Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

You are a man after my own heart. I lived in Jland for many years, played some rugby and had hand in development with the JRL. Im a Subaru guy, along with Kawasaki when it comes to GP. Absolute candy land if you are into J spec, I built some mean WRX cars via a few of the race shops, even imported one many years ago. The Honda scene is immense! Seen a few races at Montegi, what a circuit but plenty at Okayama International, it was basically up the road from my place. I get back every few years for some decent ramen, Autobacs, races and a few beers with old mates. Amazing country, amazing culture.
XL 500 wow, thats a beast. Made them bulletproof back in the day. Im cruising a Yamaha MT09 these days, fun and easy to whip around. Lower back has cancelled out the race bikes haha!
Forgot the XL500. like me it ain't pretty but has never broken down since1979. Running an 84 XL front end on it now. Drum brake doesn't cut it anymore.
I'm no Cecill B DeMille but video here:

I told you Purdue was an elite fullback in waiting long ago.
As I said at the time, Bula is a good player but would be well behind Purdue in the pecking order for every club wanting to upgrade their fullback.
Jaylan De Groot is one of the best young fullbacks in the NRL and the second quickest player in behind Saab. Imo looks better than Purdue and they also have Kini and Brimson.

Bula is an outstanding talent we need to remember playing fullback at WTs is very different than doing so at the Roosters, the Storm or even the Cowboys.

Do you believe every rumour on the Internet ?

Based on what I’ve heard from their management …I think Faalogo will be their fullback in 2026 ..they have groomed him for the position… plus he is a Victorian junior and I know they are keen to promote that

Not saying tax can't be reduced for those who can afford a knowledgeable accountant but for the average punter many countries have reciprocal tax arrangements. If the ATO deems you haven't paid enough tax in say Japan, they bill you. Know this from experience.
Japan still has death duties. They will try to tax Japanese even if they live in Australia and all assets are in Australia.
Mate, I worked at the ATO a long time ago and did some work in the double tax and international agreements area. It's not difficult. If your domicile and the point of earnings are outside Australia and have no link to Australia you don't pay tax in Australia.
So if you're considered a non-resident for tax purposes only your Australian-sourced income will be taxed in Australia. I've got a couple of mates who are finance execs on that massive NEOM project in Saudi Arabia and their earnings are tax-free in Saudi and Australia.

Jaylan De Groot does look to be very quick, but doesn’t appear to have much variety in his game just yet.
Why is playing fullback for Wests Tigers different from playing fullback at other clubs ?
Whether it’s Bula or someone else, we need our fullback to be a regular dominant attacking weapon capable of be be difference maker to win us games, particularly close games on a regular basis.
If Bula is the man to fit that description than let’s get his contract signed or if not we need to find someone who can fit that description.

The Storm are ruthless, they don’t care where the player comes from they will do all within their power to sign who they believe are the best players available, particularly the match winners within their spine and dominant forwards to lay the platform.

I don’t know much about him, but when you rise to prominence within the Panthers junior system and play plenty of rep footy along the way, that generally fits the description of someone with a fair bit of talent,
I watched a couple of highlights clips of him in 2024, he looks quick and agile, so looks a good prospect.

I
Now I follow you. I think we were looking at it from different perspectives. My gut feel is that we are trying to create a player that can act as a link to allow Latu/Luai a bit more width. The FG rready/expereinced option seems to poit to AD with Bird as next man up. I'm not sure if Murray is still contracted to us, but if he is he could also do a job but probably doesn't have the passing game/strength I think we are looking for going forward at NRL level.

Roberts is an exciting prospect and probably has the motor to make it as a 13 - not sure of Rahme's endurance. If we want to grow an internal option we needed to identify the candidates prior to the off season so they are already working on developing themselves in the right direction.
I Think we need to temper expectations with Roberts somewhat. From the game I've seen him play he reminds me of Steve Trindall, Chris Paterson. Big and slow, minimal impact and low work rate.

Maybe he was injured or lost motivation after announcing his departure but he was very average for the chooks. Just doesn't have the aggression or heart to take it to the next level.

Let's see if Benji can light his fire

Perdue grew up playing in the half’s. I’d say they are looking at him as a Munster replacement since he is likely to go to the bears.
Munster has 2 years left. He has to break his contract to sign with the Bears or wait till Nov1 next year. Possibly still but it would depend on a release from Melbourne (I guess which they have recently set a precedent for). Perdue to left centre, Howorth to Left back row, Blore I reckon could be shifted on.

I find it hard to believe Purdue will go there to play Center …he will likely have a couple of options that might be better

Will Craig was talked about in good light a few years ago. Not ever seen him play I can’t comment but I ask this. How did he go this year. Has he been carrying injury. What are his strengths and weaknesses.
I ask this because I haven’t seen any context for why they believe he’s not worthy
He played Ron Massey when fit. Towards end of the season after a few injuries and promotions he played wing in Flegg. Was ok. Scored a few in the corners. But he's essentially a fringe flegg player. Small and zippy but too weak to play against men.
