Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

So what you would of kept Da Silva and let api go would you. Da Silva is massively over rated has nothing on api despite he's performance.
Modman

Look at this way is Api capable of playing 80 minutes in this current tigers side they way it is coached??

Short answer is no and Hope is not the answer either, and we can not afford to rush Haywood either.

In the meantime, we boned Madge despite him having a better success rate than Benji.

Hard to fathom.
Ah Benji's 2025 win rate is 37.5%.

Madge's win rate in 2019 was 35%, in 2021 33% and in his final half-season 2022 was 25%.

So Madge's "success rate" is only superior to Benji if you include Madge's first season (45.83%) and Benji's debut season (25%). But Benji 2025 currently had Madge covered in all years but the first one.

Don't need to spell it out, but I will: we boned Madge because his win rate kept dropping every year. Benji's is currently going up, in fact we already know he can't do worse than last year.

Not so hard to fathom.

The facts:

Benjis win rate is 30% ( from official), Madge finished up with us on 36% (Wikipedia).

We will have to see what Benji does this year to see if he goes up.

Instead of doing an appropriate apprenticeship, Benji was trained to coach by Tim who managed a lousy 17% win ratio during his last start here and was sacked on the quiet.

Benji didn’t face any competitive selection process, handed the job on a platter and at the moment is doing poorly with little respite in sight.

We cant win a premiership under Benji and are wasting time with him in the coaching role.

That’s what I and what I understand an increasing number of members and fans are thinking.

He’s not a bad person, he’s not the devil incarnate, he just can’t coach to save his life. It’s tragic that he thinks he can.

He was a superstar player, gifted, way ahead of the curve, worth the price of admission to watch him enchant the game, but that was within his powers.

Now he has to project his own excellence and for whatever reason, he’s tanked.

All good but let’s stay composed, there’s no actual danger of Benji winning a premiership here.

He’s yet to win one out every three games he coaches for!

He’s just keeps banging his head up against the wall in a determined effort to prove that the job is beyond him.

If he’s such an inspiring and talented coach, they’d be interest in his services elsewhere.

I was thinking if we are so devoted to the mate, to save us the daunting and embarrassing process of running a professional operation, we could send feelers out to Toddy.

He’s full matey qualified too.

And as a bonus….wins almost twice as many games as Benji.

It remains to be seen if pride allows him to come here and play second fiddle … but sure if that’s case …he would probably be better off taking a year off and waiting for a new HC gig

You better send Richo another email detailing these “facts” …Because he is the only person that can make a change

Yes.

His record suggests there’s a coach in him somewhere.

Hannay is tipped to take over.

They should give young Kev a go I think. I thought he got speared a tad too early, they are very hard at Brisbane. One bad season is all it takes.

There was some truth in Seibs initial complaints, although he changed his tune later on. Turned his mind to the politics at Manly, won the day.

He’s made his bed. Richos way out is to blame intervening circumstances. He can say “ I was right, but x and y occurred and Benjis campaign was ruined.” Etc

But as they are close friends and he has Benjis back. Richo is hard to turn.

His health is a worry. I bet he’s living with some pain and he can’t zonk out on meds or he’ll miss stuff.

Stress and pressure, 7 kids, he doesn't seem to let it get to him!

Benji along with every other coach we have had in recent times has struggled for wins. They all have one thing in common and that’s way to many non NRL standard players at their disposal along with a football department ran on a shoe string budget compared to most clubs.

Okay Benji did have an influx of recruitments this year, but we need at least another two elite signings to start making a charge up the ladder. Without some more quality recruitment no coach is going to get this club moving up.

Ponga allegedly has engaged an NZ rugby agency to explore options despite still being contracted to the Knights for a further 2 years. One reason given is that he doesn't want to waste his best years at a club which may not win a premiership. Do you believe the two expansion teams looking for a big name signing will allow this to occur?
