Jahream Bula #269

Don’t agree black ban him. He will never guide a player to stay with us. He may let them develop here only to sell them off to a ‘strong club’. FACT.
So thinking otherwise is a mistake.
The power move to do is ban him like the rooters and raiders have. The more teams do this, the less power he has, simples.
The more clubs that do this the less likely some other clubs are to follow....more in the pot to choose from for them ie
Broncos
Storm
Dogs

Richo talks about this in the interview I posted
Yeah paraphrasing he said if he keeps playing like he did pre-injury, he's worth it.

Maybe the compromise with his **** of a manager is to offer another year (2028) at $900k on top. Then Moses gets his commission on that year.

If history is an indicator we will just release him if he tells us he doesn't wish to stay.
This will get people started, but if $900k or thereabouts is the price and if he doesn't lift his game several levels to justify that price tag then he and Isaac can piss off and we can go to market and look for a proper full back.

Yeah my thoughts are maybe Moses will push for a new contract as an extension instead of the option for 27. That would be with us prior to Nov1 or with anyone from afterwards.
Is it fact that the option was negotiated by a former player manager and he doesn’t get the commission?

we'll take up the option for 2027. with the cap scheduled to go up with the expansion clubs $900k will be fine. I think he'll be well worth it by that point anyway. the key is going to be the work we do between now and November 2026 to ensure Jahream remains a Tiger beyond 2027.
I do not see why we would not take the option which means the case closed?
I think Richo has stated that we will take the option up but then he has said other things at times that did not go the way he originally made out things to be.

Some are saying that $900k is fine but I don't think it is on his current trajectory, he just doesn't do the things that a top NRL full back should be doing and needs to lift his involvement in the game before he deserves that sort of money.

The one thing I see as advantageous in taking up the option is that it was in his original contract that was not signed with Isaac Moses so if what people are saying is correct then if we take up the option then Moses does not benefit by getting a commission out of the deal, but watch that scum bag try to get a new contract negotiated so that dollars flow into his pocket.

I will even go out on a limb and say that I think Bula on current form struggles to be included in the top 17 full backs in the NRL and I justify this by saying that there are clubs that have more than one option at fullback that deliver a better performance in the fullback position than Jaream does, he just really needs to lift his game and general involvement.

The fact is that when he debuted he looked great and promised so much but he has not developed, at least not in the the way I would have expected and I fail to see that especially now with Brett Hodgson as an assistant coach that this has not happened.

I know many will disagree with me but they are just my thoughts.

sorry mate but I think you're right. you will be in the minority for this one.

Jahream is special.

What NRL club would be wanting to replace their current fullback with Bula at 900k per season ?
No kicking game, very limited passing game, 900k no thanks.

We will find out very soon based on reports that Moses has started his salary hunting activity (despite it not being Nov).

Fullback with a kicking game. That is what we need.
When our halves don’t have a kicking game it would come in handy.
Reece Walsh, Kalyn Ponga, Latrelll Mitchell, you know the fullbacks who are match winners, funnily enough they all have competent kicking games.

I just don't think Bula's progression has happened as hoped.
Not worth $900k
Turuva showed much more enthusiasm and could easily replace him without missing a beat.
And not cost us $8-900k
what Turuva did well against the Roosters was take the kick return straight to the defence at pace, something that is a bit of an afterthought for Bula.
What he didn’t do well was his confidence under the high ball. Everyone bar Bula seems to struggle with this.
What we missed without Bula in the match is that athletic guy that follows the kick and gets into the contest forcing an error or sometimes comes out the other side with the ball. We have no one else in our side capable of that.

Plus many of the kicks were too deep so we couldn't get there to contest. This is where Sukkar/Seyfarth/Twal and Sam F need to stand up. KPP next year should be an excelelnt target. AD, as a centre, should be right up there - but he isn't.
