Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Wasn’t the team already last when he got flicked in his last year ? They only won 4 games ( 2022) so he must have been canned very early otherwise…

His first three full years were 9th, 11, 13th…

And people wonder why he got canned … what coach in any sport is surviving that run ?
Nah, they were 13th and in the final year of the Reynolds/Mbye/Packer hangover with Api on the way.

I’d love to be finishing 9th, 11th, or 13th in any of the last 4 years.

Mate ..are you sure ? They won 4 games the whole year … it was the worst year they had …when were they coming 13th ? Round 8? Must have won the 4 games pretty early .. I thought they kept him a round a bit longer than they obviously did ..haha

I interviewed the late, great, Terry Wand about ten years back who was instrumental in steering the Wyong Roos to the powerful position they hold today. The Roos committee purchased an old house out at Kanwal back when there was nothing out there but cows. He explained to me (but I’ve forgotten the exact detail) how they couldn’t get a Leagues Club license, but were able to get a Rugby League Club licence.

I do know that Wests Ashfield farms a lot of financial support out to a number of sporting organisations and social groups in the western suburbs of Sydney (beyond their support of rugby league). So I wonder whether the constitutional objectives come into play. Whether a Leagues Club has a broader community concern than does a Rugby League Club (like Wyong) ?
I posted this in the Chammas Article thread the other day in response to BZN.

HBG is a not for profit. From the constitution:

The income and property of the Club howsoever derived shall be applied solely towards the promotion of the objectives of the Club as set forth in this Constitution and no portion thereof shall be paid or transferred directly or indirectly by way of dividend, bonus or otherwise by way of profit to the members of the Club.

The objectives are many but in short:
  • To provide for members and members' guests a social and sporting Club with all the usual facilities of a Club including: residential and other accommodation, liquid and other refreshment libraries and provision for sporting, musical and educational activities and other social amenities.
  • To assist generally in the promotion conduct and propagation of Rugby League football in the Rugby League Football District of the Western Suburbs of Sydney, or elsewhere, and to provide or assist in the provision of training and conditioning and teaching facilities for football played in accordance with the rules of the New South Wales Rugby Football League.
In my book they are investing much more into the first objective than the second - if I have it right (aand I may be incorrect) they are trying to make Wests Tigers profitable - that is not an objective in the constitution.

Yeah pretty sure it was done in a bye week of about round 12. I think we’d won 3. I remember it vividly because afterwards we won 1 from 12.

Mmmm, I couldn’t believe that Sheens put Kimmorley in as caretaker coach back then. It was at that moment I knew Sheens had no idea anymore.

I used to call them the Zombie team during that period …they were the living dead …Sheensy pretended he didn’t know them ..

Another week, no news of any potential signings for us in 2026.
We must be satisfied with what we already have ?
We seem to be leaving if quite late to fill all of our currently open top 30 roster positions.
What club is signing players 2 weeks after June 30?

Why this anxiety to have signings news every week? Relax mate.

3 x players currently at the Bears who could add depth cover, possibly better.
Riley Meyn - A try scoring edge back rower with enough size and speed to regularly break tackles.
Jayden Yates - A bigger bodied, tough tackling number 9 who has good service out of dummy half and has a capable running game when used at 13.
Phillip Makatoa - a big, hard running prop who has mostly been used as an impact player, but is recently starting games.
Unfortunately Vicious the club won’t go for these type of players , they prefer the smaller weaker pack

I still don’t know why Kimmorley was put in as NRLW coach. Why was Adel Hage let go when he won a premiership with one of the girl teams?
When we sacked Madge without a ready replacement, that was enough for me.

He should have seen the year out so at least we could prepare properly.

If he had to go, we should have had a successor all lined up. Instead it was a mess.

We need first graders

Surely we have a track record of coaching up fringe players and making them into NRL players ?
More like coaching down nrl players and making them good reliable fringies.

Fortunately a couple manage to defy the trend, naturally WT coach resistant. Inherited probably.

That said, we don’t see too many of our recent rejects doing much elsewhere.

And there’s not a lot of support for Galvin turning into a future immortal as Gus promised.

Perhaps a Koe immortal.

A common misconception is Madge got us to last.

It’s correct that we were going backwards but we didn’t spiral from 13th to last until Sheens threw Kimmorley under the bus.

This place makes everyone worse, coaches included.
Sheens could have quite easily given the job to Webster until the end of the season even though he was leaving at the end of the season to go to the 'Riff.

Webster only got to coach the one infamous game against the Cowboys where we were shamelessly rorted by Butler and Klown after full time.

I believe that Sheens knew that Webster could coach and was well liked by the playing squad so he threw Noddy under the bus because he feared Webster would have some success which could make his and Benji's efforts the following season look bad.

History tells us that it was really bad, the actions of Sheens got us to last.

Apparently there are coaches in the Super League that want a start. You make some very good points and I would love nothing more to see Benji do well. The problem is we don't seem to be improving much at all some say were going backwards and that's a concern. I just don't know how much longer he will persist. Watching him on the sidelines ride every play shows the pressure he's feeling. I just don't think he cam afford another spoon the media alone will make things pretty difficult. Remember most people were saying we would make the 8 and were very confident abt it.
Fk something needs to change.
Yes.

He looks like he’s having a few emotional problems with it all.

But we dragged sheensy in for his second coming. We have to accept some blame.

Pretty sure that was Gardiner - Webster was elevated to a game or two when. Cleary left
