Jahream Bula #269

The best thing that could happen to Jahream over the next few weeks is for Turuva to have a few shockers. If Turuva performs really well then it will be very hard to justify giving Bula 900k. Not because Turuva would be our future fullback, but because you'd be getting a similar output for a player on half the money.

For 900k I'd rather us try and sign Koula from Manly. Younger than Bula, quicker than him, has better ball playing ability, and is currently stuck at centre behind Turbo and Hopoate. I believe he is also close with the Fainus. I remember when he completely tore us up at fullback one game.
That’s the point I’ve been trying to make.
Many take it the wrong way and think I’m bagging Jahream.
That’s not the case, it’s quite clear he’s a very solid NRL player, potentially much more than solid, but he ideally needs a few 9 or 10 out 10 performances each season to be value at 900k and I haven’t seen one so far this season. Some may disagree and believe he’s played up to 9 or 10 out of 10 games this season and if that’s your belief, that is fair enough, everyone sees things differently.

I agree. I think the idea of Jahream Bula is better than the reality. He's tall, he's very fast, he's great in the air and he's good in yardage. He has all the tools to be an elite fullback.

But he just doesn't put it all together enough. I just think Bula is a high floor/low ceiling type of player, which is fine if you are paying him 600k, but for 900k it's hard to justify

Is this your 2nd account @Vicious ?

Yes add another one to the list.
Believe it or not, there are a few others who see things similar to how I see them.
If you think Turuva is anywhere near as good as Bula at fullback , then sorry bro , you’ve got no idea . And I love Turuva. Live his energy love his talk , love everything about the guy . He will one day captain the club , probably just for a few games , but at the very least he will be a mainstay in the leadership group .
There is only 1 player in the club who can do what Bula does , and he’s playing on the wing for Jersey flegg at the moment . I think he might even be at fullback this week .
I think you’ve got rocks in your head …

I actually have not stated Turuva is as good as Bula at fullback, somebody else stated that.
However we don’t really know that answer after only one game of Turuva playing fullback with us.
What we do know is Turuva is supposedly on a contract of 450k which is a little bit high for a winger, but could be exceptional value if he proved to be a better than average NRL fullback.
Keep in mind Turuva was absolutely brilliant playing fullback in NSW Cup for the Panthers before he eventually got his chance for them on the wing at NRL level, so it’s really unknown how high his ceiling could potentially be as a fullback at NRL level.
Our current roster has a lot of players around the 400-500k salary range which means there is not a lot of room for too many highly paid marquee players.
Obviously the only player we currently have on a marquee player salary is Jerome Luai and whether or not he is living up to his price tag is a different argument, but if/when Jahream’s salary is increased to 900k he will be our 2nd highest paid player and with that comes a lot of responsibility to win us games, not just do your job very well.
We will re-sign him so let’s hope he lives up to being one of our marquee players and wins us plenty of games, no Wests Tigers fan will be disappointed if and when that happens.

Bula is not worth $ 900 k yet , still needs to improve a lot to get that amount .
Yes he has done some great things in attack and also cover defence ,last ditch efforts but he was also no where near a lot of players scoring tries as well , he was not close even on some occasions, he will learn to read play better as he goes , but $ 900 k not for me , he is probably at $ 700 , just my opinion only

Name please.

Bula is a MUCH better fullback than Turuva. Turuva can fill in very well but Bula has that playmaking skill that Turuva doesn't.
I don't think we know if Turuva has that skill or not, because he hasn't had the opportunity to showcase it.

Turuva reminds me a bit of Tedesco the way he accelerates off the spot and could be incredibly dangerous around the ruck, ability to find a gap and create something from nothing... Bula has pace but he isn't as quick off the mark .

They both have pros and cons
Turuva in his pre match presser was 100% behind Bula being the fullback and said he was "just renting" the jersey.. so I think that tells us what we need to know.
