Not sure we know about the closeness of the playing group, but I wholeheartedly agree with the rest. Terrific post.I agree with the sentiments of many on here that it does diminish the value of a lot of the “my team” rhetoric that Luai had been stating since he got here. It is a little disappointing that the playing group may not quite be as close as advertised.
However, from a purely team list perspective, I genuinely think this is the ideal situation. When we signed Luai we had to pay a premium to get him, 5 years at 1.2 million is well over his on field production. What we needed was a circuit breaker, a culture changer, something to get us moving in the right direction. In that regard he has been perfect and we only had to pay him the premium price for 3 years. His last two years were always going to be massive overpays in my opinion.
This could play out perfectly. It really is now up to HBG and Mielekamp to prove they are the leaders they demanded to be. I believe we have a great coach, a strong core and a huge amount of young talent. Need to lock them down and make sure they see the direction that Luai helped start.
I personally am optimistic this could turn out as a net positive.
Apparently the man has to have his own presser. You can’t say the guy doesn’t have an ego.Now its out shouldn't the club - WTs - be making a statement?
Why wouldn't he? Hes a business guy. If they see out their contracts and can double even triple their wages whilst trying to raise a family in sydney, how does anyone begrudge that? Not sure ..but he won’t be giving his “blessing “ if those guys leave
Hope not - I want a coach that is competitive and wants to win at all costs.I assume benji will give anyone who wants to go his blessing.
Its a once in a lifetime opportunity
Who cares man … why are people so butt hurt ?
People are forgetting they’re not going to be able to Jam Pack players in . They will be hamstrung by existing valuations of players . So eg. If Kenny is on 600k now , they can’t sign him for less than. What I’m getting at is there won’t be any dodgy Hunt signing for 500k rubbish .It's decent without being amazing.
Looks like a regular NRL team tbf
I may be wrong but my mates a player agent they are waiting until November 1 to use PNG to drive up the market. If be surprised if anyone signs during the season league wide unless the deal is in their favour. Can I just say, Luai didn’t make the decision to sign with PNG over night. Obviously it is one he has been deliberating for a while. Whilst timing isn’t great, it’s a call be needed to make by the cut-off which he can’t control.
Otherwise, if he is contracted for next year, he couldn’t sign with them til November which might have compromised his deal.
Props to Luai for making this such a quick and easy process as opposed to dragging it out.
It will be interesting to see the press conference tomorrow. I think WT might have contributed to his departure and given their encouragement. Perhaps some re-signings are dependent on cap space and Luai leaving?
Wouldn’t surprise me if a mass re-signing of either the May’s or Fainu’s is announced in the near future.
You would think so but clearly it's all about Luai ..... Let the show roll on .....Now its out shouldn't the club - WTs - be making a statement?
Yep - the new incumbent King of PNG. Alex Johnston must have a bit of the "What About Me" going on.Apparently the man has to have his own presser. You can’t say the guy doesn’t have an ego.
I think u and I are on the same planet and everyone else is in a diff one lolIf we re-sign the may brothers, turuva, and bula, i'm all in.
But history would suggest we lose them all.
Yep, it won't be the Aus team lining up in a chiefs jersey.People are forgetting they’re not going to be able to Jam Pack players in . They will be hamstrung by existing valuations of players . So eg. If Kenny is on 600k now , they can’t sign him for less than. What I’m getting at is there won’t be any dodgy Hunt signing for 500k rubbish .
Or eg, registering Martin for 600k when his valuation is 800k . So whilst there will definitely be players leaving obviously , the nrl won’t register those contracts .
Basically if a guy is on 800k now he will be registered at 800k there at least . So they won’t be able to stockpile starters from position 18-22.
and I’m certain the PM of PNG has set the fact that a lot of the squad will be PNG players . I honestly think it will probably be 21 Aussies … a the rest PNG players .
You never will . Drinkwater just signed for the dragons . 18 players have signed for Perth . Like 5 Melbourne players .Honestly. It's awful.
Even in ultra-capitalist EPL land, you can't have a contract with a new club if you are still serving with your current one.
We should not be having this conversation now. Can I please have a season where my players are just focused on playing for my club??
I would assume tomorrows presser is all about Luai committing to give his all this year and next.Honestly. It's awful.

I dont understand why wed have a lot of PNG kids?Us mate .
1.2 mill a year is hardly struggle st in Sydney... He is also guaranteed a lucrative post playing media gig..... People trying to make out he is a poorper living under the poverty line on minum wage .....Why wouldn't he? Hes a business guy. Probably a carbon copy of the one he had when he announced he was coming here. Great opportunity, financial security blah blah blah.I would assume tomorrows presser is all about Luai committing to give his all this year and next.
It’s not the Australian government’s $600m, it’s our $600m and it’s outrageous they can even do thatI think the incentive coincides with the Australian government 10 year, $600 million support. It's been widely reported.
We'll see, what happens, maybe you're right and it is only one year...I have no government tax ruling for you if that's what you're asking for. None of this happens for another 2 years, but generally speaking, if you go overseas and become a tax resident of another country, you pay the local tax rate...PNG are offering a rate of 0%. Why would he be on the hook for Australian taxes? Do Warriors players pay Australian taxes?
