Roster Breakdown: 2024-2029

you would think Jared Hayward would be given a go next year since hes the future
I hope we bring him along progressively and don't throw him into the deep end too early until his body is physically ready. He is half turned hooker so doesn't have the biggest frame & was found out a few times 1-on-1 against bigger bodies this season in Flegg. It's nothing that time for growth, diet, gym won't fix. Personally I hope he starts the season in Flegg and then works his way into NSW Cup with his minutes increased over time in that grade. Maybe some NRL cameos in the pre-season trials & at the back-end of the season off the pine if his form justifies it.

I think he could leapfrog straight into Cup off the back of a good preseason, but as you say it'll depend on his physical growth and game development.

going to be really interesting to see the minute share with Tristan Hope when the time comes.

super excited to see how he comes along next year tho. he's a good'un.

I'm keen for us to have a bigger body/solid defender at 9 working with Api..... for mine TDS was too small and so is Api, he tends to get run over in defence too often, I love him in attack though and that is the trade off with him. Would be nice to have your Twal's, and Terrells in the middle when Api is on, then bring on a bigger body stronger defensive 9 and you can switch the middles to Pole's and Royce that way the 9 picks up the defensive slack.

This is our squad in 2027 based on the current contracts

1. Bula
2. Turuva
3. Toa
4. Taylan
5. Makasini
6. Luai
7. Latu

8. Pole
9. Haywood/Api
10. Terrell
11. Samuela
12. KPP
13. Douhei

14. Api/Haywood
15. Seyfarth
16. Twal
17. Taupua Moors

18. Goodinet
19. Madden
20. Roberts

So between now and then, we can to sign 10 players.

Not a bad foundation to be honest - considering all these younger players will have another season under heir belt.

we need at least 4-5 new players that are nrl standard
most of that team is very avg and the youngsters have to start showing potential and the older guys have to also show something

who would you rather as backup hooker in 2026. Zac Dockar-Clay, Siliva Havili or Danny Levi. All are off contract.

I wouldnt be against signing Levi but we do have Hope signed for 2026 too. Hope hasnt thrilled me but I suppose as a second string hooker he would do, unless we could unload him elsewhere in the off season. Not much point with having a third one on the top 30 spots unless it was the State Cup contract I suppose.
And in NSW Cup, we will have Josese Lanyon progressing as a lock / hooker utility and Jared Haywood could catapult to any level next season (moreso season after). Charlie Murray is handy lock/hooker utility & who knows what the plans are for Jock Madden (he could easily slot into dummy half for cameos if required).

In that case no real need but gee, Id love for Hope to have some utility skills

Since it is bloody quiet, I've had a crack at creating what I think is Benji's depth chart for our NRL squad and who his priority development & pathways players may be.

Obviously the pathways rep squads haven't been announced yet so a few players may come in to or out of this chart.

The NRL & NRL Depth columns are out of those players currently in the NRL Top 30 and some additional Development and T&T players.

The Development Priority are those youngsters the club has on a Development contract or has promoted them through the grades or CUBS squads faster than others from what I have seen in '25.

The Development Depth are those likely to be given a Jersey Flegg opportunity in '26 and arguably prioritised lower than the others.

The SG Ball Priority are those 18/19yos who will likely start the year in SG Ball but are those likely to be pushing for a training or playing opportunity in Flegg through the season based on their own form & injuries/progression of those in Flegg.

* These are the 4 guys who IMO are pick of the crop likely to play SG Ball and will be fast tracked into Flegg all going well with them.

Great analysis and shows that we are on the way to developing a next man system. Still a couple of holes to fill, espacially at 13.

Gun post.

Looks decent too.

Thanks @Jolls I think the club has earmarked Havea Jr as the long-term answer (2028 & beyond) and were pleasantly surprised with how new recruit Josese Lanyon performed at lock in Flegg this year. Lanyon could be a bolter for 2027 as that lock (dummy half utility) - he's got the tools, just needs to develop more physically now.

Doing projects like this shows us how good our depth is across positions. The club just has to get their senior development right now and be able to retain them.

Possibly the weakest position looking at this table is centre but hoping we can retain Glassie Glassie away from the clutches of rugby union. Then at Harold Matts bottom age level next year we have the very highly rated centre Monson Hopoate coming through.
