LIVE GAME Round 13 v Cowboys

Live Game Discussion
Luai Sin bin no warning given
Douhei sin bin was just a penalty
The try just before half time hurt, just letting drink water run by
Nanai takes our Mason on outside shoulder denies him a chance to cover tackle
Turuva taken out before given a chance for a fair catch, doesn’t matter if he was looking at the ball.
No sin bins for us

The NRL are happy that we come last, we still get crowds, clicks online and media.

Ashley Klein needs to be investigated for his corruption against us.

I hate the NRL, wish i could just walk away
100% agree.

If we had a full team for 80 minutes we win that game.

Thought Mason was outstanding. One I hope we don’t lose.

Dude ..I just went back and rewatched it … the refereee says to Luai … “thats’ three rucks ( penalties) in the same set of possession,,,that’s a MANDATORY sinbinning”… I mean ..you can argue that it’s harsh, but don’t say it’s not within the rules … Luai shouldn’t be giving the referee the option to begin with
It's not actually written anywhere in the rules that it is a mandatory sin binning. It is however part of the guidelines that are sent out to clubs about how the rules will be interpreted this year and has been the last couple years.

The Roosters are heavily penalised because they play such a physical style. Guys like Radley deserve all the punishment they get.
Agree and disagree. They do push the boundaries probably more than any other team and thus get plenty of justified penalties against them. It also means because of their reputation guys like Radley get some unjust penalties against them as well.

Just re-watched the Luai sin bin. He made a dominant tackle and laid on the player for 3.5 seconds… 3.5 seconds at one point this season represented the average amount of time the opposition laid on our players in a play the ball.. In this corrupt league, what’s average for our opponents is a sin bin for us. Go figure!
Benji should put together a list of 50 similar tackles from the weekend that didn’t get sin binned and send them to the refs boss. The refs read the papers all week and there is a bias there (probably subconscious) for sure.

Ok ….what about referees providing a warning before sending someone to the bin for repeated infringements? Is there any requirement for this to occur ?

Also, whilst I didn't hear it myself to confirm, commentators suggested that Luai was given a warning on the run after the previous infringement. Don't need to stop the game to give a warning, particularly in the 6 again era.

That wasn't a dominant tackle.

See above. But, there isn't actually any requirement for it though Lestronges description of it being like a social contract isn't to far off the mark.

Why? What does the NRL get out of keeping us down? I would suspect they want a club with a huge supporter base like ours being successful.
2 things can be true at once .. our team has a number of glaring weaknesses but the bunker also made some atrocious decisions.. turuva was taken out before the ball came down and also tackled without the ball.. this needs to be explained; I do not think it’s a conspiracy but Jesus we suffer from the same usual suspects making calls against us that are not normal

If you are relying on a convention than you are playing with fire … maybe just stop pushing the boundaries… conceding the try and Luai remaining on the field would have been a much better outcome for the team

This side is losing the first contact and wrestle battle.

That is causing quick play the balls for the opposition and mayhem around the ruck. We are trying to muck around in the ruck to combat it and its costing us.

This side is impressively bad at improving some of the basics that all football sides should be doing to guve them every chance. More line speed and intensity in first contact.

I'd go so far as to say that it, alone, has contributed to at least 2 or 3 of our losses this year.

In spite of the skinniness of this squad, the inexperience of the coach and the younger players and some of the execution of what still appears to be a very disjointed side, they have a couple of quick-fixes that are simply not being looked at/improved.

Just a shout out the morning after to Mason, would have been tough slotting in after the rat king was punted but imo I think it was his best game for us. Made his tackles, he missed a few but they all did, he provided a good foil for Luai. I was actually surprised how well he went, considering how long he hasn't had a run for us in firsts.

Very good points, we lack the physicality of other sides, mainly in the back row. Sukkar drove someone back last night and it was a shock because we never manage that.

We’re short on power.

Hunt started that crap. The amount of time he took to get off the player in the first 6 again showed a terrible disrespect for the referee. I have no doubt the referee felt, we will see who wins this one. Luai was borderline however someone was going to pay for Hunt's stupidity. It is obvious to me Hunt should not be in the starting 13. Maybe one of the forwards that we have not replaced should have started.

Couldn't agree more. It was stupid to so blatantly and repeatedly slow the ruck. I think all teams obviously use the tactic of doing it once early in the set to control the set (Storms mantra for years was control the first tackle you control the set). Then slow as required, as in when you have been beaten and lost shape. It is still cynical and I'd like to see more binnings as these negative tactics are now competition wide but the repeated actions of Luai last night was asking for trouble.

I was worried about his defense but he stopped Nanai cold a couple of times. Played good.
