Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Before we go signing another half, let's get latu a fair crack until November.
i agree, but for abundant caution, we need another half.

That nice lady who does our stats. The super geek.

Im sure she can pick up a bargain somewhere.

Id love her to do her thing with her calculator, crunch every player and come to the conclusion that pound for pound, someone like Faatape is going to be an immortal.

And from round 14, he should better than Luai.

It may be she nails the next Taylan May for $250k.

If she can turn us around, NASA will pick her up.

I mean he is clearly better than Naden…not the worst option but ain’t going to do diddly squat to move us up the ladder long term.
Funny that. A few people were cracking it when Talau first went to Manly and Junior Tupou went to the Dolphins that we were losing squad strength. Both currently playing reserve grade at their new clubs. On another cheery ex Tiger note, Ice might be about to pick up yet another wooden spoon!

The Bulldogs have some halves academy.

They've been putting a lot of work into developing players for the future.

The ones they've really earmarked are;
- Mitchell Woods
- Joseph O'Neil
- Alex Conti
- Cassius Tia

I daresay with this recent Galvin news, the spotlight is on these guys.
Ripe for the picking.

Just to add to this… this was a statement from Gus a few days ago before the Galvin news broke:

"He's still only young, but he's showing really positive signs. We're not rushing him at all, there's no need to rush him - as I always say, the career of a professional playmaker is between the ages of 25 and 35 and he's still SG Ball, he's still 19.

Do you reckon Mitchell Woods is going to be pleased reading this knowing they’re going to give his jersey to another 19 year old and build the team around him.

While other clubs like us can give him the opportunity to showcase himself like we gave to Galvin last year.

I’d be making it really clear if they want Lachie e early we scrap the transfer fee and get Woods to compensate for us losing a high quality half early in this contract.

6. Luai
7. Woods
9. TDS
13. Latu

Looks like a solid spine to build around for the future.
Woods was named but did not play Flegg for Bulldogs today. Could this be a late twist? Hoping!

Conti’s the one we should be pushing for, left foot kicker, Anasta managers him and he is a tigers junior.

Anyone else concerned Parra now have no 5/8 signed for next year and a million dollars available to sign one.
Possibly one that has an option in his contact at the end of the year and has a good working relationship with their halfback?

Up and coming gun at the Bulldogs;
May feel his path is blocked, especially if they sign Burton.
All the talk is around the kid, Woods, being the future 7 at the club.

Might be worth a look, our first choice backup.
We go hard for Woods now, no doubt.

All this Blues talk, none of it positive. I can't remember an Origin lead up with such little focus on the game. This is no benefit to Daley. I love beating QLD but surely we're outsiders.
I'm not really big on Origin personally. Gave up on it when I got sick of blokes being pick on name and not position. Like N.S.W will have 4 weekly playing fullbacks playing in the centres, wing and fullback just to acclimate blokes and I'd be thinking what's the point trying to make origin if your a centre or winger. Personally the N.S.W team should be picked by position not name. Best centre at centre, lock at lock. Not a 5/8 at lock because there's another 5/8 they want to put in the team. I know Qld do the exact same thing. But this year I hope Qld put them to the sword, noone can justify to me the way the clubs going that we don't have 1 N.S.W player in the squad. May and Api were certainties imo. They're only crime is they're playing for the Tigers. Screw Daley and N.S.W hope Qld rip them apart.

Don't be sorry, loved the essay.
Honestly I don't disagree with a single thing you have written. Buy in and culture are all important and I agree it appears to be something all are delivering.
Again I agree all are/will be genuine first graders. I don't want to suggest none will prove to be very good players for the club in the future. My only point of contention, and it appears you may somewhat agree given you have noted some of their individual weaknesses, is they aren't yet.

My opinion is they are not currently performing to their value, without regard for what they may one day produce.

You appear to be putting more stock in what they look likely to do with the right supporting cast given they have the all important building blocks of ability and attitude. I don't disagree with that.
Other thing we need to remember to keep things in a bit more context is that our total lack of depth is completely detrimental to these guys ability to develop properly and just do their jobs. Imagine being in a workplace where the guy next to you needs help every few minutes. Then the next week it's the person 5 people down from you, your productivity would cop a beating, I'd imagine it's much the same with us in that the guys we need to rely on to do what they do best can't just focus on themselves and what they do but need to help out the other guys at times aswell. In a hardened N.R.L squad it's fine there's plenty of leaders and players with experience to help out, but a squad like ours it has a detrimental effect, maybe next year with another year of grade and more experience the squad handles it better, but we need more depth just regular tradesman type players, guys that can just do a job, that'll help Luai and co out massively.

How do they fit him under the magical bulldogs cap. What a grub Gould is . Should be made exit his media roles clear conflict of interest
What passes me off is his value is close to 1 million. I think 1 million was way overs for him but that's what we offered, how can the N.R.L now turn around and allow another club to sign him for around 750k. He shouldn't be allowed to be signed for less than 900k if the salary cap is fair. If a club values him at 1 million how can the game allow him to sign for 25% less at the competition leaders so they can fit him in their cap. The systems busted.
