Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Reading between the lines it appears to again becoming a situation where all our players are wanting upgrades before they agree to re-sign or extend with us, then wonder why we have no cap space left to build a better playing roster.
We need at least 2, I believe 3 good quality additions to our top 17 to become a more complete team, but if we keep paying all our current players what they are asking for in regards to upgrades, we simply will not have any cap space left for any more recruitment.
Not pointing the finger at Taylan May as on form he is clearly our best outside back, but Terrell has been hinting at wanting more money and I am certain Bula will be asking us for a million dollars per season to extend with us long term.
I’m sorry, but as good as Terrell has been, I could not offer him more than 750-800lk maximum to extend with us past his current deal and Bula is not worth a cent more than 900k even that is being very generous.
I’m not sure what we paid To’a, but anything above 250k was too much.
Likewise I’m one of Seyfarth’s few fans, but it’s been rumoured we’re paying him 400k when he is also not worth anything more than 250k.
Pole’s contract value would be interesting as I reckon we would have paid him 500k to keep him on our books. That’s not too bad when he’s at his best, but I would hope he shows a lot more consistency next season to earn that type of money.
I assume we will also need to upgrade Sione Fainu quite significantly to retain him.
We paid far too much for Turuva if the previously stated 450k per season is correct.
Makasini will likely need an upgrade fast if he improves at the rate we expect him to.
Not much we can do about Jerome’s contract, but if he asks for a cent more than the 1.25 million per season we are paying him, he is kidding himself.

Speculation.

I actually think Richo has done excellent and resigned and signed new players for unders when our last management would have given in and paid overs.
I think today's media about May is media BS as it has been announced just now his staying and if true it would take more than a few hours to get sorted.

Your understanding and perception of the salary cap and pay is seriously warped!

Turuva for 450k is a steal in comparison to other wingers. Most NRL starting wingers are on 400-650k.

To’a is a top 13 player in our squad and you’re suggesting anything over 250k is too much. You won’t find any starting NRL players with 50+ games on less than 250k. Players on 250k are usually players 26-28 in the 30 man roster. Even if you personally don’t rate him, he’s not even close to being that far down the roster.

The salary cap is 11.4million and you HAVE to spend 95% of it. No player in the best 17 should be on less than 350k based on the cap and number of roster spots.

There are 100 players league wide on more than 610k. We only have 4 on more than 610k which means the rest of the squad need to account for the rest of the cap that needs to be spent.

We have plenty of cap space, Galvins offer was 1 million, TDS clears 450k, half of Sullivan deal is gone as is Naden, Staines and the lower guys like Feledy, Tumeth, Matamua etc. Add all that to the extra money from the increase in the cap. We just havnt spent it yet because Richo clearly wants to get the right guys.

Richo knows what he’s doing and what each player is worth, which is why we only have 4 players in the top 100 and all on are relatively fair/accurate deals. Nearly every other club has at least 1 or 2 really bad higher pay contracts. Were one of the only clubs that doesn’t have a bad one.

Jack Hetherington & Adam Elliott FFS 🤦
Look, some players I would take at the right price....

Adam Elliot is done, but Jack Hetherington under 200k... Sure. (not happening, but sure).

That said, we picked up Olam, who was a gun but done. Picking a lemon at any price is dumb.

So where does that leave the big guy from Melbourne??

Do we want a 2 impact prop team with Hunt+ NelsonAS? Yes, then hire him... No (and this is what I think Benji wants) keep searching and find another player similar to May and KPP.

Totally different.

Terrell deserves more coin. He easily can command 800k and we should pay it.
Bula? yea/nah... think about it.

Just commenting on the backs. There is a lot of value to keeping them the same. I really think this has been our problem in the past. Always chopping and changing centers/wingers. People cannot do no/look passes if they can't remember who their winger is. 300k for Toa is fine. Turuva on 450k is absolutely money well spent (thought he was on 500k). Turuva has really helped make that difference in defense and improve our side.

If paying 300k for Toa and 500k for Turuva means our backline DOESN'T change and we actually have some defense instead of giving away 4 tries per game. YES PLEASE!
