Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

You realise Richardson played a big role in this?
There’s no reason this couldn’t wait until November, when we hopefully would have had more data to use in our negotiations. Talking after we played finals would have changed perceptions a bit.
Probably wouldn’t have made a difference, but it may have.

Respectfully, I disagree. He apparently didn’t even review the offer. Why would you want him at the club if he doesn’t want to be here?

As members, we deserve to know when a player has declined to even review an offer made to them rather than holding false hope he will stay.

We get to put the dilemma of Fainu/Galvin to bed, move forward and explore other players on the market.

There is no reason to keep it a secret.

So what’s the real reason?
Are they making him the top earner in the comp?
It’s a baffling decision unless he’s getting a massive increase from what Richo offered. To that point, they didn’t even negotiate and try and get that offer raised.
It doesn’t make any sense other than he completely hates being a Wests Tiger. If that’s the case, why hasn’t that been identified earlier?

Probably had a deal done at Parra at the same time Moses changed his contract

I don’t want it kept secret, I’m questioning the timing of the meeting.

So moving forward hopefully we get some news about a few extensions.

Doueihi - 2 years
Naden - 1 year
Mason - 2 years
Luke Luailli - 2 years

Sukkar - Activate the Club Option for 2026 & add 2027

Toa & Da Silva extend until 2028. They are contracted for 2026 already.

The makes 25 on the books for the top 30.

No other real regular first graders missing.

All should be pretty good value except for maybe Doueihi, Toa & Da Silva will have to pay market value. Maybe overs for Da Silva slightly.

5 spots plus plenty in the bank can target at least 2 big names IMO.
Good god

Thank goodness you're not associated with the club.

None of those players have done anything what so to warrant a new contract. We got into this mess my handing out undeserved contracts to nobodies like Naden.

We have lots of poor quality depth players currently, we need to be aiming much higher. We need forwards to ban bust the line. Backs who can run the length of the field without getting caught. We need to recruit externally, Laulilii and Mason may get new deals. Luke first, Mason is a 14, and we have tal for that role. Potentially Haywood in a year or two too.

Realistically Luke and Mason are still 18 months away from first grade standard and should not be on top 30 deals. Sukkar would be 2-3 years minimum from first grade. Naden and Doueihi are fringe first graders, the ones you sign at the last minute if you can't get anyone better.

It's your overall positivity I appreciate the most.

I understand the risk, but Richo’s job is to find a way to get the deal done. I don’t think this approach had much chance of succeeding.
Several reasons they had to put an offer to him now.
1. They could still upgrade him this year. So a further financial incentive if he had resigned.
2. You wait til the end of the season the player is definitely going to the market as November 1 would be only a month away.
3. There has been media speculation over his contract since round 1. You do not want this circus to happen on the eve of the semis if we are in a position to make it.
4. The contract being 1mil, has a huge effect on recruitment and retention.

That all makes sense but this is a special case. The kid hasn’t been impressed with the club up until now, his manager hates the joint and holds grudges and his father likes the thought of him elsewhere.

Trying it on now left us with no leverage. Had we had a successful season with him thoroughly enjoying his connections as well as seeing what the vision is first hand, we may have turned his head. When you leave yourself open to failure, it generally occurs. Anyway, it doesn’t matter now. Cats out of the bag and the season is affected anyhow.

the kid is a dog imo , He left us with 20months leverage in the work place .Should we buy DCE or Renyolds

I agree he'd be more likely to re-sign if we're more successful this year, but there's no certainty he will change his mind and his history of release requests and carry on probably gave Richo a sense it wasn't ever happening. They've probably had enough conversations with family and player to understand that.

You just don't want the club dragged through an even bigger mess after investing another season in a raw Galvin in the halves when he doesn't even want to be here.

Get an offer in, even if it means you're less likely to have it accepted, and stop the stupid games and commotion that Moses tries at clubs. Keep in mind they were already at it only last year with release requests, rumours and big media circus. It's just an unnecessary ticking time bomb waiting to happen. Now the direction of club and player is clear and if Moses starts commotion there's no bargaining chip to use against the club.

I think it's unusual for this to all be done so early, but the club has to make decisions about their future halves, it's too critical to put off with contracts and players futures all interconnected. Like keeping doueihi now seems much more important where we were rumoured to be offering him to st George in the offseason.

So I get your point, that patience makes it more likely, but that was probably extremely unlikely, especially if luai and Galvin weren't gelling, so it's right that the club made a decision now. You only have to look back to Mitchell Moses to see what dragging this out can look like.
Two points

Mitchell Moses was no where as good at the Tigers cos of Brooks

Luai and Galvin not gelling was clear from day 1

'Geez, tough marker!

Another reason to have waited.
@Tucker Tuck, I think this was a cultural issue. I don’t think he even liked our place before Luai, Turuva and May. Add these big characters, to something he didn’t like, and from I can tell, a bright star is still a square peg. I think we knew this, made an offer he wasn’t going to accept, the whole thing blew up into a 4 day media circus, Now it’s done. We can focus on others and who knows …

..,edit good poster who said Fainu is preferred. And if the case another reason, and where the bro culture and long term preference of Latu in the halves meant we could not table an offer that he would accept. Club and galvin different directions. This morning, i think he plays well, we make finals this year. Trade him and go top 4 next 🤔🙏

It’s in the clubs best interest to commence discussions with a player before they go on the open market, I also think they knew that he was only a slim chance of staying if that, by making a solid offer before hand it shows we are interested but doesn’t allow us to be used as leverage. What I don’t think the club anticipated is the coaching grievances and the leak to the media and the subsequent player reaction to Galvin.

I also think this whole thing has galvanised (pardon the pun) the players and may actually contribute to our success.

This is all based on the premise that we were a chance of keeping him which I think is evident from his and managers actions was never going to happen.

My work takes me into the Port around NSW i do see a lot of past players this morning i talked to a couple of them they were all pretty adamant that Galvin and TDS will be all Bulldog players sooner than later. Shows you how sneeky Gus is.
