Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Not sure where the fascination with Ilias has come from all of a sudden. And as usual, it involves fantasy talk about moving him into a position he’s never played. How about we just recruit an established lock forward. There’s plenty out there.
There really isn't any off contract out there. Options are really a reserve grade lock who is really only reserve grade level of having someone learn a new position. I think it's fair to look for players that would suit the role. I just don't think Ilias is that guy.

I think Bulldogs are about 2 years ahead of us in their rebuild.

Biggest change for them has been culture and buy in.

Anyone that didn't buy in has left.

We are on the same journey, difference is we don't have the money that they do to expedite the process.

HBG needs to pull their finger out or sell the club to the highest bidder.
I remember it was debated back in 2022 when we were fighting the dogs for the spoon that we were actually ahead of the dogs in our rebuild due to having our pathways established. How quickly things shift and change. Within that space; Dogs had secured enough junior talent to make the finals in nearly everyone of their junior teams. Meanwhile our pathways players had fizzled.

Trey Mooney is the one I would get to partner up front and then you need to find a young aggressive backrower that can play decent minutes like Harrison Hasset. David Fifta would be amazing but at the right price and buy in to the what we need. Massive risk which could go either way.
I have also rated Joey Lussick but his brother Fred goes well also.

1 year would be fine , 2 years pushing it with Makasini coming through
Do it, that’s exactly why you would want him round for the 2nd year. It’s a no brainer for me, means your not playing him next season having him look around for a better or another deal if he maintains his form in the same season you’ve signed him to make an impact.

Mooney has been the best middle in cup for about 3 years. It's crazy that Raiders have been able to keep him happy there. With Papallii finishing up however I don't think it's likely he would leave Canberra now a spot is opening for him.

I don’t get the outrage over this.
Mase clearly pushed the ref in the back.
Big no no with precedent for punishment.
When it happened live plenty on here said he’d be in trouble.
Now I keep reading it’s a conspiracy?
Yeah I asked questions about this as well and others here pointed me to the fact that other players have been suspended for the same ‘crime’ this season, most notably Dylan Brown recently.

I think being suspended is a harsh penalty for what is more often than not an accident though. The bloody refs do get in the way sometimes and a player moving fast in the heat of the moment is going to do whatever he can to prevent a try being scored, he’s not really looking at anything other than the bloke with the ball. A fairer penalty, if there has to be one, would be a fine. They fine players all the time for much worse indiscretions, why not this one?

Yeah I’ve seen that now. What another load of Tigers penalty only BS. If that’s Cam smith he gets a fkn penalty, the try would’ve been disallowed and his wife would’ve received another diamond ring bcoz the ref got in his way.

Edit: I couldn’t hate the fkn NRL more even if they kick my dog.
You realise Dylan Brown also got suspended right?

I'd go Gagai for 2 years. Makasini is only 17 and gives him 2 years to learn from a former international/SOO rep centre.

Worst case Makasini leapfrogs him before the end of 27.

I see no downside particularly with the alleged $400k price tag. That's close to an average wage in NRL these days

Yeah agreed a fine would have been sufficient but what was he expected to do?

It’s like guys getting in trouble for a shoulder charge when they’re trying to prevent a try in the corner.

Your priority is getting to the ball to stop the opposition scoring.

NRL needs to have a bit of leeway.

Yep.
I was just hating on the NRL a bit, Mason should have patted him on the head to make it worthwhile.
Seriously though, sometimes it’s just an accident and soft but still gets a harsh penalty for it.
