Stefano Utoikamanu #241

Usually goes to winning team 20/40 and that, imho, will be the Storm.
Early in the season I was thinking Storm had a great chance of GF victory, especially seeing they picked up Utoikamanu. But I’ve changed my opinion during the last few weeks. Madge has got the Broncos primed and they are super confident. The way they disposed of Panthers was something.

I am not yet convinced, all 3 of their tries came from arsey plays and there was a lot of luck in them. I just think the panthers were cooked in the back end of the game and the ball bounced for the broncos as well as the massive amount of crowd support. Will be a very different proposition against the storm on neutral ground and storm have 2 extra days rest. I think that was the Broncs GF...although I do hope I am wrong. If I was a betting man, I would be taking 13+ on the Storm (I am).

Both Panthers and Raiders were absolutely belted into submission and had nothing left for the last 15min. I’m expecting a smarter game from Walsh this time. He doesn’t need to take a couple of carries during the first 3 minutes. Maguire would have a blueprint for Storm and where they can improve on their Panthers game.
Really looking forward to this game.

Storm 22 - 12

Utoikamanu was good is the semi .....calling out Haas and Carrigan isn't wise

I dont know stef from a bar of soap and could have totally wrong impression of him

But out of all that left tigers he has probably rubbed me the wrong way the most . Seems full of it really .

Left the eels
Had the clauses in contract about finals or origin appearances like he is some superstar that demands excellence and then says he is leaving to win premierships then this bullshit about broncos being stuck up , when he finally dominates a game or two

Stefano has changed his body shape under Bellamy....lost 5-7 kgs og fat,and replaced them with attide and stamina.Think he will be picked for Kangaroos as theres not much else other than Tino and Carrigan

At the Tigers he was already faster than some of our outside backs but he seems to be quicker now? Maybe due to the weight loss? He was always a good trainer, couldn’t get into the Tigers locked up gym at Christmas. In Melbourne gyms are open 24/7.

I can't hate him.

He played out the season and put in some kind of effort.. and to be fair, we were a dogsh1t side with poor systems - i can see how at the time Bellamy would be more appealing and benji - still would be for the bulk of players...

And to be fair, if stef kicks on like he has this semi-final series, he will have proved all the clauses were founded.. he's young and backed himself.. he's a good player who needs to be surrounded by a good system.. alot like luai or ben hunt.. not every player is like Andrew Johns and single handedly makes a 20 point difference..

Don't mind stef, even if he was a bit of a cat for us at times.

Stefano was outstanding against the sharks.
Not sure he'll have the same impact against the Broncos, but who knows, especially if he maintains that attitude.

He lost me when he left.
I'll never be a fan.

He's gone from the spoon to the grand final.
Lucky him.

I care little for whether Stefano succeeds or not. But what did annoy me was his interview last weekend where he said he has improved because Bellamy emphasises effort from his players do he decided to put in more effort.

Two things here - one he is suggesting that Benji and the Tigers do not emphasise effort - which is disturbing for Tigers fans, more on that below - but the other thing is he is saying he only put in effort after being told to do so. What is he? A 10yo??!!! At the Tigers he was a grown man who was getting paid big money to be a professional athlete - I think that if you didn’t show effort on your own initiative then you were a big part of the problem.

However it does highlight a problem at the Tigers (a problem which stems from Benji’s philosophy from his playing days). And that is we don’t do the simple things well. We don’t emphasise effort plays, we don’t fight to play the ball quickly, we don’t race back to the defensive line, we don’t play smart when we have a good lead ( witness games we threw away against Cowboys and Titans - and lots of others). The Storm do all of those things. But that stuff bored Benji when he was a player and it probably bores him now. He ALWAYS preferred the highlights reel play ahead of the boring smart play that wins games. That attitude (of both him AND Robbie) cost the Club premierships in 2010 and 2011. Until the Tigers emphasise effort and do all the little things right and take smart options they will remain also-rans.

It's downright stupid and the bloke does not have anywhere near enough runs on the board to be calling out the Broncos. I want Melbourne to win but I hope Haas or somebody leaves their stud marks all over Stefano as they run over the top of him.
He s absolutely crapped himself when with WTs whenever he came up against a same sized prop like Haas or AFB..he just completely disappeared.Didnt want anything to do with them..
But a 7 or a 9 was always fair game to steamroller
Has grown a pair when he lost weight apparently..but will see with his early confrontations with Haas
Still resent the way he dogged it Moses style(almost) when he left,,and his ongoing dumping on WTs

He was the same at origin
