3 2 1 vs Manly

Amazing post, my type of read.

I've always liked a lock who can play hooker in the likes of Lewis Brown, Elijah Taylor or Ray Stone. I don't think we've exactly got this type of player on the books, other than the lesser quality Charlie Murray.

Kurt Donoghoe or Max Plath @ the dolphins is the type of player id want.

Phoenix Crossland is another player who has the capability, under contract though.

This provides value to our team so if Benji wants to play Api for 80 then at least our bench hooker can serve another purpose.

Unlikely we'll land those guys so we have to keep searching. Maybe a Lachlan Ilias, Siliva Havili or similar floating around somewhere.
Hohepa Puru is an up and coming nuggety 13 who defends strongly, has a silky passing game and is a more than capable 9.
However our own Josese Lanyon could be bigger, faster and better.
As you mentioned Charlie Murray could be a possibility to play this role, possibly Luke Jack also.
Lachlan Illias the more high profile option.

He has a twin brother also who plays halfback.

I've actually seen a fair bit of these lads play.
It's quite a good suggestion, wouldn't of thought of it.

Probably be worth signing them both as that answers two problems.

- a well rounded #14 that can cover multiple roles including giving Api a rest if needed. [Hohepa Puru]
- A genuine back up half to cover for injuries and origin selections [Niwhai Puru

* both on contract at shark's for 2025 and 2026

3 - AD. Sparked us up once in the halves
2 - Turuva went ok
1 - May , only guy going forward in a small way.
☹️ - Pole had zero impact , started his runs from standing still and did nothing , need to run onto the ball as he was just simply tackled easily .

Puru only just moved from the Raiders to the Sharks. I'd love him, but can't see the Sharks giving up on him after a season.

There are plenty of options out there that can plug holes, fill roles and help make our team much more balanced as posters such as yourself regularly point out,
It’s not all doom and gloom, but we have to be strategic and cover all our bases, not just rely on internal promotion all of the time.
I know this is the 3,2,1 thread, I thought Doueihi clearly gets our 3 points from last night and I think Seyfarth done enough to get the 2 or 1.
May, Latu Fainu, Sione Fainu and Turuva all tried hard, Turuva a bit iffy in defence.
Pole was strong in his 2nd stint, very average in his 1st stint.
There is no doubt Heath Mason tried very hard and his defence was much better than last week, but he is currently lacking confidence with ball in hand, I’d be instructing him to run the ball and use his step as much as possible, he looks better when being a ball hog than he is when trying to create.
Luke Laulilli again demonstrated how powerful he is when running the ball, but like Mason is young and still has a regular error in his game, particularly under the high ball.
They are both a work in progress, but high effort players worth putting a lot of time and effort into and we will eventually reap the rewards.
As others have mentioned can we please develop Luke Laulilli as a centre as his defence will need a lot of fine tuning, but that’s what NSW Cup is for isn’t it ?
Mason is tough enough, let’s start giving him regular game time at 9, possibly even 13 in NSW Cup to see if he has what it takes to be that perfect 14 we are looking for.

The Sharks play Bailey for 80mins every week, Hohepa Puru unlikely to make the Sharks top 17 no matter how well he plays.
If Da Silva departs as expected Ted, we could be looking for a regular 14 who can play 9 to give Api a rest, but also have versatility to play other positions, to could be realistic number 14 option for us.

Yeah we lacked a lot of punch. Pole and May seemed to be really struggling to make any metres (It was a short 10m but still). Maybe they had an off night.

And KPP is not the player to help with this that both in attack and defence.

As people have been saying we desperately need some impact players, with some good old grunt.

Simi Sasagi was brilliant for the Raiders last night, they have 4 NRL quality edge forwards on their books, plus a very promising youngster in Noah Martin who makes 5.
They cannot afford to keep all of them and only 3 of them will be in their 17 when at full strength.
I would look at tempting Simi Sasagi with a good money offer, I’d guess he’s only on a very minimal contract at the moment.

Yeah someone like that. Its funny how we talk about our up and comers, when you compare it to other teams

Just being fair though- Sasagi is 24.

Guys like Sam Fainu are 21.

The young guys getting talked up in this club are 18-20.

Sasagi has had an extra few years to develop to ALMOST good enough.
