Middlesbrough and Southampton could not be separated as a fascinating first leg of their Championship play-off somehow finished goalless.

After the build-up was spiced up by accusations of Saints spying on a Boro training session, the home side completely dominated the first half.

They had 17 shots to none from the visitors and came closest when Tommy Conway struck the inside of the post.

Saints improved after the break and could even have pinched victory late on when captain Taylor Harwood-Bellis thundered a header against the bar.

But with no goals scored, it is set up to be decided at St Mary's in the second leg on Tuesday.

Hull City and Millwall played out a goalless draw in a physical first leg of their Championship play-off semi-final at the MKM Stadium.

The home side nearly scored inside the first two minutes when forward Mo Belloumi cut in from the left and hit a shot at a tight angle that hit the outside of the near post.

Camiel Neghli's long-range effort skimmed the post on its way wide as the Lions pushed for an opener, and Oli McBurnie was not quite able to make a solid connection on a Yu Hirakawa cross down the other end as the game opened up in the final 20 minutes.

Femi Azeez tested Hull goalkeeper Ivor Pandur after coming in off the right and Ryan Leonard did have the ball in the net for the visitors in the final five minutes, but it was ruled out for a foul by Tristan Crama on Charlie Hughes.

The two teams meet at The Den in the second leg on Monday.

Not sure how many ppl read this thread. But Boro mean a lot to me. I grew up in Campbelltown in the 90s but by dad was born in Middlesbrough in 1944. -- I now live in europe -- Im a Westie bogan and a BORO fan.

The game I watched today. Was probbably the most frustrating 90 minutes of football I've ever watched ever. I don't think there is a possible comparison in rugby league. 10 men playing the best games of their lives when it really mattered ruined by a terrible hopeless forward called Tommy Conway.

It was extraordinary. -- Like, imagine a red hot wests tigers side in a preliminary final and the same player bombed 3 tries to seal the game. I honestly have never seen anything like it.

Supporting BORO and Wests Tigers, I'm a masochist.

Champion @TIGERS, mate all your passion for the BORO and the Wests Tigers mirrors all of us here on the forum.
Our location is just a place on the map.
Where we each are is within our spirit, for all the boys in the teams we bleed for.
The Conway moments today happen.
The jersey goes on.
Hope is always our best friend.

Where to start - The so so determined Gunners win 1-0 over a so, so determined Hammers side.
It was a match that will be talked about for years by fans of both teams, but for very different reasons!
  • Leandro Trossard's late deflected strike broke the deadlock as Arsenal close in on their first title for 22 years
  • Arsenal keeper David Raya made vital saves from Taty Castellanos and Mateus Fernandes
  • West Ham saw Callum Wilson's stoppage time strike ruled out by VAR for a foul by Pablo on Arsenal keeper David Raya
  • The Gunners are now five points clear of Manchester City with a game in hand, while West Ham stay in the drop zone

Spurs ended up drawing 1 all with Leeds United overnight, with the relegation battle to continue
  • Mathys Tel puts Spurs in front after 50 minutes with superb curling 20-yard strike
  • Dominic Calvert-Lewin equalises for Leeds United from the penalty spot after Tel fouled Ethan Ampadu
  • Spurs two points ahead of relegation rivals West Ham but could be in drop zone by time they travel to Chelsea in eight days' time

Tottenham Hotspur squandered the opportunity to take a significant step towards Premier League safety as they were held to a draw at home by Leeds United.

Mathys Tel put Spurs in position to extend their lead over West Ham to four points with a spectacular 20-yard strike five minutes after the break.

Spurs' goal hero then turned villain 16 minutes from time with a reckless bicycle kick inside the area that caught Ethan Ampadu in the head.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin equalised from the resulting penalty after a video assistant referee (VAR) review as Spurs failed to make it three league wins in succession after victories at Wolves and Aston Villa.
