A well deserved win with good effort from all players, but geez we didn’t beat much.
Yeah good workman like performance to grind out the win 24-6. It was disappointing to let them in for the late try as our defence was very good all game. But yes, Rabbitohs look a worse outfit than us in Cup.

TDS looked a class above & was good for him to get in 80 mins. A couple of errors but probably our best and most of our players had a couple of errors in them.

Mason was very good too but for the millionth time is not a fullback as he doesn't like to attack high balls in defence.

Tui'tupou was great out of yardage as was Faataape who was the best centre on the field. El Zakhem runs strongly, always seems to get into a position to offload, just made a couple of errors but continues to be one of our best at this level. Kurt Falls was very good in a traditional game management role.

Jaxson Rahme was great in his 40-45 mins with his carries and defence and, last but not least, Krystian Mapapalangi has that x-factor ... involved in 3 of our tries and just looks the type.

PS. Matamua got on for 10 mins at the end.

Nothing impressive, they beat the team coming last.... A wins a win yes but it's against the worst team in the comp

I'll take a win anyway it comes. Despite their lowly position on the ladder, Souths fielded a decent team including Casey, Meyers, Schuster, Dodd, Keppie, Mitchell and Host.

Krystian Mapapalangi was our best for the second week straight. If he continues his good form, he might even crack first grade this season, most likely in the centres. He has a good passing game and speed, though he would be tested in defence.

The funniest moment in the game was Schuster walking 30m backwards and submitting in the tackle towards the end. He's Jacin Sinclair level squandered talent. The smartest thing Benji ever did was to ignore Fulton's recommendation to sign Schuster. If Bennett can't motivate him, nobody will.

I had a good feeling we would bounce back that’s great heading into the Bye

The boys can freshen up and ready to fire next week

Comp is tight, more wins and we’ll be surging up the ladder

Following up on my previous report, the match stats back up the performances of ...

Jaxson Rahme 56 mins 189 running metres (1st), 62m post contract, 24 tackles, 3 missed, 1 error.
Elie El Zakhem 80 mins 117 running metres, 45m post contact, 3 offloads, 37 tackles, 6 missed, 2 ineffective.
Krystian Mapapalangi 80 mins, 1 try assist, 1 line break assist, 20 tackles, 0 missed.

Tuitupou also ran for 168m (72m post contact), 5 tackle breaks, 2 errors; Feledy 119m (37m post contact, 5 tackle breaks, Mason 116m (44m), 1 line break, 1 try assist, 2 tackle breaks, 0 missed, 3 kicks defused, 2 errors & TDS 69 mins for 9 runs, 82m, 2 tackle breaks, 7 dummy half runs for 67m, 89 passes, 32 tackles, 4 missed, 3 ineffective, 2 errors, 2 penalties against.

On top of the two points against Souths,
Wests have the bye this week.

The Mighty Magpies are charging up the ladder 👍
Newtown (5th) and then Canterbury (6th) in our next two fixtures

They aren't a good side but they really have not had a friendly draw, 6 of 11 games against sides currently in the top 5, and their next 2 are currently 5th and 6th.

That really is a horror draw for any side.

Just a club doing their best to survive, still chasing $$$, and at least they mentioned the NRL game .......
And some people suffer from tunnel vision in that we have 2 'legitimate' teams to follow, being Wests Tigers and WESTERN SUBURBS MAGPIES, but can't or won't accept that.

Rahme looks solid enough to be a potential NRL call up if required.
He’s very much in the Alex Twal mould albeit a bit smaller, nothing flash and no great impact, but looks very reliable.
El Zakhem has a bit of x-factor in his attack as an edge back rower, but suspect in defence, I’m not sure if we can cope with anymore suspect defenders in our NRL team at the moment.

Totally agree
When the merger took place despite being a lifelong Balmain supporter I decided that the only way the new club will be successful is if everyone supports Wests Tigers and only Wests Tigers ! So that's what I did
Its accurate to say that in the last 20 years (2006-2025) Wests Tigers on average have been the least successful club in the NRL
Reason being half the fan base have as their first love other football clubs
That is Balmain Tigers and Western Suburbs Magpies
These are dying clubs and I believe if their was only one club in all grades or at least Nrl ,Cup and Flegg then Wests Tigers would be a Rugby League powerhouse !

What nonsense.

Players moving up and down from the NRL to the NSW Cup team are not affected in the slightest by the different branding. It does rile some of the fans, but last time I checked, fans don’t earn competition points.

Your reasoning would of course suggest that Cronulla’s quest for a second premiership has been held back in recent years by their affiliation with Newtown 🥴 And I’m not sure what you’d make of Melbourne’s lower grade arrangements 🤔

I'm sure it doesn't worry them,
But How much you wanna bet all those extended Squad members / Reserve Graders
are telling anyone who'll listen they're playing for the Wests Tigers - Not the Wests Magpies?

💯
What rugby league player runs on the field on game day worrying about their board members, CEO or what Balmain Tigers or Wests Magpies fans are thinking ?
Blaming poor onfield performances for these type of issues is just an excuse, poor onfield performances are purely the responsibility of the coaching staff and playing roster.
Sure the playing roster is generally moulded by back room staff such as the recruitment team, but for us it has been confirmed by Richo himself that he is currently in charge of recruitment/retention with Benji’s input.

Remember the olden days when the argument against amalgamation through the Grades,
What about Parra, Dragons, Manly, Souths, Canberra, Sharks, Roosters, Knights etc.
"It doesn't bother them that they have a differently branded feeder team"
Well, History tells us that it did bother them....

All but 1 team have since woken up and have common branding through the Grades.

The Sharks probably would have long ago as well, If they didn't spend every other year looking for a Major Sponsor or scraping together money to finish the work down at Under Construction Park
