The Wighton penalty

It was a very weak refereeing decision. I've come to accept that these sorts of calls happen to us more than others.

I thought the missed set restart for the infringement on Twal in the first 5 minutes had more of an impact on the game than the Wighton penalty. It was all down hill from there.

I guess the positive is that we only lost by below average.

The one where Makasini put his hand on his back when getting back to marker? If so, it was rightly a penalty and Benji needs to call him out on it for relieving the pressure.

Different opinion.
He didnt put weight on him and there were one of those hands on the players every set - yet they werent called as penalties? It was only given because wighton exaggerated it like a soccer player.

Should definitely have been 6 again. Only reason I can see why not is Twal taking himself away from playing the ball and chasing the defender. Doesn't change it should still have been 6 again but makes it look a bit like they were both mucking about rather than Twal specifically being delayed from the others actions.

Yeah I remember the play. Looked pretty soft on the replay. There was dud calls on both sides to be honest.

The ref did not decide that game. Our woeful attack did.

Masi was bounced about tonight ,should feel a bit more comfortable next week up against more of a peer in the opposite number ,wouldn't mind if Benjie rested him in reserves the week after

We can't keep doing this Amatuer night stuff.
The game was ours, yes Latrell Mitchell was grubby. But we gave away crazy soft tries early (as we have done on other games).

2 tries gone for nothing in the first 20 minutes, almost every game in 2026 by us.

Benji has his work cut out.

I think woeful is tough,we were getting smoked and fought our way back into a position where we could have won, hardly woeful.

The ref did not decide that game. Our woeful attack did.

Our woeful Non defense in the first 20 minutes decided the game.

Yes Api lost at sea when he was in open space did not help.
I mean of all our players, if he said "Guys I am just tired of putting in 100% and everyone else turning up, I am gone". I would totally understand.

Yet several games we have been conceding 2ish tries early. Maybe our team needs to warm up harder or be more alert at the start. We can't switch off like this.

On the upside we were getting blown away. Fought our way back into the game and realistically should have won it.

We got some horrendous calls ,( the Wighton dive was ridiculous and swung momentum)but still hung in there and could have won even without our 6 and 7.

Royce Hunt went within an inch of scoring and that would have made it 20-12 with about ten to go.

I know it’s disappointing but at least they had a go under extreme duress against a supposed top 8 side away from home and only just lost.

No one was anywhere near him and that half witted shiney faced ref fell for it.

Late in the tackle count and we had the momentum.

And then they had it.I knew once he started giving souffs soft penalties we couldn't win it.

And don't start me on Jye Gray faking head knocks the little cheat.

Agree. That was disgraceful. However what annoys me more is how we never challenge. There were 2 calls in a row, the Wighton one and then another one and both wpuld have been overturned if we challenged. Not good enough...just plain dumb

In the first 3 minutes the ref let go a blatant 6 to go, then penalised us 2 tackles later, then missed a shepherd on the next set of 6. Gray then scored. Yes I know Luai's miss is the most important thing here,I acknowledge that. However to start the game with 2 shocking decisions that gave Souths that chan e isnt good enough. The missed 6 to go was as blatant as you get.

This one didnt bother me as much. I thought it was the type of game we'd usually lose by 40. In the end it was a 4 point loss to a team who will also be on the fringe of the 8. Will it matter come round 27? Maybe. But we have plenty of time to make up for it... We are still 5th. The next few weeks is going to be tough though.
