Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I think Dragons are really building something.
2 X Couchman, Egan, Stewart, Halangahu are all going to have very good careers and is the making of a very strong pack in the future. Theres a few more highly regarded young forwards following them but it remains to be seen if they kick on should they reach first grade.
We could target them while Flanno is on the nose due to continuing to picking his son and before he gets them winning.

They also have one of the best young halfbacks coming through. Check the number 7 in this game, he seems like a real talent.

Eels will be top 8 next year. Ryles is a good coach. Iongi is a great player and will only get better. Lomax, Fox, Moses in the backline is a lot of points. Good rotation of hookers in Ryley smith and da silva. Decent forwards.

Knights have signed trey mooney, sandon smith and dylan brown. Holbrook too. They will not be near top 8 but they will improve with new combinations.

Titans will improve a lot with hannay as coach and foran in coaching staff. Brimson at centre and Kini at fullback is promising.

Manly could get the spoon imo... Fogarty is a decent player but in a bad team he doesn't shine. Loss of DCE and turbo bros potentially on the outer is another distraction

Dragons with senior Flanno will never win the spoon. They are ugly to watch but they have been in plenty of close games this year losing by a small margin and Atkinson will help them win those games next year.

Rabbitohs won't get spoon with wayne. This year was the year if at all. Murray back will be huge.

Cowboys have terrible defence and todd payten will be first coach sacked next year I think but there's no way they're finishing bottom 2 with dearden there.

Who does that leave? Tigers. We have ticked the box. 3 spoons and then a 4 spot jump. Coach and team seem happy to 'improve' and this acceptance of a low standard is not a good attitude going into the off season. Kai Pearce-Paul being our only notable signing is a worry. Jock Madden will be a solid backup but that's all. Mav Geyer might surprise a few, but ultimately his ceiling isn't very high. It is good to build some depth, but we need a lot more class. I'm not hopeful of a good season next year

The Eels are your definition of a one man team … if Moses is injured ( he has missed plenty of time the past couple of years) they will be at the foot of the table again

I seen Andrew Johns make comment about Jesse Southwell potential move to the Broncos , she has player option 26/27 in place and could leave Newcastle , Johns made comment similar to a few of us on hear saying it would be a tragedy due to the fact there are only a couple teams that are stacked with quality players ( Broncos - Roosters ) said if she left you may as well have just one round and the final which most likely be bronco V Roosters , the nrl need to look at it as there is def not enough guns to allow stacked teams , increase the ladies pay and bring in a draft to keep it even , Wests Tigers are a perfect example of min talent in a team , we need at least 3 regular top players to compete , spread the talent now or I think it will fold and not grow , Southwell is a very good player and if she goes to broncos she replaces Brigginshaw who is and has been a very good player , win win , she is better than our half by a country mile , step in NRL and fix it before it’s to late

Unfortunately, we shouldn’t be in the position we are with Benji, considering a certain ex coach of ours and the position he’s in atm. And for us to luck into him after Cleary doing what he did was very fortunate. We could have easily ended up with a rookie. But Sheens decided to go into business for himself and set this club back even further than it was after Cleary took off.

Could be the new articles written on tigers , instead of talented players playing elsewhere , it’s going to be successful coaches , with Cleary killing it and Maguire doing well at broncos

Is players like Josh Feledy, Justin Matamua and Brendan Tumeth not developing into solid NRL players a reflection on WT development planning or some players peak at a level below NRL standard. I appreciate that not all Gun juniors don't always make gun NRL players. Forum Members thoughts?

Issue is teams can give players job's off the field within the current rules.

And those salaries could be anything.

Hence Roosters and Broncos have the most funds to do this. They aren't magically getting players to play for less under the cap, they are handing out high paying "jobs" to keep and bring in players.

To be blunt they're just not talented enough, the good young players show something straight away when they get their 1st grade debut and don't look back or are always pressing to be selected.

It doesn't matter how good a team's development system is if you have a rocking horse you can't change it into a racehorse.

Blame can't be laid on the Tigers development we have bought some good players through over the years.

Don’t really know if they had it. Obviously matama and tumeth were missing something as they didn’t make cup or flegg
To make the jump to the next level they need far more dedication than on their way up,
Sometimes circumstances align and give them a leg up. It’s also far easier to get discarded or written off playing in losing sides

Also players lost such as tatola pasecka were not able to be given time due to really needing first grade ready players

All 3 played for successful NSW u/19’s teams and just haven’t progressed as well as expected for one reason or another.

It's mind boggling the number of players we lost over the years that went onto useful NRL careers.
But Jason Taylor caused the loss of JAC thinking he wouldn't make a 1st grader (don't know what he couldn't see everyone else could) and he wouldn't give Pasecka a taste of 1st grade (in my opinion he should have) so he left for Manly.

As for Tatola I don't know which knucklehead was responsible for that F up but he was a big body coming through and I remember thinking to myself why are they letting this guy go.

Eels have not improved at all
Knights are miles behind us
Manly are the most inconsistent team in the comp
Titans can attack every couple of weeks and that’s it
Dragons team isn’t getting any younger
Cowboys have no new signings coming in
Rabbits even without injuries are not a better team then us

This post has to be ragebait
Agree with most of that except for perhaps the first and last points. The Eels have improved out of sight and I think the Rabbits at full strength would be better than us and a lot of other teams as well.

The problem with the WNRL is the roosters and the broncos are playing with 2x everyone elses cap at the min. The 3rd party contract set up is a joke .

Not sure why there is ANY panic with the roster going into next year.

Clear improvements this year regarding literally every aspect of the game.

A lot of things to note

The full pre season was with Galving and Luai as the halves. Did we look good/improved in the first 5 weeks of the season. YES. Then what happened? Galvin had his 7th sook regarding his contract and ultimately [This word has been automatically removed]ed us for the next 5 weeks due to a disruption. ANYYYY team who loses a half mid season will struggle for a period.

First 10 weeks Star was looking like a top 5 centre, injuries hit and he started arm grabbing and it was looking shit but Im sure with a full off season he should come good next year again unless he gets comfortable with his contract.

It is clear as day that Latu x Luai as a combination especially in the red zone. Latu is 100% our future 7. Yes Doueihi looked great at 7 but that was due to his game management. Latu can learn that but doueihi can't learn the ball play and deception that Latu has. Latu also squares up the middle insanely well for someone who hasn't had a full season. He is ALSO a better defender than Doueihi.

We had an outside back problem for YEARSSSSSS. Now we are spoilt for choice with May, Star, Turuva, Masi, Skelton, Luke L and Doueihi if need be.

Samuela has a clear knee issue but looked insane towards the end of the season especially with May next to him. That left edge is lethal in both attack and D.

Our middles are also night and day better than it has been in a decade. Terrell has made over 100m every game and last 3 years we had multiple games where we had not a single forward over 100m.

KPP coming to our right edge will also give us a crap ton of stability especially defensively. Seyfarth off the bench is underrated and he will thrive in the middle if he keeps his discipline under control

Minus the Storm game we were pretty much in every game and had a chance to win them. Big improvment from the last 3 years where we woujld concede over 50 pts at least 3-5 times a season

For those who are off Bula. Honestly silly to think we are better without him. We literally only won 2 games without him this year and one of them was against the roosters with many key players out and the other game was the Titans

THE BIGGEST TAKEAWAY FROM THIS SEASON IS THE CONNECTION AND CHEMISTRY THE TEAM HAS.

For those dibby downers who are bagging the team. STAY ON THAT SIDE. I would put my house on us making the 8 next year if we have a full pre season and an uninterrupted season.
