Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

He kicked the winning goal in golden point vs Sharks, kicked the winning field goal against Titans and was best on ground yesterday.

He's been our best player for the last 6 weeks and I think some are blinded by their hate.

He deserves to get the best deal he can. Just like Luai did.
Adam deserves a better deal than that on offer allegedly.

An established first grade that is in our top 17.

I'd say there is a nonzero chance Samuela becomes a middle in the Tino mold and takes the 13 jersey. But only if someone like Roberts jumps out of the ground and demands selection.

It’s a non zero chance …I’d say about 3 percent….

Roberts hasn’t played a first grade game yet …fingers crossed he turns into something..anything ….

it means we effed you. the finger indicates an appendage....he was doing it after one of the tries. The sign is a pass...just, but he didn't need to say anything after...it's like he had beef with some at the Bulldogs...anyway...glad they used whatever it was constructively for 80 mins.
No not quite. Who told you that?

Chance, Mac. For sure.

Depends on the lock role we're looking at. I don't think a 3rd prop is what Benji is wanting fulltime. He's moved somewhat away from the Pole or Twal at lock-type selections.

Roberts had some raps on him a couple of years ago, looks like his trajectory faltered.
it's more that there's a logjam at the Chooks for backrowers. Crichton, Radley, Wong, Egan and Nat, Foketi and McCathie are all ahead of him.

this is a little like us signing Blore in 2020.

Richo knows how to manage a cap and roster. You don’t want 20plus guys on bigger money. Top heavy is the move filled out with players with potential and cheaper(good deals) ones. There is room for another key gun signing no doubt!
there's a stack of money in the cap ready to go. they've barely dipped into the mill they had set aside for Galvin and obviously TDS has left, but guys like Feledy and Tumeth were on much more money than people probably think.

it's just a matter of finding the right player.

Egan Butcher is the one I really would like to get. Foketi as well, but he’s way too good to be let go by them.
The Butcher brothers are rare Roosters juniors, they won’t let them go.
Foketi looks to be a very promising young edge back rower, but the Roosters know that and also won’t be letting him go anytime soon.
With the recent signings of Mavrik Geyer and Ethan Roberts, we now have too many edge back rowers in our top 30 when you add them to Samuela Fainu, KPP, Tony Sukkar and Solomone Saukuru.
I would have thought we would have been much better off signing someone like Siosifa Takakai to add his hard running and aggression as our regular number 15, but also able to add pressure and play as a starting back rower, lock or centre when required.

More that Foketi and Wong are rated ahead of him, and around the same age. And they're the Roosters, they recruit extremely well in pathways and will have more edge forwards coming through their premiership-winning SG Ball and competitive Matts teams over the next few years. He's better than anything Wests Tigers have coming through right now. Broederlow hasn't kicked on and is now playing as a middle in Jersey Flegg. Saukuru is new to the edge and hasn't been tested v men like Roberts has. Likewise Godinet has only just started playing Flegg.

The kid is tall, and has come through a good development system. Likewise Geyer. Great depth and height to have in a position where the club has very little of both.

Now time to turn to the middles. The young reserve grade middles the past weekend that were pasted by Canberra were:
Kit Laulilii 180cm
Peter Taateo 183cm
Charlie Murray 183cm
Vaka Aho 185cm
Jaxson Rahme 183cm

Just too many nuggets there. Lack of leverage in the tackle hurts. These are the next guys up. If you don't have the height, you need leg speed like Spencer Lenu or Moses Leotta. Kit Laulilii has that but he doesn't seem to have an engine.

Compare that to Raiders:
Trey Mooney 188cm
Pasami Saulo 190cm
Vena Patuki Case 194cm
Mitch Priest 183cm
Jordan Martin 187cm

Trey Mooney is free to negotiate, but I think the Hunt and Bird deals are going to affect the bids Richo and Gallant can make.
Hunt is a huge albatross around our neck for two more years.

Jack Cogger is closing in on a return to Penrith, potentially exiting Newcastle a year early to rejoin the Panthers and spark a three-club shuffle.

▪️ Brad Schneider looks set to join the Dolphins, opening the door for Cogger to head back to Penrith
▪️ Sean O’Sullivan could head to Canterbury to mentor Galvin & Woods

That contract is gonna be hard to get rid of.

I'm ok with it on the basis that we have had multiple contracts in the squad like him in the past and we currently only have him draining our cap.

In saying that, an extra 600k to replace him would be nice.
