Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Mooney has been linked to the Knights. They are loosing two key forwards so it makes sense. Also lifestyle adjustment from Canberra to Newcastle is an easy change to make. Although I would be looking at a club with a brighter short term future than the Knights if I was Mooney
Knights seems like a likely destination with all their losses.

Yeah I rate him and would love to see him come across to Tigers. I feel like Richo has done a good job identifying the types of players needed to strengthen our overall roster.

The latest signings of Madden, Andrews, Geyer and hopefully Roberts have been the right target areas in my opinion.

I have faith and back Richo and Benji to make the right calls here...whether that be with Mooney or if there are other players and plans going on in the background.
Optimistically yes. These guys are good signings. If they don't play well for us, everyone will be screaming. We still need to add a walk up start player to our team. Hopefully over the off season something comes up.

The argument is:
- While Doueihi had a career game last week he has a track record going back to his time at Souths of being a mediocre half most of the time. The likelihood that the 'real' Adam Doueihi is what we saw last week versus the rest of his career in the halves is pretty tiny.
- While it's great to win games the reality is we're a vanishingly small chance of making finals this year, and even if by some miracle we did we're an even smaller chance of going anywhere in finals. On that basis, we are much, much better off using all the games available to give the player who might be our long-term halfback first grade experience in the role.
Again all I care about is winning games. The rest of that stuff will work itself out when we start winning more games.

It is completely illogical to move Latu straight back in at halfback because he “might” be our long term halfback. Let’s pick the side each week that gives us the best opportunity to win.

For what it’s worth, based on what I’ve seen, I don’t think AD or Latu should be our long term halfback. AD, Latu and Luai are all 5/8’s. We need a quality, controlling half to guide us around. I said at the time when he was available we should have a massive crack at Fogarty but Manly locked him up pretty quickly.

I'm not against Adam at half. What I push back against is that his performance wasn't because he made great halfback plays. One was a dropped ball. One was a run from dummy half. One was a hitup where he offloaded.

He didn't create anything out of shape or structure, so while I'm excited about his performance, it was not a halfback clinic he put on against the Dogs.

I don't think we lose anything by having him as a lock, but in that particular game where the weather meant more traffic through the middle, the bigger body at half and the extra forward on at lock made sense in the conditions.

We will see what happens against Manly I guess.

I do also think it's not correct that Adam hasn't had a chance in the halves...this season he's had limited time there, but he's been with us a long time and has had multiple chances overbthe years, but has been moved each time because he cannot maintain any consistency there.

We can put it down to the injuries or whatever excuses, but Latu has also had injuries and we don't seem to make the same excuses for him.
I agree with that. I see Adam as a ball running 5/8 with a good long kicking game. That’s always been his best position.

I don’t think it’s realistic to expect him to make 30+ tackles, dirty hit ups, ball play, do the general field long kicking and goal kick. There’s literally no one in the comp that does that.

IMO his long kicking game is crucial for us, so at the moment the halves is the spot for him.

Before we worry about looking at someone like Mooney or another prop or similar, aren't we a tad shy of roster spots now Geyer, Doueihi ,Roberts , Jock have signed on?

Or are the others KOE signings i havent heard where they plug in as yet top 30 or otherwise, you would assume Bud would be loaned another year but not confirmed.

My source with knowledge of the situation talking on the condition of anonymity says we'll never know exactly the amount AD was offered by the Dragons nor what we accepted from us, so gloves down lads.

It is funny though in a few Insta stories from team mates including Tito this arvo to congratulate AD, was the money emoji lol Maybe he's our very own Rod Tidwell "show me the money"!
Adam Doueihi, our very own money man.

St.George realised that they didn't really need him because they've already got their very own money man.

Doueihi is a genuine utility who is also a good athlete with size, power, pace and a good long kicking game. The latter is a asset we've never utilised to the fullest. He also has an uncatchable high kick. From memory he was a schoolboy international rugby player.
Not disagreeing with much of what you have just stated but I would like to see that uncatchable high kick, been a while since I've seen one unless he's snuck in a few when I wasn't watching.

Would love to see one or two of those at a minimum every game.

That would be OK; if we made a deal with AD. However, if the deal meant Wests Tigers could offer "unders" then it is a breach. There has to be complete separation of the the third party and the club. For example; we couldn't chat with Richo and say that if AD signs for X tell him that we'll top him up with a thrid party advertising deal worth 100K; but,, we could approach AD directly, or post contract signature, and offer him an 100K advertising deal as a means to increase our market exposure. While similar in nature it is the invovement of the club that differentiates what is and isn't included in the cap.
If you did a 3 year third party deal with Adam Doueihi and in the 3rd year he went to New Guinea you would technically still be obliged to pay him, it is supposedly strictly a deal between the 3rd party sponsor and the player, nothing related to a particular club and applicable regardless of which team he is playing for.

That's my understanding at least.

The ball is very steep and drifted before drifting was common place in the NRL. I first saw it when he played 7 in the Balmain SG Ball team against the Sharks at Shark Park. The Sharks I believe won the premiership but their fullback and wingers I don't believe caught a ball all match.

Spot on - if the club is invoved it is not a TPA and it is part of his salary and in the cap.
