Alex Twal #206

This guy just continues to put egg all over 90% of people on this forum's collective faces.
The plodder, the guy that wouldn't play NRL at any other club, the waste of a top 30 spot.

Twal has delivered from day 1 at this club without any appreciation from the fans.

If Origin is picked on form Twal is the first middle picked. Nobody has outperformed him.
Yeah I always rated him for being a reliable defensive workhorse. Always did his job with very little mistakes. A side of rugby league that’s not as appreciated or witnessed by the fans.

This year though he’s gone to a new dimension in attack, running with a lot more grunt and ball playing a little bit as well (try assist to Roycey yessir 🫡). And he’s playing the full 80 as well and looking just as good throughout the whole game.

It’s clear fitness standards throughout the club have gone through the roof and it’s not just the ability to keep playing the 80 but also at a much higher level as well.

As for Origin I’ve not watched many other teams play but he’s got to be one of the best options going around, probably 2nd after Jackson Ford who’s killing it as well, and honestly Twally could probably start with his defensive capabilities before some more impact players come on.

However, I’d rather we keep our players during this period if we can and can’t see the selectors going past big name out of form players like AFB

Anyway, full credit to the boys

I said last year he could be the new skando... Like an honest, battle hardened pro who becomes pretty decent just through raw experience and conditioning later in a career.

But this has taken on it's own category. What he's doing in WT history right now is totally distinct and hasn't been done before. He's gone beyond comparisons with anyone else. I've never seen a forward come alive like this at this scale late in a career.

It's not form. It's a totally different player.

I go back a long way in this game …and I can’t recall a 150 game player take the leap he has … he has gone from average at best to top 10 percent … I’m sure it’s happened before but once a decade at best …

his defense has always been immense and even in our spoon years he would lock up the middle and then we would fall apart when he was off. This year his attack and his fitness seem to have significantly improved to make him an all-round player. If not for Murray and Yeo he would be my first pick for that origin 13, no no-nonsense game and you know you can rely on him 100%.

@batboy

Watching live, I saw him sprint off the line to put a hit on, and I think the ball runner ran back at the markers. I watched expecting him to be slow on the next play. He deadset floated back to the defensive line and was up again on the next play. This was mid-late second half. Incredible fitness.

Heard Matty Johns say this morning he has heard around NRL playing community, the 2 hardest working players are Farnworth and Twal. Never rest, always looking to improve something.

always liked Twally , one of the real guys who even in loosing teams still tried hard , he is playing very well and so is the team so it makes it that much more enjoyable for us to watch and for Alex to be a part of , always in my 17 , should play SOO on current form , but Daley is the coach and he could not pick his nose correctly , right now we should loose , API , Luai , Twally , May Snr to SOO but we won’t and so be it top 4 or 6 more important now than ever before , Wests Tigers are coming to get ya

Maybe not the widely held view.
Twally hasn't been as ordinary as people make out. 3 changes this year

- with regular concussions and niggles, he seemed to struggle after a break, especially with leg speed and pcm. He has always been a decent metre eater when in form and match fit.

- using the shoulder more regularly and generally more aggressive in D....thia started last year and better this year

- People used to post stuff like "Twal just through his first ever pass", problem being, once that is posted 150 times we are actually up to 150 passes. The frequency and quality is up but it isnt from zero, it is from a few offloads a year and a role for the last 2 or 3 seasons of doing a bit of distributing from 13.

Worth repeating, frequency and quality is up, im not saying He has always been this good, but he was never that bad either. Go back over the years and look at 3, 2, 1 on the forum and he features several times a seasons in wins and losses as clear contender for motm.
