Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

You over Bird playing in the centers now?
Yes.

But that wasn't quite the point I was making regarding Bird last off-season.

I was saying Bird is a 5/8 or centre, not a second rower/lock. Nothing I've seen this year disproves that thought.

I'd still rather Bird had been signed to play as a utility back than back rower.

To my point- we are where we are currently in outside backs. To improve on that next season, I don't see too many viable upgrades available better than Makasini & Taylan May.

Watching Tyrell Sloan last night did nothing to change my mind he isn't worth the risk of signing him. His speed would be a help.

Interested to watch Fifita today. He is probably the most impactful player that is potentially available for next season. If we are looking to actually UPGRADE the squad, the player added needs to be better than what we have after all.

Also will watch the result (hopefully at least the highlights too) of the Warriors KOE team. Freddie Lussick named at Prop this week. Plays first receiver from that position, and has had a great season. I think he could be a low risk option at #13 or at worst #14 for us- who covers every forward position it turns out, including #9.

Warriors playing Knights- should keep an eye on Mason Teague & Jack Hetherington too.

I thought Bird did a job off the bench coming on and playing in the forwards earlier in the year … he looks out of gas now unfortunately… hopefully he can find something again because it looks like he will be picked most weeks through the end of year

I think numbers mean he has to be picked at this point. He had a few games early where his efforts were pretty good. But he literally could have made the same efforts from centre. He's not big enough to be impactful in the forwards in attack unfortunately, and while he is ok with straight line speed, his lateral movement is questionable. So he's never really hitting top speed among the big guys & not agile enough to make guys miss.

People said the injuries caught up with him & I have to agree- he's definitely a shadow of the player he was.

That said, I think he's been a positive in attitude most weeks on the field. I think that element gets overlooked. He was a big part of that competitive edge we played with early.

Corey Harawira-Naera will attempt an NRL comeback next season.

The former Raider’s career came to a crashing halt after an on-field seizure in 2023. He’s already met with several clubs with one offering a train and trial deal.

👀?
T&T Contract? Maybe.

I'd rather look at Raymond Faitala-Mariner if we want a guy looking at one last shot at playing in the big time. Again, low Top 30 contract at best.

I have heard rumours but most of them we missed out on. I think we are in the market but being careful not to over spend. Looking for value over splash. Which is good and correct.

If you look at the players currently off contract there are plenty of good experienced depth types still on the market to finish off our roster and the longer they are on the market the better the price you can get for them. We don't need to be in a hurry to extend an offer to the Fletcher Baker's and Corey Jensen's when players of that calibre are a dime a dozen and also what we actually need ironically. It's a unique situation thats fans are not generally well equipped for hahaha.
Any names that we tried and missed out on , would love to know to see what spots they are trying to strengthen

Correct , Bird was centre and 5/8 at best , but has proven he will play where ever required and still have ago , he has been good but moved all over the shop , If Latu got hurt I would run bird and Luai no issue

Yeah and I love you too ❤️
Now let’s put my post into its proper context 👇
If you're going to defend yourself then reposting a comment that was plain wrong doesn't help.
Balmain were in no danger of being dumped if they chose to stand alone.
Wests had no choice but to merge or die (in first grade).
How long Balmain would have lasted without a major cash injection is another story.

You’re both in the wrong thread and most of us are over it. Have a bit of courtesy and find an appropriate thread for this crap

Fox can't give it a break. Bula at the dogs game last night . Apparently we should be worried. Combined with 3 players having lunch. Just talk about the bloody game on the field. It's unbelievable!
We win a few it all stops, the media are absolute pind scum, but we are the only ones who can end this rubbish.

First of all can people who like to whinge at each other use the private message function. Jebus. Secondly can we create a thread for general rubbish chat and save this for its title.

Like many I love conversing but I hate weeding through all the rubbish to find it.

Or can we get that ai summary feature thing

I agree. I get this thread can go a bit off course, but it’s ridiculous how far off course it does go these days.

Not many signings for any clubs at this time of year, always a quiet time leading into the semis, it'll heat up when the season has ended and before November 1.
