Jahream Bula #269

My take on the Bula conversation is at the moment he is worth what we are paying him 700k and that's for another season yet.

After another off-season's work and by the middle of next season he should be showing supporters and the club he's worth probably 800k looking forward to 27.
My gut feeling is the club is trying for this figure for a min of 3 years extension and A wipe Moses is trying to get more hence the hold up.

Bula has stated many times he wants to stay so don't take any notice of the Chammas rubbish he's peddling it's just jack shit speculation.

I want Bula to stay but if his heart's not in the place well deal with him as we did with the others, useless if he's not all in or thinks he's a 1 mil superstar, he may become that but at the moment he has a way to go.
See Pacific Champs? He's got a kicking game now, worth an extra 100k for sure 😂

Fullback is easy position to replace. As much as I would like to keep him, it's no big deal really.

Mate did you see today's headline saying that his game against the cookie boys just increased his value.
I'm still laughing, their defense out wide was softer than dog shit, another Moses induced headline strategy that even blind Freddie can see through now he's used it to death.

He's no Teddy or Paps, genuine superstars we had and farked it up.

All based on potential so far, we all know the Brooks potential saga. The bloke looks a million dollars in a Tigers line up that has about 7 genuine first graders in a squad of 30.

Still young so hopefully he turns into what we want him to be, has years of work to get through. His positioning is diabolical and is coasting through on his pure natural ability thus far.

Has attacking weapon written all over him, would be even better if he knew how to back up plays ala Hodgo

Wont be a good thing if he leaves a struggling club however i have a Galvin feeling about it. He's either for the team or for himself. Will know soon enough. Get in the roll or piss off.

yeah let’s NOT sign our fullback who is the most important attacking weapon on our team, and instead sign a 20 year old who’s played NRL for one year & for position he’s never played 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️
Marshall and Richardson will know exactly where they are at with Bula. He is one of our genuine stars and makes other players around him look good. I am amused when supporters want to place a value on a player. That value is determined by the market and there is a shortage of quality players let alone one with genuine pace and gamebreaking ability.

Well let’s just keep the team we have then.
Like the saying goes “ Why change what’s not broken”
Plenty of our supporters saw a Premiership winning side right before their eyes this season, some others myself included must have been missing something.

If we can sign him for $800,000 a season, just remember the cap goes up each year so , $800 in two years would be like $700 then
If he can be the main reason why we are regularly winning games, it wouldn’t matter how much we paid him.
The question is -
A) Is he a very good player that stands out in our team that has limited attacking weapons or
B) Is he a genuine star who will play an integral part in us winning regular games and almost certainly making the top 8 in 2026 and 2027.

If your answer is A then you probably wouldn’t be comfortable with him being paid anymore than 800k per season as it would limit our cap space to potentially sign or re-sign other high quality players.

If your answer is B then you are happy to pay whatever it takes to re-sign him.

The vast majority of our fans have the mindset that Jahream is clearly within our best 3-5 players, so we must keep him no matter what and build a stronger team around him.
That way of thinking is fine and it makes perfect sense to a certain degree, however if you look at it closely in regards to our estimated contract spend for 2027 including upgrades to players we want to keep long term, there is very little wiggle room out of a 12 million dollar salary cap for 2027 once we pay Jahream or any other fulllback up around 1 million dollars per season.
That means if we have very little wiggle room to add any other high quality players, we need to be highly confident the basis of the squad we already have will be good enough to highly likely make the top 8 and become a genuine premiership threat by 2027.
We have a young team with a close connection and plenty of scope for improvement so, this is possible it just depends how highly you rate the core group of players we currently have ?

Beginning to wonder if Bula's not the sharpest tool in the shed Winston or should I say Donald 😯.
Hodgo's been there all season we have all seen how good he was for us on his day surely there's been some individual training going on.

Is it going in one ear and out the other.

He really needs to be up in the line more in attack , benji should get a video of teddy and make him watch it every day till it sinks in , where he needs to be .

If we can perfect the play where we give Luai a bit of time and space, Samuela running the hard line with Jahream sweeping around the back, much like the line breaks and tries Sanuela scored late in the 2025 season and perfect it 4-6 times each game, our attack and our players involved would be much better for it.
And yes we need decent go forward and quick play the balls to allow this to happen, but we need to make do with virtually what we have as we are zero chance of recruiting a top class middle such as Payne Haas, Joe Tapine, Addin Fonua-Blake, James Fisher-Harris or Moses Leota.

Limited attacking weapons? I can think of 6 or 7.

To me Bula is more Dylan Edwards in his career trajectory then any other fullback

Edwards was hopeless the first 3 years in and out of first grade could not cerment a spot then around 50 games it started to click for him

Bula just past 50 games I think the next two years he will go to another level

And Dylan had no ball playing skills never passed it Bula is way in front of Dylan at the same stage

It’s my opinion that Jahream is a very good player, but not quite as good as Jaxon Purdue who is exceptional.
This opinion might be wrong, the next couple of seasons will go a long way to getting that answer.
You come across and read more of the media articles than any of us, which is a good thing as you often share that information on this forum for those who did not see or were not aware of it.
So you would have seen some recent media articles advising Jason Purdue is testing his value on the open market for 2027 and you would have seen the suggestions from rugby league identities much smarter than me suggesting Purdue will likely be looked at by quite a few clubs as a potential fullback based on his skill set and qualities within his game.

Bula is much quicker than Edwards, he also has a much better leap and more of an attacking threat under the high ball.
Edward’s strength has always been his competitiveness, aggressive style of play and his physicality particularly when running the ball.
I know what you are saying and its true that Edwards was nothing special during his first 3 seasons of playing NRL, but they have very different playing styles, so hard to compare them,

bula’s always had a sneaky kicking game, used it a few times this year.
No he hasn't. Kicking off the cuff for yourself when there is space is not the same as taking the ball to the line and finding a kick for a repeat set with pressure in your face and defenders in position. Nor has he shown any long kicking game, ever.
Perhaps he has it in him to develop one. But he has not demonstrated it as of yet.
