Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Luai is the reason why many players have joined the club. He is the glue, together with Koroisau, which binds the team together. He goes about his work with the minimum of fuss and maximum of effort. He has matured as a player and as a man. He is one of, if not our best, purchases together with Koroisau.
Who has joined the club because of Luai?
Turuva maybe.
He did know May from his teen years, although the front rower was at Wests previously and the Benji thing seems to have sealed that deal.
Hunt, Bird ?

May was actually with Luai in the UK when the Roosters dumped him …I don’t doubt that Luai would have got in his ear about joining the Tigers ..: if we don’t have May and Turuva , how would we be going this year.?they have been two of the three best players so far this season ( Bula the other)

The Bulldogs have some halves academy.

They've been putting a lot of work into developing players for the future.

The ones they've really earmarked are;
- Mitchell Woods
- Joseph O'Neil
- Alex Conti
- Cassius Tia

I daresay with this recent Galvin news, the spotlight is on these guys.
Ripe for the picking.
They would have it
Woods
Tia
O'Neil
Conti.

I would target them in that order too.

If Galvin goes it would literally leave us with one fit half in our top 30

Agree.

I think they'd want to keep Woods at all costs however the other may be on the table.

Tia is a wild card.
He's got a very high ceiling.

Mapa is the only one on that list that deserves a promotion. Promoting anyone else is a Major insult to the club and it's members

El-Zakhem would be a servicable replacement for 1-2 games a season. I have been pushing Mapapalangi's case since he returned from the Knights. He is far and away the most talented back in our KOE side, though admittedly that's a low bar.

But we need reinforcements in the forwards, and quality ones at that. If we can land a 12 and/or 13, Twal and Seyfarth can move into our prop rotation where they belong.

What passes me off is his value is close to 1 million. I think 1 million was way overs for him but that's what we offered, how can the N.R.L now turn around and allow another club to sign him for around 750k. He shouldn't be allowed to be signed for less than 900k if the salary cap is fair. If a club values him at 1 million how can the game allow him to sign for 25% less at the competition leaders so they can fit him in their cap. The systems busted.

I am sure underhand payments and sweetener deals don't just involve players but cover the entire spectrum of the game.Yes there are certainly many honest people at all levels of the game (just like society in general) but there are always some people who aren't.

anyone who thinks turuva, skelton and may and all the rest of them didn’t sign because of Luai has rocks in their heads lol. this club has never been able to attract good players, and as soon as we announced Luai was coming to us that has changed.

I'm sure it helped
- May was certainly clear than Benji won him over....

One person's value isn't another's. There would have been a lot of factors taken into account in the offer he didn't see - potential, keeping a player in a position we lack, making it high enough to ward off other clubs etc. Those factors don't come into it when he's released from his contract and and a new club can discount several of those to arrive at their value.

The strong become stronger while the other teams suffer. Gould wouldn't be such a force without the backing of the club benefactor.

The early nineties was a funny time at the back for Wests - during Devine’s time he variously battled with Danny Peacock, Russell Wyer, Mark Bell, Jason Alchin & Anthony Xuereb for the #1 jersey.
I have a white jersey with all those legendary players on it. The few perks of having family in the refs.
Mark Bell, leading try scorer his first year with us I think. Winger?
