Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Some very good points you raise.
I’ve also noticed some very good highlights showing explosive ball running from Toby Crosby. Outside of JFH the Warriors do not have any high profile props themselves, so I don’t think they will be letting him go.
I don’t mind the Fletcher Baker call as someone who could add valuable depth and competition for a position in our top 17.
I think Toby Crosby is off to Penrith going by the media 🤷

highly rated by the club. dunno if he gets Flegg or Cup but I'm hoping he remains in Flegg for the sake of player development.

Cup's a prick of a job at the best of times.
Out of all of our NRL coaching staff Aaron Payne is the only one out of contract this season. As we know his role is tri-fold NSW Cup coach, NRL transition coach & NRL gameday assistant. Sultana would be an ideal candidate for this given his relationship & success with our Flegg players moving up of which there will be quite a few.

I'd leave Sultana in Flegg tbh. no doubt there needs to be some stability around some players and how they're developed (Mapapalangi, Mason and Luke Lau getting moved about case in point), but that's on Benji and Betsey. they need to be better at that for whoever is due in the seat next.

I think Sultana's strength is in identifying which players can be developed and transitioned quickly from SG to Flegg. those over 21 identified for higher honours will likely be training with the top squad and under the tutelage of the FG staff anyway. for that reason I'd leave him there.

additionally, I'm really curious to see who transitions permanently to Cup from this Flegg crop. having Broederlow, Saukuru, Roberts and Godinet all on the books means a couple will miss out, and Taupau-Moors will do well to lock down a spot on the pine pending what happens in preseason. nice to have depth, but again I have no idea what transpires.

Haywood will obviously push his way thru and Tavana will likely lock down the right sting in Cup, but I've got no idea where Liles, Mataale, Matai and Lanyon end up. less worried about the Taotua's, Delaney, Deninger etc cause they've got another year of Flegg to go.

Ive got no intel on it, but just based on performance I reckon it’s a fair chance another club will put Max Taotua on a Development Deal if we cannot find something for him.

I've been thinking a bit about this too, will be very interesting.

I think we've seen the club this season under Richo a bit more patient with progressing our young talent through the grades & playing them in the right grade until they are ready to progress + until there is a spot to progress to. And how important it is to have some senior depth in NSW Cup.

Personally I think we'll see Tavana, Lanyon, Mataale, Liles & Matai retained for NSW Cup (out of those turning 22 next year) and a good chance Max Taotua is given every chance to lock down the right centre spot in Cup over the pre-season given he's physically ready (even though he can still play Flegg).

Hopefully Jaxson Rahme, Vaka Aho & Izaac Tui'tupou are 3 retained on Cup deals (maybe Tuitupou on higher) to add experienced depth too.

Then the likes of Javon Andrews, Haywood, Godinet, Taupau-Moors start the season in Flegg and then progress to Cup fulltime halfway through the season. Give them a chance to dominate in Flegg and earn the promotion.

Despite you, I and quite a few others being of the belief that Heath Mason will be best suited to the halves with progression to playing 9 and possibly a little bit of 13, it seems Benji and the club hierarchy are set on him continuing as predominantly a fullback.
This would pave the way for the likes of Liles and/or Matai to challenge Javon Andrews to be our starting NSW Cup 5/8.

You’re putting words in my mouth. I never said I was upset with anything. I’m going off what the club has said that they would rather wait for something to fall out of trees. In reaction to that, I’d rather them be more proactive than sit on their hands.

The open market is bare of quality players we need, so to get something to fall from a tree often requires a proactive approach to generate an opportunity.

It’s always quite heading into finals for good reason teams lock down and want players to focus on what is important.

I also think us shoring up the May boys, Bud moving on, potential for Bird and another to leave, Bula what next are all chess moves that need to be ticked off to finalize $$$ to boost out market position. I can’t see that Richo & Benji are doing nothing but waiting.

One of the great mysteries of the world @Vicious - what are the positional plans for Mason?

Fingers crossed they really get him into the protein shakes in the off & pre-season, work him with the big boys in wrestling & tackling practice and give him heaps of tutelage & reps at dummy half including in the trials.

I see potential in him becoming a very good 9 instantly if that’s the path they see for him.
