsed by the Dogs, their defence has more leaks than we had when the clowns were in charge and they can’t score a meat pie to save themselves.

If we can hold the ball for more than three tackles and not fall asleep on the edges in defence, this could be our first half-decent Sunday in a while.

Prediction: Tigers by 14.

Just hope our 3 players coming back are fully fit and not rushed back, need to get through the whole game so not to cause disruption.

Hi Novocastrian Tigers,

What is the feel in the town on the eve of the game? Are they talking it up, as ususal, or has the injury toll dampened their enthusiasm a little? No doubt they will have a good crowd tomorrow which will give them a bit of a boost.

The knights page said there’s only 1,000 tickets left so that indicates they’re still pretty enthusiastic

28k+ crowd, gonna be tough

I was at the ground when they played the Raiders 1st round last season with a 25k crowd, put a couple of tries on them in front and they get quiet just like any other ground.
Get out there boys and hit em hard early that should shut them up.

Im on us 13+ $11 to win $50.
After this review, where’s the deeds?

The word up here on Lake Mac, Jolls is that despite the number of outs they have they still expect to win. Newcastle supporters are real diehards. They feel they will win but not by as much as if they were at full strength. Considering they have beaten us in the last 7 games we have played, they do have some reason to feel cocky. My mate who lives around the corner thinks they will automatically make the eight again this year. He regards it as a given. Would really like to put a couple of meat pies on them early and ratchet the score up in the second half. Go you Tigers.

I am surprised how confident some forumers are. We need to be completely switched on for this. They still have heaps of firepower in the backs and the likes of Frizell and newcomer Cant can do some damage up front. A win is not going to be a given...

And we've really not been that great the past two weeks. Better than last year no doubt but we have had 74 scored against us in two games. The bookies are right to be cautious.

Exactly right. If we were fair dinkum we should have put the warriors away. The 1st half against the broncos was some of the best footy we’ve played this year, too bad it was followed up with our 2nd half which was our worst footy of the year
