Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Do you know what the NRLW cap is...

Under $1.4m for a squad of 24, no player in the NRLW gets close to $250k, not even the biggest names.
Or we could do as other clubs like roosters and Broncos do. Pay a player 100k in the cap, then give them a job at the leagues club for 100k to do one shift.
There's barely a player at those two clubs who earns under 150k total. This is why they always dominate.

Why wouldn't they? A good club means they can enjoy their footy every week. What is the lifestyle difference between say 900K and 750K? If your lifestyle isn't changing wouldn't you want to take the option where you are enjoying your footy?
Add that potential additional football earnings increase being at a good club I.e. rep selection more likely and thus rep payments. As well as future earnings more likely if they are a premiership winner and rep player. Taking less in many cases is probably the better financial play.

I'd suggest it is foolish to think they wouldn't take less to play at a stronger club.

Alternatively, Everyone on here will tell you the answer is no they get TPAs, brown paper bags or shares in a pub or some other shit. And I'm not for a second going to say that doesn't ever happen but I'd guess it happens far less than it is suggested.

Very few 3rd parties are heavily investing in rugby league players. Why would they? What is their return on investment?
Most 3rd party deals are a crock of shit arranged by the club. They're not businesses genuinely hoping giving an athlete money will get them a marketing coup

A lot of people getting carried away on here with Bula. He's said he wants to stay and loves the club. We went to keep him. It's about money.
He's on 750k next season and neither he nor Moses will likely consider a pay cut. Moses no doubt wants 4x900k for 3.6 mil total, I could see us maybe offering 3.1 total. And even then that's over paying him.
He's not in the top 10 fullbacks in the comp. He hasn't shown any likelihood of improving thus far. He's still more or less the same player that he was a few years ago. He started out very strong defensively but offered little in attack
These days his defence is weak but his attack has improved.
Realistically he's quite similar to someone like Kennedy. Kennedy was on 600k and will likely be on no less than 450k next season. No way a later halves their value whilst in their prime. He's about as good as Bula, just older.

Bula is not a game breaker. He doesn't havea high work rate. He can't kick out playmake. He doesn't have strong acceleration. What he did against Cook Islands is irrelevant. On his current ability he's about a 650k player at best. I'm sure Richo doesn't want to over pay him, hence the current standoff.

No one will offer him more than 800k. He just hasn't earned that money. I still think he may end up on a wing if we could find a top notch fullback

I'm not sure if it is Brett Hodgson's influence but Bula has an excellent passing game and he plays as a second 5/8. Turuva did a great job at fullback when Bula was injured but what was noticeable was the lack of ball playing. This is crucial to our attack and one of the reasons he is so valued. Bula's speed is deceptive as he glides across the field and can slice his way through a defence. Once in the clear I cannot recall too many times he has been pulled down from behind. Bula is one of one of our best now. I am a big believer in quality players injecting themselves into a game when instinctively they know there is an opportunity. I don't place a value on players like Bula because it is the market which determines his value which I'm sure Richardson and Marshall well know.

Can u come up with any more, not saying he is a bad defender, he just seems to grab, and need to see a better work rate
I haven't watched enough of him to say any different just pointing out that he can be aggressive in defence. If he is not doing it consistently is it laziness, poor coaching? - who knows

Which suggest you need glasses
Good argument

I wouldnt memtion it if i hadnt seen him throughout the year just standing there when he couldve helped in defense....posting his numbers and comparing to one other player in the comp when theres 50 or 60 backrowers running around means nothing

How so?

I think Fainu and KPP look well suited as a combination. Fainu looks to have far more subtlety playing to a lead runner where as AD likes to play long. Fainu has the acceleration to push through the line from an offload, AD does not (though far better top speed).

I don't see KPP and AD looking naturally suited to each other. I see a fair argument that AD should be the 7 but playing styles I don't see them naturally gelling.

Ok how about that he made more tackles on average then every other backrower in the comp.

Now off you head to get those glasses. 1001 optometry in Burwood are a great bunch if you need some direction.

Why is the "wing" seen as a consolation prize?
Honestly, you cross for more tries. Get a guy like Brett Morris or Alex Johnson or Taniela Tukali and they become a score machine.

I get it too. Wing's after 29 (bar many of the above) are not valued* because they won't outrace their younger colleagues. Far better to be a fullback or center if you want to be still playing.

Otherwise, some of your fullbacks IMHO would be absolute monsters on the wing. Walsh, Pappenheusen, etc.

*unless you are stupid like Lee H. I mean 500k for 5 years you idiot.

guessing this is about KPP.

Between him and Terrell, they should go gangbusters. That said supercoach wise 2x workhorses usually means their workrate will drop a little.

The scramble has worked as a defense strategy for us in the past. I do think your top 4 teams wise up pretty quickly that people are out of position now and go through you.

Fullback is a position ideally suited for dynamic players. Wing is best suited to solid players with one or two outstanding attributes.

There's a reason that players like Walsh will never, ever play wing. They're just too small to defend in the line, won't be able to make metres consistently and will get monstered in the air.
