Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Taylor was always a good assistant coach, his issue was always the people management a head coach needs at nrl level.

I think we should keep Benji but if he goes and Richo is still here then Peter's will be the first choice
Taylor is exactly the same as Barrett, great assistant coaches but terrible head coaches. No idea why they can't take the step up.

Once it happens Tom, if you start signing players on that basis and the broadcast deal is only increased by 15% your cap is ruined.

There is no way the increase will be that small ..

But my argument wasn’t really about signing players… it was about changing a mind set of player worth come 2028 ..Possibly even 2027 if the partners remain the same)

Anyway … I’m betting the Broadcast deal will be negotiated by the end of the season, so we will have certainty anyway before old mate Richo makes another signing…

My bad, thought you ment in terms of signing players ahead of the broadcast deal and upgrade on the cap as a result, to beat other clubs to it.
We have all this money to spend, though there's noone to spend it on or noine willing to come to the Tigers. No use having cash I'd we can't use I on what we need.

I honestly don't think Benji & the coaching are the problem.

It's important to remember we are a club only a season or two removed from Jackson Hastings, Brandon Wakefield etc being our halves.

We started from a very low base. Things are better. A few more tweaks & we will be better. Nearly all the players CAN be improved on, but nearly all the players are also good enough.

The moves the club makes in recruitment & retention are important. It's about getting the right mentality as much as the right skills.
I do think there is a coaching problem, but I get what you are saying.

We ran out without a full team. We were really REALLY down 2 forwards at the start of the year.

It was scramble signings to make a team.

Now, we need to identify players who will build our forward pack. Guys like Pole and Seyfarth have really stood up, yet I would rather see Seyfarth play off the bench.

We were doing the right thing with recruitment. Our culture is still seeing players drop in performance, but not as far.

We really need to bring people in from outside the Tigers culture. People who can up the attitude. I was really hoping that Nathan Cayless was that person and he did not have the impact I was expecting.

30th June has come and gone. Nothing fell out of the trees and a couple of trees got cut down. For about the 15th year in a row we are wiping the current season and focusing on the rebuild for next year, hoping it may bear fruit.

Every year I get frustrated at this time of the year as exactly the same thing happens as the years gone by for exactly the same reason. You can set your watch by it, the mid season grind starts to hit and we hit the wall with a massive crash. Our good players start to go backwards and our average players take the word plod to another level.

My love of the club will always be there but my interest has never been this tested. Sorry for the rant

Out of curiosity. Say we were playing just as poorly perceived in attack but we actually got over the line against the Warriors and Rabbitohs at home. Would put us on 18 points and within a ‘hope’ of challenging for the finals but we had still suffered the last 4 defeats.
Would you and anyone else for that matter feel better about our season?

You could probably add the Knights to that.

I don't think so to be fair,
In games we've won or even most of the close ones, we've been far from convincing for me.
Just come up against teams that are playing worse than us on that day.
There's been no structure or consistency in this season at all,
We seem to be hiding behind other factors for that.

There's been other teams that started ordinary or had big squad changes or a new coach
that have some real shape to their game mid season - we're the only ones going the other way.
We're the only team in the comp that doesn't beat Manly last weekend.

I agree, and this is something that Benji really needs to consider and find a solution for in the off season. It’s not always about whatever it takes to get a win. That works in the short term but we’ll end up running out of gas and being flogged by more skillful teams like what happened in 2018.
It’s about building into a season. And you do that by setting a style that you believe can beat the opposition more often than not; win lose or draw and keep working to it and the hard work in the loses will come off, chopping and changing within a season doesn’t help anyone; hell our LG situation hasn’t helped this season. Teams that are their when the whips are cracking start slow and conquer late building to their squad and game as the season goes on.

We could have also easily lost a couple we won also .The bottom line is we did not win those games. Every club has a couple of games that they look back on and say they should have won. If the comp was ten weeks long we could probably compete, but every year the same thing happens, the wheels fall off mid season. Obviously our roster plays a big part, but we lack that hard edge and resilience

Most of the league commentators from the media have said that Wests T have really improved this year and are good to watch. This forum seems full of Karen's and it's about time for them to bugger off and give our players/club a respite. To say nothing about the loyal supporters on here.

I just don't understand why almost every other week i read or see another club signing or adding players to their roster, but not us at the West Tigers.
there is no excuse why we don't do this either, our shining light Mr Rico and co, need to come out and explain whats going on as upgrading our so called talent is and has not been working for years.
As we have the money and spots to make this happen but from looking from the outside they don't seem to be on the same page.
And until we start to be active each and every year we WILL be and always in the bottom 4 teams.

Richo said something about us having 22 of 36 spots filled with NRL players. I can only guess he’s trying to rectify that for next year but has completely given up on this year which I was hoping would be the first year we don’t give up half way through the year.

'Really improving' to what degree? and what does it mean?
Considering those same folks you're talking about claimed no other club in the game
bought as well as we did for 2025.
We bought in some Rep Players and about 6 Premiership wins,
We also 'had' some of the better young players in the game with another year under them?

I don't see the sense in that argument - Of course we're going better,

It's like spending 500k on a Ferrari and then saying
- Well, It goes faster than my old Camry! Of course it does.

Seems a lot of people are allergic to reality,
Rest of the comp (Bar maybe a couple of top clubs) is also improving...
