Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Jock would be great pending what happens with Bud Sullivan. We signed Bud for 550 I think I remember?

Him and Royce are the two remaining deals that are proper wastes of money.
If we could convince South’s to pay Bud 350, and we pay Jock 350, we are effectively “even” on the Jock salary. Would mean we’re paying 550 all up for that back up half. Probably would rather Jock in that scenario to Bud purely as he will have signed here knowing the scenario/would be more committed etc.

Or we could just keep Bud who has actually played first grade this year … rumour has it that Souths are only contributing $150k this season for Bud so your number looks high

Herbie's a superstar. I love Crighton as well, but Herbie's form this season is astonishing.
When we talk about X Factor, Herbie is #1 for me in the game this season. There can be almost nothing on and he can just run straight through the defensive line and score. It's not even his opposite centre he's beating either. He can run straight through edge forwards which is crazy impressive.

best centre in the game IMO

Jock is pretty limited and is similar to other avg. halves like cogger. In saying that he’d be better than falls as our cup 7. If sully one leg decides to stay with uncle Wayne I could see the desire to bring madden back.

It’s the same every year, so he’s either soft or very injury prone.
If as some comments suggest he’s badly injured and Benji keeps playing him anyway, how ridiculous when we have Luke Laulilli or Brent Naden playing NSW Cup.
Benji might see them as a bigger liability than playing an injured Starford To'a, who knows how and why Benji makes some of the selection decisions that he makes.

His use of the bench and some of the bench selections are particularly puzzling at times.

I have no doubt Latu Fainu is ready to be an elite NRL 13, probably not for 80mins each week just yet, but if we are looking to get a quality 40-50mins out of him each week as a 13, I’m very confident he can deliver.
The issue for me is if Latu himself wants an opportunity in the halves as if this is the case it could cause him to be dissatisfied which we don’t want.

You might be getting your wish …

So Latu to 13 and Jock Madden to 7 next year ?

I actually said we should make a play for Jock Madden as backup half a few weeks ago, experience, game management & goal kicking.

JOCK’S EYE OF THE TIGER

Jock Madden is on the verge of quitting the Broncos with three clubs, including Wests Tigers, eyeing off the Brisbane playmaker.

Sport Confidential can reveal Madden is considering a return to the Tigers club with whom he made his NRL debut in 2021 before his move to the Broncos two years ago.

Madden is contracted to the Broncos until the end of 2026 but is resigned to leaving Brisbane after the club recently extended skipper Adam Reynolds for a further 12 months.

The 25-year-old was being groomed to succeed Reynolds and had played 15 games for the club over the past two years when the Broncos skipper was unavailable through injury.

But under new coach Michael Maguire, Madden has yet to play NRL this season and appears to have fallen well down the pecking order behind Reynolds, Ezra Mam, Ben Hunt, Billy Walters and teenager Coby Black.

Hull FC coach John Cartwright is keen on Madden given his ties to the playmaker as a former assistant coach at the Broncos to Kevin Walters.

But Hull FC face competition from Australia with the Tigers and a second NRL club having contacted his management to inquire about the possibility of Madden leaving the Broncos at season’s end.

The Broncos are battling a salary-cap crunch and would save around $350,000 by releasing Madden, who played 17 games for the Tigers, from the final season of his deal.
Only makes sense if we can move on Sullivan without taking too much of a hit to the cap

Yeah no doubt. The numbers I listed I guess is what I thought would make Jock worth it per se. If we can’t get South’s to pay 350, Bud seems a better option than Jock.

Just a bit tricky as having players that don’t want to be here isn’t a great outcome…

Fair enough …

I’d actually prefer Bud to be honest, although not really a great option either way..

Perhaps my memory is wrong,… actually thought Madden might have gave the club a bit of a bagging the first time he left… not that he was wrong mind you, but ….

Any aggressive forwards on the list Richo , or you exclusively looking at reserve grade halves ? Are we gunna sign this pie eater for $350k, and pay Souths the same to take Bud off out hands ?
Not Madden are you serious. Agree why we looking at Madden then paying most of the freight for Bud

It’s hard to work out why Jock would consider returning to Wests Tigers as our depth halve, rather than take up an offer as a regular starting halve in the UK Super League ?
We surely have to try and get the same deals on the table for Bud Sullivan, Royce Hunt and Jack Bird.
You would think on reputation alone, there could be a UK Super League clubs willing to buy out the full contract values of Hunt and Bird.
Bud probably wouldn’t get an offer of even close to the rumoured 700k we are paying, but you would assume one of the UK Super League clubs might offer up around 350k which would be much better for us than the 150k which is seemingly all that the Rabbitohs are willing to pay.
It’s still mind blowing to think we offered Bud a 700k per season contract for 4 years while he was playing NSW Cup at the Dragons, surely it can’t be true that we are paying him that much ?
