There is no single statistic that's measured for "line speed" or "first contact" - so what?

All good, maybe just say that you think/guess that we are the worst team for line speed and first contact... we don't know that for certain, besides line speed will change all the time based on so many situations in a game.

Our centres get bashed up at first contact and that's where teams begin to build momentum playing against us, but our starting forwards are pretty solid. It's our misfiring attack and poor discipline that is making a lot of these things look worse lately.

BM: "We need to get our process and and performance right before you start thinking about the result"

That's such a frustratingly Wests Tigers statement. It's the kind of mealy mouthed thing Tim Sheens would say when being too smart by half. Like, eg 'We've lost 8 games so far this season but we only got 'Beat' in two"....

Only at our club can performance/process be distinct from the actual result. Like they are two different things. Maybe Benji knows better and we are trying to avoid short term thinking, but as @GNR4LIFE said earlier in the week, we are always a club that is building for the future and 'today' is never the day when its going to happen.

I just feel like those kind of macro comments are great on the training pitch or talking to the whole club, but when I hear statements like that I just feel its sending a mixed message to players on match day that performing and winning are two separate priorities in our coaches eyes. By making that distinction so explicit, it can be easily interpreted as our club not being as fussed about winning as we are about 'performing.' You can have that mindset as a coach without saying it in a press conference or telling the players. It's the wrong answer.

From the BTR pod today it sounds like Richo is getting right behind Benji saying the future signings have to be all in on his game philosophy so they are going to very selective by the sound of it.

They will end up having a lot of recruits signed who believe in Benji so to me this sounds like the club is all in on his coaching for the long haul.

That’s why everybody loves him coz he focuses on the process and not the result. Fair enough , he’s 1/2 right but eventually both things must come together.
We need a win and it’s going to be a monumental task at CSS v a hit you d Raiders outfit, probably without our marquee man.

I’m kinda getting the feeling he will be here next year now …regardless what happens on the field rest of this season

Personally I think he will be here next year
In the few games I’ve watched this year we are clearly better than last

Yeah ,the season isn't over , but avoid bottom 5 and certainly he holds his job , finish bottom 5 , well hard conversation should be had..

I just can't believe how true the above statement is.

We've been flogged in 2 games so far this season and in the others there is an argument to suggest that we may very well have beaten ourselves.

Even though we are ever increasingly a chance for another spoon we have shown signs of improvement in many areas and I didn't really want to say it but, we are really not all that far off.

What he says in the public domain doesn’t really matter imo
If he’s thinking about what to say after a loss to make the fans all warm and fuzzy he’s already conceded on his job
What matters is what he says in the review whether that’s a rocket for the bad and praise for the good etc. How the players take those conversations on board should be his priority

It will turn if we keep adding quality recruits, probably needs 3 more signings, having good cattle enhances the chances of the coach succeeding.

I think it's a modern-day trendy approach.

You see it in management everywhere, it tries to take the end goal distraction away and keep people adhered to a system.

There's a few problems though.

Firstly, the whole success hinges on the efficacy of the system itself. Who is Benji to have developed a fool-proof set of processes that, if adhered to, will put us competing for premierships? (and I like what's happening so far for the most part). How do we, or the players, know that his methods will, in fact, be successful if executed correctly?

Secondly though, despite what modern approach proponents love to spout, the ONLY thing that matters is outcome. The fact that the same, desired outcome can be reached using an infinite number of methods, whether its winning football games or investing in ETFs or building a garden shed, further indicates that its not in fact the processes that matter, but the outcome.

If a process leads to a successful outcome, then it's been shown to work.

As much as I appreciate what Benji tries to do with his messaging around learning processes, he could learn a thing or two from, paradoxically, the Roosters' set up. They have shown that if it gets them in the title hunt, regardless of the plan or process, they'll pivot and chase a new direction to win.
