Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

13th

Yep...hard to please...farkin oath im hard to please with 14 years of this shit

You keep clapping happily with old mate mr postcode
If you think what I'm saying means I think everything is fine or I'm happy to be 13th there's no helping you. We came last three years running, including at least one where every team in every grade came last, and you're whining like a spoiled baby because we didn't win the comp this year. The joint was a debacle from top to bottom, mate - it's just not fixable in 12 months. Just endlessly demanding new or different free agent signings is the kind of strategy I'd expect to hear from an 11 year old.

You need to give up mate

You really are taking to 11yo's

well you should.

like it or not HBG are as tight as a fish's arse. the only way we can ensure we can compete with the likes of Canterbury and Parramatta is thru becoming a self sustainable entity that funnels funds directly into the Football Department.

so when Richo says that we've turned a profit, it's a big deal, because being a profitable enterprise is the only way we remain out of the cellar.
The NRL fund every dollar we spend on players within our salary cap.
If Richo and Benji can’t get that right I don’t see how that’s the fault of the HBG ?

Given we've been about the most active club in the player market since this guy came in, incomings and exits, and most of the business he has done has been somewhere between pretty good and excellent, I'd have though he'd have earned the right not to have dribblers just assuming he hasn't got a clue what he's doing.

The point about the mid-season update directly contradicts your argument, incidentally. What Richardson said at the time was that the club knows where it wants to improve the roster and is picking off players who it believes can do that. Specifically, it was back row and centre... and here we are a couple of months later and we've added KPP and Taylan May. What about that doesn't look planned to you? Do you seriously think the idea of signing May was some sort of idle whim?

I think you can also probably assume that there isn't a massive amount of space in the salary cap for 2026. They can't spend money they don't have.

I think the message on the interview was extremely clear: Richardson has spent a lot of time and effort clearing out dead wood and getting the club on an even keel. From here, stability and consistency is going to deliver improvements more than additional chopping and changing does, as well as what I've been talking about for months: building depth through production of our own players and signing for value if and when it's available.
Our playing roster as it stands for 2026 cannot and will not make the top 8, blind Freddy can see that.
So if we think hopefully finishing somewhere between 10th and 14th is a success, than Richo is doing a great job.
If we are wanting or hoping to finish in the top 8 or better, then we are again setting ourselves up for failure UNLESS we recruit a minimum of 2 players in position of need, who add value to our top 17 between now and the start of the 2026 season.

Richo mentioned about $1M. Not sure if that was the profit, but we let go of Klemmer, Bateman, Galvin, TDS without replacing them. That’s close to $1M between them, not to mention taking home games away.

So in theory if we played with a top 30 like every other club we wouldn’t have turned a profit.
You have to spend 95% of the cap to be compliant. Even if we only spent 95% that’s a $650,000 saving, so wouldn’t account for the profit.

I’d be surprised if there were any clubs that don’t spend pretty much all of it, even if some is used to front load players.

There is only one reason Richo loves talking profit, to justify his own over inflated wage.
No idea how so many get sucked in to believing most of the crap that comes out of his mouth.
Richo needs to focus on building us a genuine top 8 playing roster, otherwise we are wasting our time and money paying his monsterous wage.

If youre content with the current roster/ coaching staff then keep on clapping happily.

Imo KPP has been a passenger at Newie and doesnt fill me with confidence, I hope he shows something different here but going off what weve all seen of him since his announcement its not much to get excited about

Taylan was an arsey pick up....he could be right now sitting in Silverwater thinking what if....thank his bro, Id say thats what tipped it in out favour.

Many would dispute you signing for value statement....Its been a constant topic of discussion all year players like Api, Luai Bird and Hunt

👏👏👏
I think we have done incredibly well considering where we were... Things don't happen over night, but if we look at the signings that worked out for this year:
- Luai
- Terrell
- Taylan
- Turuva

That isn't a bad start for just one season...

On KPP,:
- he played in a side who scored 139 points less than the Tigers (and our attack was average at best). To give some context, the tigers scored 463 points last year when we got the spoon vs the Knights 388 this year
- the knights had 4-6 different halves combinations, can't even think of how many spine combos they had.
- Bradman best was an origin centre last year, this year he looked like shite (I'm pretty sure they are on the same side, either way, it's an indicator that the knights as a whole were trash).

If we compare kpp's situation to Samuela, this year he really didn't look his best until Luai moved to the #6... He looked even better when Taylan came into the side and added an additional threat... So it goes to show how the players around KPP can have a big impact on his game.

I was underwhelmed with KPP too, but I don't think we can pass judgement on him - there's indicators he's exactly what we need and the potential combination with a fully fit Douhei and Toa could be lethal.

In saying this, if we don't make another signing in the off-season then we are probably in trouble.. but I think we will

Stop sooking mate

Who else is going to go ahead better job?

We have been looking for decades

What's your answer to the problem??

God oh mighty?

He paid too much for Luai.
Got lucky with Terrell thanks to the Rousters.
Richo did not want Taylan who virtually had to beg us to sign him.
He paid too much for Turuva.
We have virtually the same money to spend on our salary cap as every other NRL club, so no matter how anyone wants to spin it, if we do not make the top 8 and/or do not have a playing roster good enough to make the top 8, then it’s a failure.

The answer is certainly not missing the top 8 and not having a playing roster good enough to make the top 8.
A large portion of Wests Tigers supporters are sick and tired of receiving participation certificates year after year.

This isn’t Rugby League 26 you can’t just get rid of players at the click of a finger if they’re locked into a contract. Richo & Benji are taking a patient approach & if the right player pops up i’m sure they’ll be all over it. Do we really want to sit here & have a repeat of panic signings like Tyrone Peachey & James Roberts?

What did he say
Don’t expect anymore big signings. The depth is improved. Talked up KPP fixing right side defence.

Talked up the squad clean out and how settled the roster is for the next 2 years.

Looks like club will develop Makasini, Moors and Godinet.

Said he believes the squad can be up with the best within 3 years or Benji and him will be out of a job…
