Fishing Thread

Sorry no photos.
Went out with a mate today and caught not much till about 12:30 and then it was busy. I got instantly done three times by ooglies, then I finally won some line against the fourth oogly, only to fight it for 1/2 hour and then break off.
Meanwhile my mate landed a meter plus, 20kg cobia followed by a GT of unknown weight.
I stooged along with a 50cm tea leaf trevally, then an 85cm tea leaf, and a 1m cobia.
He well and truly won bragging rights for the day, but we both came home with some tucker.

I thought I'd heard every fishing term .....never heard of oogly ??

Ooglies is a term I inherited from a friend I used to fish with in Darwin Harbour. Anything big, and generally slow, that refuses to come near the surface or behave in an otherwise identifiable way, and that invariably breaks you off.
I used to call those types of fish buckets, similar to trying to bring in a bucket full of water, no air.

Nice work...

How do u cook em up???

Not known as a good eating fish TBH
Quite good to eat that's a bit of a fallacy, you need to keep them live in a catchers net and clean live, makes all the difference.

To cook I like them cut into pieces battered and cooked in oil or my favourite in a coconut cream massaman currie, oh boy my mouth is watering.

Nice creel RHS. They are great eating when bled and consumed fresh. Motored south of your abode last week to CHB. Massive fog hit us early on off South Caves. We pulled up 300 metres off the coal loader. Scored some undersize kings in close. Went a bit wider when the sun rose and the fog lifted for some platey reds. We trolled back and picked up 4 undersize dollies and some nice legal bonnies in 35 metres of water off Caves Beach. Water temp was 25.6 degrees but I was surprised to pick up the dollies in so close. Finally scored a pair of 60+cm lizards off the back of Moon Island. Home before midday. Lovely morning in near glass off conditions.
