LIVE GAME Round 2 v Cowboys

Live Game Discussion
Brain dump.

I just checked, and the ref missed what should have been 10 in the bin in the first few minutes - there were 3 x 6 agains in the one movement.

It also looks like the team was practising set pieces in the off season. A few of those moves from the scrum looked top notch. There was one scrum that was called back but our boys were so confident they simply ran the same play again.

Terrell was solid without standing out. I thought he was punching the line a bit more today. I love when he gets the ball in his hands during broken and the way play he treats it like a game of touch. Its only a matter of time before he puts someone through a hole or scores himself.

I will eat my words, Royce Hunt actually had an impact. I am still not convinced, but he looked better than last year thats for sure.

Samuela is a beast and only getting better. Sign him up ASAP.

KPP, 2 metre ball playing backrower with an offload. What that an astute signing... at what like 600k?

Douhei played at the line without fear. Latu has alot of catching up to do if hes going to replace him. His try was a result of his persistence testing the line.

Jarome looks back to his best and a far better 6 than 7. Id take him over Galvin anyday.

Turuva... I didnt know he had it in him to play centre so well.

Twal had one of the best games I've ever seen him play.

Api... to think there were people here were wanting to push tds in ahead of him. Today he showed us why hes paid what he is.

Skelton, i thought he was great. We should be resigning him for the right price asap..hes solid and sure can score a try.

Seyfarth did a job, I think he will play some of his best footy this year coming off the bench this year.

Makasini was never going to live up to the hype of the panthers match, but he didnt look out of place. I am suprised a kid so young has been up to it.

Bula did his job despite some of the criticism here... today it proved to me that no matter if he intends to be here in 2028 or not, we activate that clause for 27... we would be absolutely stupid to let him go.

Pole does a job, but I didn't notice him much. He and Royce hunt had very similar stats.

Lukey boy, theres something electric about him... I see why he was selected... its just the errors.

Sionie, didnt really notice him. Similar to Pole, probably just did a job..

Taylan May, only played 15 mins but we know he is the goods.

FMD - what a game.

Pole was gassed after 10mins and he was ineffective with the ball. Just looked off the pace all game. If he is to start each week needs to pick his game up.

Hunt was alot more effective in his time on the park and looked good, at least bent the line and created space.

Bula was bog ordinary, lacked speed and cohesion in the spine. His work rate isn’t even close to the best fullbacks in the comp. Needs to pick his game up.

Skelton should be picked always infront of Luke, it shouldn’t be a question.

Yeah but to be fair he started on the wing ahead of Skelton, and Skelton got an opportunity today due to May's injury and outperformed Luke. So it's not just dropping the kid without seeing his direct competitor outshine him. I'd prefer a more specialist centre cover Taylan next week against Latrell
I dunno , I know he’s got the dropsies , but it seems more nervous energy than the kid can’t catch . When he feels like he belongs he’s going to be a handful

Just finished watching it back.

We've clearly worked on scrum plays.

Laulilii try before half time.
Bula's giving Jarome the look right before he feeds the scrum. Bula passes to Luai. Makasini lines up to get the ball, drawing in a defender, but runs the decoy and Luai passes to Bula, whl has looped all the way around after feeding the scrum, to create the overlap, and proceeds to draw in the winger, and times the pass perfectly for Laulilii to finish.

Skelton try in 71st minute.
Douhei feeds the scrum. Api picks it up from lock, douhei has pushed out to run the overs line, but Api passes to Turuva who is running the unders line. Turuva sucks in some defenders and offloads to douhei who puts skelton away in the corner.
** if douhei could get wider a bit faster, he would have the overlap to set skelton up, straight off api.

2mins to go - didnt work.

Bula feeds the scrum. Siones at lock and throws a long ball to Douhei. Bula runs around the back again behind douhei, douhei has either turuva on the unders line but throws to skelton in a long cut out running the overs..
** this one didnt work because the cowboys scrum broken and sprinted toward that sideline. It was actually really good scramble from them.

Makasini was a rock in defence . Saved 2 tries on the line with one on ones against Luki. lol he’s 18 … it’s crazy

And bait Cody all night long ,, tell him he can’t fight his way out of a paper bag, seems to always take the bait and lash out and go right off his game
I think we will. Our team are annoying pests lol. Doueihi kicking the ball away to slow them down at 44-16, Luai got under their skin, Turuva too. It's good to see, especially now that there is a bit of size and physicality to back it up a little more.
Huge test next week as today's game was trial like from the cows.

I think you have to race Toa back in . I love Turuva but I think tell would give him a bath. KPP Will handle Fifita IMO . I actually think it will be the other way around . I can see our forward second phase killing guys like Fifita . He was very lazy in defence last night . After all these years he still hasn’t fixed it .
Best edge running forward I’ve ever seen when he’s on form . But just soo uncommitted in defence generally .
outside of fifita I think tigers have it all over the souths pack
latrell scares the hell out of me in that backline however

I'd have Makasini marking him. No one's going to get stuck into the kid if Latrell shows him up. The alternative is that Makasini holds his own.

Why do we need to change anything apart from a bench spot? It worked today. Tiny is tough it might be a stinger i hope. The team i thought were excatly that, a TEAM. We played like it. We did get the rubb yes about [This word has been automatically removed]ING time. Sorry for swearing. Had to let it out.

He's got potential, but I would say he doesn't get picked today unless Skelton was injured during the trials.

Skelton in and Luke in the 19 for me, but understand your coming from a more emotional angle.

Fantastic effort today.
Yes, the Cowboys were bad. But we still had to beat them, which he haven't done in a while.
And we dominated, which is rare.

A bit concerned about the times we let them get a roll-on. And the wings regularly looked outnumbered. Though AD and Luai were exceptional in cover.

What I really liked were the formations in attack and constantly going for it. It looked like something could be on at any time. Credit to Benji - the team looked up for it. Great energy and belief.

Really liked Royce's contribution.

The leadership of Luai was very visible today. He was outstanding.

There were a few sets where it seemed we were going through the motions. Understandable, as it's our first hit-out, though it's unlikely other opposition teams will be as forgiving.
There are clearly areas to look at and players who need to improve, but can't complain too much when you see the team gelling and in a thrashing.

Better test next week.
