Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I don't actually know the terms and conditions , is that how it works? I would have thought that retirement is retirement.. i can't imagine it being like insurance underwriting with exclusions etc
If past concussions are a pre-existing condition...no player could medically retire and if there is a way to diagnose at risk players than they should not be allowed on the field...ever again. This is not as straightforward as a dodgy shoulder or knee.

I thought there was an insurance policy that is funding these retirement payouts ….

The payout is for players that cannot see out their contract as they are medically retired. The club takes out insurance for this. It's only for whatever years and dollars are left in your contract. The insurance company will not pay out preexisting conditions and more importantly the NRL will not let you exclude the salary from your cap unless you can prove it is a new, career ending injury.

I could also see him going to the Rabbitohs but the optics would be so bad for the club if they have multiple junkies in their team
Can't see Souths as an option at all. They have way too many 13s. Murray and Hubner plus it is Tallis Duncans preferred position. Brandon Smith will probably spend some time as a 13 during games and Keaon has also played there. David Fifita will take up cap space once he moves there.

The only Sydney teams that would be after Radley would be us, Dragons and maybe Manly and Parra.

Manly will be working out their new coach.

It's probably a good time to sign players. They would be foolish to be signing names with Siebold on the chopping block and surely he will be chopped soon.

Parra it really depends on how big a fan Jason is... If Parra is bidding it means there is some value in him.

I am just a bit wary. The guy is a high effort/high intensity player. Definately if fit... buy.
But he has had so many headknocks and we may be left with a paperweight if he can't take the field. ..??

Getting Josh Reynolds/James Tamou vibes, but could be wrong and he may have something to prove on the field... lets hope so.

The details from the text messages in the Chammas article are damaging.... plus you can see why May didn't totally fit in there, his English was too advanced.
Yep the txt message says
“You sorted ‘US’ good”, so all of the golfing group comes under a cloud.

But there will possibly be only one fall guy at the roosters who ‘may’ be able to walk away without any financial loss.

Would be keen on Radley. He's someone players don't want to run at.

Ball playing lock, who runs hard, hits hard and has played plenty of hooker so can give Api a spell too.

Only contingency would be for the club to investigate if his previous concussions would rule him out of a future medical retirement due to concussions. If NRL clears it then I would be all in.

Roosters have a kamikaze style of defensive and attacking technique. It gets them results however it also delivers a large number of concussions...think Cordner, Friend, Radley and Teddy has had his fair share. walker has also had more than he should with his number of games. Perhaps in a different system with different structure Radley may be able to temper his technique and prolong his career.

Why has radley been playing 12 the last few games. Is it to reduce him tackling the big blokes and getting head knocks or is it that chooks think he’s done

I like that he can play hooker and 13.
Buyer beware though
Without a conviction he will be off to UK I’d expect

I would be interested to know if he would be eligible for medical retirement after a few more concussions if he was to sign a contract with a new club. I guess his issues with concussion are existing therefore excluding him from medical retirement?
Yeh, I'm not sure about the rules around medical retirement. I just hope he puts his long-term health in front of the $.

I'd Give him a miss, to many head knocks, ageing player it would be a retirement pay , he wouldn't give his absolute all week in week out .👎

Does he play much these days? He's on a downward spiral could be the worst player to ever wear a Tiger's jersey

I think we are one of the more difficult to predict teams for whether or not we improve next year.
You made some fair points in that our squad is essentially the same plus KPP and the side was very fortunate with injuries this year. So it's entirely possible if we are sitting middle of the pack or worse as far as injuries go we will regress next year. Particularly as I agree there is plenty of reasons to expect more from some of the other lowly ranked teams.
However there is a lot of potential for natural development in individuals across our best 17, Bula, Skelton, Taylan May, all 3 Fainus, Pole. I'm less confident but it is possible that we see more consistency from Toa plus who knows if Doueihi can turn himself into a capable 13 (if that is the plan). Enough individual improve will lead to a significant team improvement. I've more faith in some of the above than others, and I'm certainly not predicting we will suddenly look like top 8 material but next year is not without hope.
I honestly think the Luai/Fainu/Doueihi problem would be fixed easily if Luai just dug his heels in and had a proper crack at 7. He is still a good player but he was in very bad form both at 7 and 6. He had a disrupted season with galvin overtaking him, then heath mason for a few weeks, then latu, doueihi, and then latu again. He looked his best next to AD understandably playing as a running 6 acting instinctively. AD is the best stable option for the next year to get the boys home in games we should win, luai is probably the one who should be stepping up but is simply not doing enough, and latu's selection at 7 will be good for the future of the club long-term but hurt us short-term in closing out games rather than how sides like the Storm have eased in Jonah Pezet for example.

Always fascinates me how a club will cut a player loose for something like this, yet another club will be happy to swoop right in. So for the all the clubs who will show interest, would they not most likely sack the player too? So why is signing a player who has just been sacked for it different? Do clubs just not want players to be caught while they are contracted to them?
