Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I knew this Bula contract negotiation would blow up.
How he thinks he’s worth 900k per season or more is beyond me.
He’s a good athlete, but I’ve never seen him kick a ball, very rarely passes the ball and doesn’t have the courage to take the ball to the line and put a team mate through a gap.
He’s dreaming if he thinks the Bulldogs will pay him 900k. They might want to sign him, but no way will they pay that much for him, so we shouldn’t be the suckers to give in to his unrealistic demands.
Fullbacks in Rugby Union need to have a good kicking game, so that’s not an option.
I know the Perth Bears will be desperate for players, but I don’t think they will be silly enough to pay 900k or higher for Bula either.

What did Bula do to you mate? Your campaign against him has got me stumped. I have not met one casual rugby league fan who doesn't rate him and acknowledge him as a player who is destined for better performance in coming 2-4 years.

Bula is a good player, I just cannot see value in him at 900k or higher.
When you are talking about players getting paid that type of money, you expect elite individually brilliant match winners.
How often have you seen him single handedly be the difference in us winning or losing from his involvement and individual brilliance ?
Nothing at all against him, I just don’t understand why we have so many fans adamant we should be paying whatever contract value he asks for to retain him.
No fault of his own, but he doesn’t have a kicking game, doesn’t have a passing game that regularly poses a threat to the opposition and only occasionally threatens to make a line break from his own individual brilliance.

He's a 750K player and when the cap goes up 825K

I think the issue is who do we replace him with and the options are minimal if not zero.

Getting back to the persuading messages, I’d be telling him if he wants to take more money elsewhere and do bad by his 12 apostles he can explain it to Satin in the afterlife.

Really need to go hard on the biblical references and innuendo I think.

Mmmm really do mmm.

Broncos are considering it now. The loan, not necessarily with us, I’m merely asking the forum if it would be a good idea.
Oh I thought this news was before Billy did his ACL. Bit of a risk by Bronx in a title window considering how old Reno and hunt are and Billy coming back from ACL, but could pay dividends

Its also important to note that Bula is on the same timeline as our squad... We have the youngest team in the competition. Jahream is 3-4 years away from his peak. Another year or two with Api, Jahrome and Latu/Doueihi will only help him develop into an elite players. He's absolutely worth investing in.

The logic is if we start paying Reece Walsh type money for Jahream Bula, we will not have the cap space to field a competitive team alongside him.
So it’s either he does the honour thing and triggers his contract extension for his true value or he puts us in a difficult position wondering how we pay an over inflated contract value to keep him and also find the cap space to field a competitive team alongside him.
I would ask him the question - “Do you want to play finals and hopefully compete for an NRL Premiership, or do you just want the cash”?
Exactly.
Squeeze the piggy bank dry and leave too few $$$$ to strengthen other positions.
ie. Not enough $$$$$ to buy or attract the right players to fill the vulnerable positions.
Got to buy into the team culture, future plans, directions and your teammates.
Failing that; ---- you languish forever in in nowhere land. No finals.

A good investment is buying at the right price.

Cost is very important as when paying players above 800k it means they are the ones that need to regularly be highly dominant match winners.
I would go as high as an upgrade to 800k for Jahream in 2026, providing he also signs for 800k in 2027 and 2028.
That would give him the loyalty and respect of a decent upgrade for 2026 and show of confidence in also being paid extremely well for 2027 and 2028.
It would also be a renegotiated contract that would give dopey Isaac his cut.
It would also give us that little bit of wiggle room to upgrade the likes of Terrell May who will also likely be looking for 800k to extend with us as well as hopefully extending all 3 Fainu brothers and potentially adding a little bit more quality to consolidate the overall strength of our squad.

People worry about the clubs money as if they're major shareholders or something...

To us Bula is worth the money. We have no other fullbacks at the club, there's not many top ones available to sign, and we are a much better team with him in it

The longer we keep our spine together the more success we will have. Bula is extremely fast, a try scorer and showed big improvements in his play making while still only like 22. No brainer to keep him imo

And likewise our value to him and appreciation of what the club has done for him should be a big part of his thinking if he is genuine.
800k is his value and he should do the honourable thing and activate his contract extension for that value, taking into consideration we cannot afford to keep overpaying highly paid players and still have enough cap space to have a good quality team playing alongside of them.

You keep going on about Bula not activating his clause is a bad thing, yet you have zero idea if Bula and the club are in the middle of working through a revised contract which would be a good thing.

We know you aren’t the biggest fan of his but his clauses are short sighted and doubt the club is focusing on a 1yr addition for a key positional player.
