Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Mate I like you but talk like this pisses me off.

Benji has invested his blood, sweat and tears turning the club around.

He deserves more respect then you are giving him.
Benji is contracted to the next century and beyond ..so its a moot point
However..Ivan has to be bracketed with Bennet/Bellamy and Gibson as one of the best NRL coaches ever
But if we had to choose. today....or even tomorrow..

I know UTT but there’s just a nagging feeling in my head that had he fully committed to us we may have had something special.
Another thing is that Benjis built a squad of devotees around him, and has done some good things but hasn’t really done anything yet.
Remember that our roster is 91% Pacific Island which means Benji has built a group in his own image, which I pray turns out to be a smidgin as successful as Penrith.
I’m not meaning to disrespect Benji, just merely say imo Cleary is in another coaching league of only 3 members. Bennett, Bellamy and Cleary !

Doesnt Nathan wanna be with his girl?
PNG makes that even harder

Lets see how accurate pubehead is....
Yes he does but she has just signed a new contract, so she anit coming back to Australia any time soon .
Maybe Nathan takes a 3 year pay day with PNG , that sets them up for ever , and he can finish of with a 2 year at super league in England close to the girl
They’ll have to because to get the tax free deal, they’ll be paid in PNG Kina at the equivalent of Aussie dollars but as Australian citizens if they are offshore for 183 days or longer there are special provisions that will need to be worked around about re entry to Australia.
ir wrong , on 360 a few weeks ago , they covered this , they will pay no tax in PNG and when they return the aust government will not tax them either , this was all put together by ALBO , he is so good at giving away OUR money

Thanks bp, I didn’t see that but clarifies the situation. We mustn’t forget this whole exercise is politically driven, to stop
Chinese expansion in PNG, because the PNG govt was on the verge of signing a deal with China .

Look a the development of the non-Polynesian players, Twal and Douhie are in career best form

91%? I assume you're exaggerating to make a point but that number is closer to 60%. Not sure why it matters tho.

Ur right about china , but we just can’t keep handing out money , PNG already gets millions , we are getting hit with energy and cost of living and it is just going through the roof , when u think about it china can come back with billions when ever they want , so do we then throw more money at them 🥴

Specialist left side player isnt he? Gee seems hard to find anyone who likes playing on the right these days
Lol, yeah.
And don't forget how the lack of re-signings was all HBG's fault !!!
Haven't seen one of the many experts that gleefully ripped into HBG for us not signing anyone, say anything positive for us actually re-signing a whole bunch.
Never miss an opportunity to bring up HBG. Any news is good news for you, right?

I saw the 91% quoted on line a few weeks ago, that’s why I quote that figure.
It matters only in that a certain type of player, in awe of Benji, has been drawn to the club.
I don’t recall hearing Cleary or Munster or others say they grew up loving Benji. But young Pacific Islanders were in aware of him and whilst some are good players there are many who wouldn’t get a run elsewhere.
Take Herbert for instance, from the same town as Benji and I even heard Benji say a few weeks ago have to look after your neighbours. Nice sentiment , but enough for a contract - not really.
Luai, loved Benji growing up, plays in a similar way some times but worth $1.2m, not by my reckoning.
Would he have got the same elsewhere - no. But Ivan brought out the best in him then realised when he was done, same as Api, Burton, Critter etc. All allowed to leave and have done ok but no premierships.
It was Ivan’s coaching that pulled that group together and for those with short memories he took a substandard Tigers roster and turned them around before he left.
And his brains trust are Yeoh, Edwards and Cleary, what more can I say !

Yes they have billions, however they dont have Rugby League...and thats the whole point.
