With Toa and himself either side of Galvin , that edge has very limited issues , even with Galvins catching style that basically nearly always puts the defence on the back foot.
But like I said if you don’t value seyfarth , then you’ve got rocks in your head. Especially with Toa in form outside him . There’s absolutely something to be said for reliable , always in the frame , making cover tackles , getting back in defence when the opposition makes a break , always running your lines .
I’ll give you one example of what I’m saying . There was a play early in the first half when the dragons made. Half break down the left edge . Seyfarth was on the left edge middle third making the tackle . Basically 4 players across from where he was supposed to be , because Samuela , and the middles were still getting onside.
He then shifts to the right and ends the set inside Galvin covering a spread to the right side .
I don’t think he made either of those tackles , and you wouldn’t even notice if you haven’t played edge forward before . Because initially I was wondering why he was 4 players out of position , and then I realised he had moved progressively across there both through half breaks and the run of play .
Not everyone does that shit. They get back to thier assigned position and stay there. That’s just an example of the player I think Seyfarth is . That’s desire , heart , and willingness to make efforts upon efforts for your team .
That’s pretty much the exact opposite of mediocrity.

I respect your opinion, but he does not walk into every teams 17. Hate to be 'that guy' but iv'e spoken to two good friends who are at two different clubs (top 30) and they have both mentioned that Seyfarth is consistently identified as the point of attack (weak link) due to his poor discipline, lateral movement and technique. Basically, in video sessions other clubs identify him and look to exploit him. That is coach driven.

Full transparency, i have been critical of Seyfarth in the past and have backed that up with reasoning. But i also will say that hes been better in some areas this year.. But to say he walks into every 17 is honestly ridiculous. He has been in the NRL set up for 5-6 years and other than the Warriors 3 years ago no team has shown any interest in Seyfarth.

Im not here to talk down on Seyfarth, I personally think he has improved this year so credit where credit is due. But the reality is this. Does he deserve to be in the NRL? Yes. Is he a starting backrower that will get you into the top 4 or in a premiership? no.

His metreage is well below average, he has slow play the balls, his discipline is really poor, he has bad errors in him and above all he makes the worst mistakes at the absolute worst times (eg. gave the penalty away for the warriors to win, gave the error which lead to the Mulitalo try before half time in the sharks game).

The issue is that the forum is split into the 'hate Seyfarth' and the 'love Seyfarth camp' so much that neither camp can see the reality. The haters dont think he should be in the 17, and the lovers are living on pure copium and will defend mediocrity until the end, even if it means that team doesnt get better.

In my opinion everyone just needs to accept that Seyfarth is a good clubman, decent player and deserves to be in the squad, however if we want to be a serious title contender he needs to be number 15-20 in the squad. Solid bench/depth player.

Love this post. I'm a big red fan, he seems like he just loves footy. But the thing that is most appealing is the wage he is on. And every team in the comp needs a player that does the 1 percenters in the NRL every week, works hard at training and takes on criticism to constantly improve while being on a lower teir contract.
2-3 years ago he was playing the wrong role in the team, he was playing that "give us 20 mins of aggression " role and I think he got carried away a fair bit. I think those performances have tainted some people's opinions of him. Where as this year he has been solid and reliable.

Samuela is now on less.
 
My take on Bird is pretty simple , he comes on adds spark , defends , and makes a small positive difference, last year our reserves did nothing , Bird has been a solid addition off the bench , worth every penny , look back on our previous recruitment, it was shit , Bird is value , May is gold , Luai is gold , Turuva is good , Skelton when on field is silver , Pole is gold , Bulla is Silver / gold , we need 3 more solid players and we win a comp

Nailed it. Right now he deserves to be our starting second rower. Come next year, I doubt he's in that spot.

Looking down the NRL team lists, I genuinely don't think any club would start him over their current second rowers.

He's also not as cheap as everyone thinks - he is earning decent money.

I reckon he was decent to start the year but recently he is dropping off tackles, being over the top agro like Bateman used to do instead of just concentrating on getting his job done. I still think there is a place for him in the 17 but he needs an attitude check. The try he let in against Parra because he thought it was more important to throw the players headgear away stays with me.

That would be pretty the worst thing Benji could do at this point. The just thing we need against a fired up storm team is a 16 man roster. Bird has been decent, competes. He's ten miles ahead of Sukkar

Seyfarth is a solid squaddie for any NRL club. If he's starting then you've got a weak squad. For most clubs he'd be 17-20 in their roster. A fringe player who plays maybe 12-13 matches a season, a handy backup to plug a gap on the bench. But he's still barely a first grader, despite his improvement his disciplinary is atrocious, his handling is poor, his lateral defence is terrible. His metreage is poor. He's all effort and enthusiasm, which is much needed, he gives everything he's got but simply trying hard doesn't get a run in most 17s.

agree with most of the words you said there mate . I’ve also got a few friends in clubs outside Sydney , and they’ve investigated into seyfarth and have been told he doesn’t want to leave Sydney .

That could be bullshit , it sounds true . I know he’s valued around the nrl .
But like you said , he’s not a top second rower in the nrl.i never once said he was . Just that he’s valued , very similar to my opinion of Brooks when he was here . Is there better out there ? Of course , but does he do a job and is he undervalued ? Yes to both those as well.
This whole convo about seyfarth started because I said our fan base has ridiculous expectations regarding KPP, in that he’s not good enough for us .
Just because I value the guy doesn’t mean I’m Obtuse to his limitations, and standing in the game .
Both things can be right at one time .
That last line about mediocrity is horse shit though , and undermines your whole post . Nobody is endorsing mediocrity .
He’s a decent footy player who can play in the middle and on the edge . A former nsw u19s rep , and valued personality around the club . In a perfect world he’s your 17th man / 18th man . That’s where I value him .
But he’s doing a good job right now in that edge , and I give credit where credit is due . Something many people on here are unwilling to have . Opinions that are fluid , and applicable to the situation today .

Yes, pretty much sums up the situation. This is his 6th season.

This, the guy is depth at best in a good team. The guy wouldn’t even sniff a top 17 spot in any top 8 team unless they had an injury crisis. Seyfarth has literally cost us games and almost given others with his piss port discipline. The issue is he has little to no competition for that spot and

Reality is we had certain posters on here who latched on to him early because they saw his one 50 tackle game from three years ago and now use that as the reason why they think he’s a good player while ignoring 95% of his career where he has been below average These people refuse to entertain the idea that they may have been wrong about him despite all evidence showing that they are. Hell, we had a poster claim we didn’t need ANGUS CRICHTON because we had Seyfart so that’s the level of delusion we’re dealing with from that camp. Funnily enough, it’s the same posters who defended Brooks till the very end so take that for what it’s worth.

While that poor excuse of a second rower is starting in our team, we will always be limited.

Bird is the word for me, I guess, his best and worst games are not as far apart. Where as Naden, he is like a box of chocolates with to many Turkish delights, or bullets, or he is more like pumpkin covered in chocolate. Anyway I think you get where I’m coming from; we need better centre depth so we don’t have to crappy chocolates.

Centre was always going to be our major weakness this year especially after our best centre (Olam) was forced to retire due to injury.We need good replacements asap

But at this point we have no one better to replace him with.
Hoping one day we can afford to have Seyfarth, Staines and Naden all as reserves meaning our squad would be much stronger than it is now.
We are building just need IMO
another 2 seasons to get there.
