Leichhardt Oval news

Hopefully it IS for a roof on that north end stand and hopefully they redesign it....reminds me of the old bleachers they brought to Orana...surely we can do better...it has to be done better because once its done we are stuck with it
I don’t see the roof costing 20m dollars though . Hopefully it will enough to etch pretty closely to the original 90m dux guts proposal originally put forward by Darcy Byrne. (With the weird blue seat colours for some reason)

Major funding boost for iconic NRL ground

MSN Story by Ike Morris • Weds 14 May 2026

It is considered the eighth wonder of the world by local NRL fans, and now there is good news in sight for a historic Sydney sportsground in need of an urgent upgrade.

The federal government confirmed in Tuesday's budget that it would set aside $20m over the next two years to "upgrade and restore" Leichhardt Oval in Sydney's inner west, one of two home grounds for the Wests Tiger NRL team.

With a standard capacity of 20,000 spectators, the oval also hosts NRLW and Women's A-League matches, along with local amateur rugby league and soccer matches.

The funding is on top of $40m in joint funding between federal, state and local governments announced by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in June 2024 and will go towards increasing the seating capacity by 3000, building a new northern grandstand, adding new women's changerooms to cater for the growing number of women's sporting matches played at the ground, and improving corporate hospitality and media facilities.

Local sports fans have called for the funding boost in recent years as the ground's ageing facilities have entered disrepair. Former Tigers chief executive Shane Richardson threatened to boycott playing games at the ground in 2023 until more funding was allocated to improving the ground, which opened in 1934.

Speaking in 2024, Mr Albanese said the funding boost would continue to "be a hub" for the Tigers and for school, women's and girls' sport.

"Leichhardt Oval is a place where the faithful can go along and cheer their local sporting teams, and this funding from all three levels of government will ensure that spirit is preserved," he said.
No mention of CSS ?

Great news that money is being put in to Leichhardt. It's one of the most used rectangle grounds in Sydney. Its upgrade goes beyond us but I'm glad we're benefiting.

Better facilities for corporates is the key. Richo went on about how the club can't pull in the money it should because of its limited capacity to host high-end corporate functions. It's why we played so many games at ANZ/Wankbest/Cumbank over the years.
