Funnily enough, this was suggested in an email I received today, looking at how to engage boys and young men in reading. As a teacher/librarian, I'm open to any suggestions you might have. My young men (36, 25) are both avid readers, yey hubby and grandson are not.For any blokes on here that like a beer, a good laugh and a serious chat about life issues, check out Tough Guys Book Club. Oh and there are books involved. Meet once a month - about a dozen different chapters in Sydney and a few scattered around NSW.
i joined the Port macquarie chapter 2 years ago and there were only 2 of us back then - now have around 14 in the group - there is a book allocated each month but there is no pressure to read it - all chapters meet the first wednesday of each month to discuss the book and anything else that might come up. Only 2 rules - no work talk - any talk about work is banned and funnily enough it opens up new horizons when you have to talk about other stuff. 2nd rule is no dickheads. Each month there is a challenge to encourage guys to get out in the community and also to improve their health - mental and physical. i know there is a chapter in Dubbo - not sure if thats where you are or not.
