Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

James Schiller is leading the NRL for line breaks and he’s currently in NSW Cup.
Clayton Fualalo has made more than 1 line break per game while playing NRL this season and he’s also currently in NSW Cup.
On a positive note Taylan May made 8 tackle breaks against the Titans and based on that he leads the NRL for average tackle breaks per game,
Schiller is a winger and so is Fualalo. Also you pick and choose your averages when Fualalo has played less that half the games and has zero try assists. You conveniently forgot that in your averages.

What the hell are you talking about? Why didn't you just compare To'a and I Katoa while you were at it?

Jeez you have some weird takes on the game.

The Dragons have confirmed the signings of twin 16-year-olds Alexander and Cornelius Pupualii in a major retention blow for the Penrith Panthers. The Pupualii twins are Panthers juniors, and highly-rated prospects.

Cornelius is a 193cm-tall centre weighing in at 100kg, who the Dragons view as a long-term member of their back-line. Alexander is a 119kg second-rower, who has unfortunately missed all junior footy this season due to an ACL injury.

These are the type of signings we should be making, not has-beens and also rans.

We need big strong forwards before anything else. The lists below are form Zero Tackle. They are players off contract at the end of 2025.

I don't know who the better players are but the point is, maybe we could jag a couple of these guys who could go to another level or already have what ot takes.

Props
Bunty Afoa, Tom Ale, Iszac Fa'asuamaleaui, Viliami Fifita, Wiremu Greig, Siliva Havili, Jack Hetherington, Jaiyden Hunt, Corey Jensen, Josh Kerr, David Klemmer, Ben Liyou, Jordan Martin, Jordan McLean, Shaquai Mitchell, Davvy Moale, Mark Nicholls, Josh Papalii, Toafofoa Sipley, Daniel Suluka-Fifita, Siosiua Taukeiaho, Lazarus Vaalepu, Michael Waqaaui

Second-row
Jacob Alick-Wiencke, Fletcher Baker, Kenneath Bromwich, Ethan Bullemor, Billy Burns, Raymond Faitala-Mariner, Thomas Fletcher, Ryan Foran, Mavrik Geyer, Jack Gosiewski, Harrison Hassett, Jacob Host, Felise Kaufusi, Ativalu Lisati, Ben Lovett, Dean Matterson, Preston Riki, Jamal Shibasaki, Brandon Tumeth

The highlighter guy is from the dogs. He may be available because they bought someone from Newcastle
Slim pickings. Bullemore & Sipley both have upside.

Yeah that's the point, it may seem like slim pickings but they're would have to be a number of these guys who could do a very good job. That bulldogs could be one of them, he seemed to go alright
I think he’s failed at a couple of strong clubs. Probably look elsewhere myself.

People are suggesting Ellis. Probably true. Maybe Daine Laurie to a degree. (The forward, not the guy currently at the Panthers)

Thing is- naming Ellis is missing the point. Who cares when the LAST one actually was? When is our NEXT one?

As a club, the Tigers do not bully anyone, they rarely dominate in tackles, there's nobody that makes the guy running the ball up take a look to try to avoid a tackle...when we need a momentum shift, the club lacks someone to instigate it.

We have a number of pretty good quality forwards.

We have no forward enforcer. We rarely, if ever, win at the ruck.
Skelton is making a few players start to look. Has crunched a few blokes this season

So another 5 year re-build? Then bring the kids through, debut them in first grade and watch them sign for the Roosters?

I'd prefer we continue with this re-build and maybe get some sort of success out of it (such as finals) within the next two seasons which may help us attract and retain quality players.

Another example of poor journalism,

Taylan scored 1 try in the Top grade and 3 in KOE the week before.

No proof reading of the stories

May made a stunning return to the NRL at the weekend, scoring three tries in his first appearance in the top grade for the Tigers. The Tigers will take it slow with May as he continues his recovery from the off-field issues that threatened his career but the early signs are promising and club officials want to make sure they have the space in the salary cap to accommodate May should he maintain his form
Yeah i saw that - and it took 3 supposed NRL savvy journalists to come up with that garbage

How Wests Tigers reignited a childhood combo by unleashing brothers Terrell and Taylan May

He’s one of the NRL’s premier props, but upon reuniting with brother Taylan, Terrell May showed glimpses of a position he once dominated in his youth – halfback. It could be the childhood combo that the Tigers need.

It is the halfback-centre combination the Wests Tigers didn’t know they had, but may just be one that’s needed.
Playing with his younger brother Taylan for the first time in the NRL, Terrell, one of the game’s premier props, showed glimpses of a different position he once dominated.

Halfback.

Yes, the 108kg front-rower, recalled how he used to don the No.7 jersey alongside Taylan for the Minchinbury Jets in the under-15s C-grade competition.

And last weekend, they were kids again.

“I used to play halfback when I was younger,” Terrell said.

“Growing up, my dad would play me everywhere.”

He claims his off-the-cuff playing style and spontaneous movement is perfect for his controversial sibling, who has an innate understanding of what unfolds when Terrell has the ball.

“We know each other’s games so well,” Terrell said of his brother, whose nickname is ‘Tiny’ because he was the smallest of the three brothers, including Tyrone.

“He just knows every time I touch the ball I’m kind of like random, no one knows what I’m going to do. Step back, pass it … it’s like he actually knows what I’m doing in my head.”

The May brothers combined multiple times during Taylan’s comeback against Gold Coast, with Terrell throwing the pass which landed Taylan’s first try in 14 months.

Months after his surprise exit from the Sydney Roosters, Terrell admits he could sometimes be a challenging teammate to play alongside.

“I feel like I’m a very hard player to play with for the boys,” Terrell said.

“I feel like they don’t know what I’m doing.

“I don’t even know what I’m doing. I just play off instinct, and Tiny (Taylan) knows how I play and obviously we have that connection from being brothers.”

Taylan’s return to first grade came after a one year absence due to charges of domestic violence, which were withdrawn earlier this year.

He later checked himself into a mental health facility to deal with some personal demons.

And while the brothers know most people won’t forget the allegations made against the former Penrith star, they remain focused on proving peoples’ opinions wrong.

“He has already had to prove a lot of people wrong, and there are still a lot of people doubting him,” Terrell said.

“Obviously there is going to be a lot of people hating on him.

“But people just assume and no one knows what really happened.”

Terrell admits he was unsure whether Taylan was ready for an NRL comeback last week, feeling he may have been a bit underdone heading into his clash against the Titans.

Before his 80-minute performance that included a try, two try assists, 147 running metres and eight tackle breaks, Taylan had only played just 120 minutes of football in over a year.

“I was thinking, ‘To be honest, he’s not ready’,” Terrell said.

“He played half of one game and one full game, only three weeks of training, but when we went out there he quickly showed how ready he was.”

When allegations against Taylan were dropped, the 23-year-old was instantly linked with the Tigers, where Terrell has quickly become a leader under coach Benji Marshall.

But Terrell claims there was no discussion about playing together in Concord.

Now both have begun talks on a contract extension to remain at the club.

“For me personally I do (want to be a Tiger for the rest of my career), but I don’t know Tiny’s situation,” Terrell said.

“Honestly, me and Tiny don’t speak about footy at all, even yesterday we were together for a couple of hours and we did not talk about the game once.

“Footy is our job. And when we’re not in our job, it’s all about life.”

The pair have even taken that approach into their new podcast Mayday, with Taylan filming his first episode this week.

Former Roosters star Joseph Manu, and Tigers teammate Sunia Turuva are set to feature in upcoming episodes, which showcase life off the football field.

Even with the lack of rugby league talk, both brothers are solely focused on finishing the year with the Tigers strong, with the team still yet to reach its peak.

With six games left and a bye, both Terrell and Taylan haven’t given up hope of the finals.

“Without him (Taylan) we probably don’t win on the weekend,” Terrell said.

“It’s not up to individuals, when we play as a team we can beat any team in the comp.

“We haven’t hit our peak because we have had combos changing every week, now we need to be good every week to make this top eight.”
Just another reason why if we can get a couple of hard nosed props, Terrell could easily slot in at 13.

He and KPP are too similar.
Both good young players with good size, but neither have that explosive speed or footwork we are lacking.
It will be a mistake to have them both playing edge back row at the same time for the full 80 minutes each week. We need more speed on our edges as we are currently a very slow team across the park and it is limiting our ability to make line breaks and score long range tries.
Not Samuela’s fault, just a problem within the balance of the team we keep trotting out.
Same scenario in our centres. The emergence of Taylan May and Makasini is fantastic, but we have To’a on the right who doesn’t have elite speed and cannot tackle.
If we are serious about being a top quality team we let Taylan May, Makasini and Skelton fight it out for our two outside back positions in the left and we find a quality right centre with genuine speed to play inside of Turuva and have Luke Laulilli challenging for a starting spot on the right.
Right centre I'd be giving Dane Gagai 12 months with a club option of a 2nd. Still got good footy left in him, has plenty of experience and is a better player than To'a

I’m generally against signing ageing players, but Dane Gagai’s will to win is phenomenal, all our players could learn a lot off a legend like him.
In saying that I’d say the Knights will give him one more year so he can finish up with them.
Same with Papali’i at the Raiders.

And the combination with KPP already exsists.

Big boys for 16

But his combination with KPP has not worked,
And we seem to now have the backs, now we still need to strengthen our forwards.
I’m seeing plenty of comments suggesting we now have a strong 1-5 at full strength and it doesn’t really need improving.
Assuming our 1-5 when all players are fit and healthy is;
1. Bula
2.Turuva
3.To’a
4. May
5. Skelton

And we would then have our youngsters in Makasini and Laulilli as back up.
While I do agree it’s much stronger than what we have have had over the past few years, I still don’t think it’s stronger than any rival NRL club.
For those who disagree, what rival NRL team is that 1-5 stronger than when they are also at full strength?

We get it… we get it ..

You aren’t happy with anyone … back 5 , halves , edges and middles … and Api…

Unfortunately I don’t think the whole team is getting upgraded !

He isn't a top 8 centre sorry. Way to inconsistent. Defence lapses from time to time. Rather have May and Marakisini in the centres next year.
Don't be sorry everyone's opinions vary and are respected.

Think that arm injury might have a part in his form drop but if Makasini steps up and is better than him like we all hope he will be well full steam ahead the guy looks a weapon.
