HBG, Independent Directors Sacked

Purely hypothetical question, Steve. Would you be happy if Laundy bought HBG out and restored Balmain Tigers to primacy and relegated the Magpies to also rans or even non-events?
As I said purely hypothetical and not looking to start WW3.

Judging by many of the comments on here it seems most people would be ok with that outcome, but to me it would be silly to go completely the opposite way.

We don't want to alienate the Wests side that just follow Wests Tigers.

For me three options for namesake, keep it Wests Tigers or straight out Tigers or a left field suggestion Southwest Tigers to align with our junior base, might get more commitment from players in the catchment.

I thought so too initially … but he is quoted as saying there is a price tag, plan and buying group in place , and the story reads like it came from him …. Surely he has better things to do with his time then go on a media wild goose chase ?

Yeh fair call. Most of us I think, with the exception of a few rusted on diehards, want the WT to be our club, I’m happy to respect the legacies of our foundation clubs but no more than that.

To understand why those 2 HBG members weren’t sacked, go back to the so called independent internal review and the HBG’s eagerness to show they had agreed to all the reviews recommendations.
There were a few posters here who were skeptical. But not those who had taken notice of their previous examples of management. They simply believed that their positions of authority could influence outcomes. They who cannot be sacked, who have a reputation for sacking, found themselves unable to convince others . Now that is demoralising and cause for a ruthless over the top response.
Another reason they weren’t sacked is because they were Magpies warriors.
Think what you like though, we all have an opinion on the reason for their stupidity.

Paton is the only human in the NRL community who thinks that sacking the four independents wouldn't effect Shane Richardson and Benji Marshall - let alone players and their managers. If that doesnt demonstrate that he and his people are not reading the room, don't care, and or have other priorities to seeing WTs thrive I don't know what does.

Don’t agree. No-one here supports HBG. We are forced to accept their involvement because we have no choice if we want to support WT. if you feel strongly enough about HBG, you stop supporting WT. I’m not prepared to do that.
You’re jumping the gun a little. Nothing has happened with Richo or Benji and no players have moved on or refused to sign.
Time will tell whether this will have deeper ramifications, I’m sure we all sincerely hope it doesn’t.

So the liquor and gaming board investigate where a board is not looking after the interest of members.

Surely continuing having to hand over the members money via settlements to people that are sacked because positions are reversed or given the opportunity to sue due to the incompetency of those that have made the decision.

The club members should vote to remove indemnity from directors for decisions that they are not qualified to make where they do not seek expert advice. Some would be less keen to exert influence if it was their own money they were risking

Board members do not have indemnity. It is the board members responsibility to request all the information they need to make the correct decision. There is board member insurance, however this protects them only from any financial impact. They can be excluded from sitting on a board as a director if they are proven to be negligent.

Look I’m guessing like everybody else but I think it’s possible that the four independent board members will be replaced by four new independent members or a combination of existing and new independents.
In my opinion that is in the best interests of the club.
If I believe Paton and I tend to believe him the real issue was communication and overreach by the WT board into decisions they were not authorised to make. I wonder how well the agreement was documented that told the WT board what decisions it had control of and what decisions it should refer up. I suspect it was badly drafted and a source of confusion for all.
The only think I’m still totally confused about it what the hell the two HBG members on the WT board were doing. Surely they must have known the WT board they were sitting on were exceeding their brief.
If anyone deserved to be sacked it was those two.

perhaps this is a ploy to destroy Dennis Burgess...as he was the HBG representative on the WT board, and he is the chair of HBG.....could another coup be on the cards? BOF's comment that there are people looking to make their way up the ladder at HBG could explain this.

If that was the case, it's just another reason in a long list to get rid of them, just backs up the case that HBG are a viper's nest and Wests Tigers is not their top priority.

I accept all that, but let me add there is a difference between Wests Magpies coming back as they were pre merger, and the Wests Tigers changing their name and emblem but remaining the same in every other respect. So Leichhardt games would remain, a Tiger on the sleeve etc - maybe even a Balmain heritage game every season 🤷‍♂️

This would probably also be unacceptable to old Balmain types, but you get my distinction from a total take over.

Don’t think too hard about it, we’ll all be worshiping the Tiger for a long time to come. Alternatively you could decide to opt out, no hard feelings if that’s what you want to do.

As I said in an earlier post, it can’t hurt if hundreds of us complained online to L&G about how the club is run. They would fail fit and proper persons at the very least given the decision making of the past 18 months
