Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

2. Turuva
3. Averillo
4. May
5. Makasini

I think that works well.

As for the Averillo v To'a debate ... at this stage Averillo is more reliable. Until To'a can put together a few games in a row that prove he's willing to apply himself in defence and that his body isn't totally busted, then we can't count on him long-term.
That won't work though, Turuva and Averillo together it will be bombs away, a clear weak link that every opponent will focus heavily on. You can't enter the field with such a visible weakness

Makasini will be an elite centre. We’d be mad to stuff that up. He hasn’t reached 10 games yet. Latu Fainu has to be our current best option for replacing Luai. The reels are finally turning our way, we just need to be careful building depth where it’s competition for spots rather than roadblocks for talent.
Makasini will be an animal. His only problem is that he’s 18. Very few players have come onto the scene at that age and dominated. They show you signs though. I remember watching Finefeuiaki at the Cowboys 2 or 3 years ago. Looked like a plodder. Now he’s one of the most damaging back rowers in the game. That’s come with getting a bit older. Makasini will definitely get there, it’s just going to take another year or two. I think he’ll be ready to explode come his next contract, which will be a fun little headache for all of us.

He still has baby fat on him two more off seasons and injury free one can not put into words the potential

And he still has some growing to do

He's at least equal to them. They're all questionable in defence but he's much faster than both of them.

Given we'll have toa and Turuva in centres for the next few weeks he'd walk into our side.

BUT Averillo would need to be paired with a big winger. If you played him next to Turuva, Tavana, Laulilii they would get slaughtered in defend and in the air.

I see what you are saying. I often think about the height and size of players paired together defensively. On that right side we have KPP and Adam Doueihi so maybe an option could be to split those two. Defend Averillo at 6 and AD at centre. Never ideal to defend players in spots they arent actually playing, but it really isn't a big deal that the centre and 5/8 swap one spot. Also allows AD to use less petrol so he can dominate with the ball. The modern game is changing so much, why not defend the centre at 6 and the 6 at centre.....its a simple move. AD's defence this year has been incredible.

Saukuru is currently a fair way ahead of both Tavana and Makasini. He's stronger and faster than both. Defence is a wyesy mark for all. He's much more powerful than all our other young backs.
Yes makasini had a high ceiling but so far he hasn't proven much in any competitive fixtures. He's been rushed in before he's ready. He is exclusively a winger at this stage in his development and is paying the price for our weak squad.

I thought Sol looked good in the trial at left centre. He looks to have a nice catch and pass for his winger as he shifts his body on the outside of his opposite. We cant play Faingaa can we?

So the Tigers have been linked to the following outside backs lately:
Jake Averillo - 25 years old (can play anywhere in the backline - currently on $450K)
Jesse Arthars - 27 years old (centre or wing - currently on $450K)
Gehamat Shibasaki - 28 years old (centre or wing - currently on $300K)

I haven’t seen the bottom two mentioned anywhere other than this thread. Arthars will go back to the Titans.

Just saw this "Zero Tackle" article about Thomas Jenkins and which teams SHOULD target him, Wests Tigers were named among another of clubs including the Broncos who are losing a few outside backs.

The Tigers may well be having a little bit of a look at Jenkins as a way to beef up their offering in the outside backs without breaking the bank.

As it stands, William Craig and Jeral Skelton are still off-contract at the end of the year, while Heamasi Makasini, Taylan May, Starford To'a and Sunia Turuva are their likely starters, with Patrick Herbert also signed.

While Makasini, May and Turuva have spots somewhere, you feel the Tigers may want to have a look at a potential upgrade. To'a is a serviceable player, but the club may not see him as a permanent part of the best 19."

The move for Jenkins would also allow the club to shuffle Makasini into his preferred position at centre, with Jenkins playing on the wing.

Jenkins and Turuva as the wingers for May and Makasini - it's an attacking match made in heaven.

I think Penrith will offer him another contract as they will likely lose quite a few players come end of next season, including BrianTo'o.
Other clubs, especially St.George I would suspect would be pretty keen to sign him.

It'd be nice to have some size on the wing, nice target for high kicks to the corner, 1 or more tries per game if our kickers are good enough.
How much will WT have in their cap if the Fainus, especially Samuella re sign & Averillo joins the club?
Enough to entice Jenkins over?

That’s what I believe too Arthars will end up a Titan .. but Shibasaki could end up anywhere .. from playing in GFs and SOO his price has gone up .. and Brisbane can’t afford to lift his price much higher due to having Walsh .. Mann .. Reynolds and Staggs already on larger coin .. then a bunch of young talented players coming through.

I also believe that the Tigers to keep the 3 Fainu brothers happy .. we will sign the 4th brother Manase Fainu .. he’s 27 years old and plays number 9 .. not sure how the younger 9s we have will handle this if sign him.

Are we missing something, Latu was the next big 1/2s signing but we don’t pick him at all , has benji changed his mine and is willing to lose samula , the tots just don’t add up , or maybe I just not seeing what benji is looking at
Latu has been very injury-prone over the last 16 months. It still looks like he's carrying some niggling injuries and hasn't regained his form.

That try saver on Xerri i think it was was late in the game showed hes still not right.
While it was a terrific effort and saved our arses....it was like a hugging tackle around Xerris waist...no shoulder used at all
