OFFICIAL Taylan "Tiny" May

This. When your depth consists of Naden, Feledy and Fataape, you take the risk of signing Taylan.
Think we've seen enough of Taylan to know he'd be our best outside back, by far.

It's actually frustrating that we are in the box seat for this type of player & we're essentially missing out [unless we aren't, which I am hopeful for]

Naden [off contract, shouldn't be offered another contract from us]
Feledy [Off contract, not top 30 quality]
Faatape [Off contract, NSW cup quality]

AD is also off contract.
Starford Toas final contract year is 2026.
Makasini isn't ready, just yet.
Staines off contract this year as well.

So our backs locked in are;
Luke Lualilii - i rate him, good prospect
Jeral Skelton - been good, injury prone
Sunia Turuva - top tier player
Starford Toa - contract season
Makasini [ zero first grade experience ]
Solomone Saukura [WHO?]

This clearly needs addressing and Tay May should've been the first step.

No doubt Taylan has a screw loose and would be a risk but when your starting centres are AD and T’oa, you take a chance on someone who was arguably one of if not the best centres in the game when he was playing.

He’d have his older brother here, wouldn’t be on much coin, is only 23 and would have the bonus incentive of working towards a bigger contract.

If he steps out of line, you cut him loose.
I think May is probably not viewed as that important because To’a and AD haven’t been terrible this year and AD kicks the goals. We also have a couple of average back ups with Fg exposure. I assume they’re really focused on forward depth.

Probably, the club gets a woody for anyone who manages to string at least two good games together in a row and lets them live off that for the following 4 years.

They’re should be focused on depth across the board considering we also have several backs off contract after this season as well as having several open roster spots this year.

Exactly.

No reason too that we have to start Taylan at Center.
He could drop in and replace Bird, or carry 2 backs on the bench like Benji usually does...
Hunt, Sukkar, Taylan, Bird isn't such a bad rotation.... No it's kinda a bit bad, but as bad as others we have run this year.

Taylan would be a good x factor drop-in. Or a good center replacement for AD.

Put him on the wing instead of Staines and even potentially Skelton. I’m a big fan of Skelton but I’m starting to worry. He had his fair share of injuries at the Dogs ans well and it hasn’t exactly been a smooth start here so having May would take a lot of pressure off.

Plus he’s played with Luai and Turuva so there’s also that connection.

I don’t think we would put fear into opposing teams with our backline.
Most opportunities come from To’a and Turuva
But with Seyfarth also on there side I’m sure he doesn’t help To’a by drawing defenders in.
And then on our opposite side we have Doueihi who lacks the speed of the mark to get through a hole even though he has a more dangerous 2nd rower (S.Fainu) drawing defenders of Doueihi.
Would like to see Sam Fainu and To’a on the same side which might create more opportunities,
Meaning Seyfarth & Doueihi together giving us nothing on the opposite side of the field.
Agree we need better depth in our middle’s but also a more damaging 2nd rower to help Doueihi if he is still one of our centre’s.
If only we had an accountant like the Broncos 🤷‍♂️

This is ridiculous honestly - and the ball I imagine is completely in our court.

He is a class centre we desperately need, he is risky - but if he's going to succeed anywhere it'd be with his brother.

It would be a horrible decision not to take that risk, because not only do you not get a quality centre you risk losing his brother who has been very clear on how much he wants to play with his brother.

Richo has done a lot right so I'm not laying the boot in at all, but this is stupid.

It’s not like he’d break the bank either. He’d be lucky to be on half of what he was at Penrith considering all the factors.

100% agree. Your backrower on the edge has two functions in attack. Run over the top of small halves or attract defenders so you create the overlap. Ours aren’t doing much of either this year.

To’a has been quite effective given early ball and picks his pass ok.

The best thing I can say about AD is he’s kicking goals at decent rate and his defense has improved.
