The NRL must INTERVENE

Strict KPI alignment with HBG’s strategic plan.

During pre-season planning, the CEO meets with the coaching staff to review corporate targets.

Coach: 'Our priority is getting our defensive line speed under 1.2 seconds and making the Top 8.'
HBG Board: 'Great, but our primary KPI for Q3 is a 14% yield increase on the Dragon Link pokie lounge at Croydon Sports. If your halfback can’t fix his end-over-end kick, can we at least get him to promote the 2-for-1 schnitzel voucher on match days
I don't understand those numbers. Did HBG provide a graph?

I did a hypothetical Q&A about what would happen to other prominent clubs if they were to adopt a debenture governance model and the answer was that they would almost certainly collapse.

Let's do another hypothetical Q&A.
What would happen if the WT were to adopt Penrith Panthers corporate governance model?

If the WT were to adopt Penrith’s modern, skills-based governance structure, they would not only replicate Penrith’s success, and because they also have the underlying framework and infrastructure, they would even surpass them.

Here are some examples and comparisons.
Junior Catchments
Penrith Panthers
Hawkesbury, Lower Mountains

WT
Dual Engine> MacArthur, Campbelltown and Balmain, Inner West.

Population Growth
Penrith Panthers
Steady suburban expansion

WT
Booming Growth Corridor> South-West Sydney growth centre (Oran Park, Wilton, Badgerys Creek Aerotropolis)

Socio-Economics
Penrith Panthers
Strong working-class footprint

WT
Diverse Footprint> Working-class nurseries combined with corporate Inner-West and CBD commercial base.

All disagreements, counter arguments are welcomed but can we address the argument presented here and not something else please.

Only a matter of time before our lot raise them one.

This really is food for thought regarding NRL interventions.

1. The Perth Bears: Orderly Process & Strict Compliance
The Bears' expansion constitution explicitly strips the local board of the power to unilaterally sack the chief executive. Ultimate authority rests with the ARLC and Chairman Peter V'landys. Rather than executing an illegal coup, the Bears board brought their grievances directly to head office for formal review.
The NRL exercised its veto to block the immediate dismissal.

2. Holman Barnes Group (HBG): Non-Compliance, Public Humiliation & Repeat Offenses
In contrast, Holman Barnes Group (HBG) acted in direct violation of basic corporate governance, resulting in a damaging public backflip.

The Double Breach: HBG unilaterally sacked Chairman Barry O'Farrell and three independent directors. This violated the Wests Tigers Company Constitution (which mandated strict consultation processes) and breached their NRL Club Operating Licence (which requires an independent majority board).
Public Humiliation: Because HBG's move was procedurally invalid, the NRL issued a stark ultimatum, reinstate the independent directors or risk immediate suspension of their operating licence. HBG was forced into a complete backflip within 10 days, suffering severe reputation damage, public member protests, and widespread media ridicule.
A History of Repeat Offenses, Why HBG Cannot Be Trusted & Future Turmoil Remains Guaranteed.
By accepting HBG's forced reinstatement as a resolution, the NRL patched an immediate crisis but left the root vulnerability completely unaddressed.
Their history shows a clear pattern, when independent leadership makes decisions HBG dislikes, HBG attempts to reassert control.

The NRL could have stripped the operating licence, enforce mandatory ownership dilution, and alter HBG's voting weight, but the NRL chose to leave an outmoded governance model in place, leaving the Wests Tigers permanently exposed to future boardroom volatility.

HBG's board currently faces a two-front battle: defensive litigation in court against Andreacchio, and mounting regulatory pressure from the NRL.

Invoking the "best interests" clause gives the NRL the authority to step in as mediator. The NRL can tell HBG:
"Settle the Andreacchio matter out of court, dismantle the debenture model, and adopt a modern constitution, or face immediate regulatory action under our overarching powers."

The Crawford-Barnier Review, the landmark, independent report commissioned by the club itself, provides the strongest blueprint for NRL intervention.

The Review provides several specific findings, observations, and recommendations that directly justify why the NRL has grounds to intervene.

Findings & Recommendations
Severe Governance Dysfunction Impacting Performance.

The Finding:
The review explicitly observed that internal Wests Tigers and HBG governance issues directly impacted harmony, cohesiveness, and effectiveness at the board level.
NRL Justification: The NRL's primary mandate is to ensure every franchise is run with stable corporate governance so that off-field infighting does not degrade competition quality or brand reputation.

To Every Magpies Fan, Every Balmain Fan, and Everyone Tired of Losing.

We are doing exactly what HBG wants us to do: dividing ourselves over details while the foundation rots.

Read through this forum and ask yourself: When did we become board auditors instead of football fans?
❌ Who owns what vote? Doesn't fix the pathways.
❌ How debentures work? Doesn't sign elite juniors.
❌ Who owed money in 1999? Doesn't win us games in 2027.

The Real Problem. HBG is starving our development, and the current structure will never fix itself from within.

The Only Solution. Direct, unyielding pressure on the NRL to step in and enforce governance reform. We owe it to the players, the kids coming through our catchment, and every long-suffering fan who wears the jersey. Let’s focus on the real target, push for real intervention, and fight together to bring this club back to where it belongs.

So many think criticism of the Magpies old faithful hanging onto to the past at the detriment of Wests Tigers is pro Balmain. They are morons of the highest order. So are any old Balmain folk who support Balmain more than Wests Tigers.
It’s the same with anything that people are passionate about. Emotion is blinding and makes people irrational.

Im one who critiques people bring bringing up the magpies. Why? Because it skews the conversation away from corporate structure and competency, ultimately our issue, to magpie v balmain. Even if its not meant as such.

The media continues to fail us in that respect and we keep feeding it. We need to shine the light on the real issues.

The rusted on dinosaurs are a symptom, not the disease. You repair the corporate structures and those idiots go away.

...and I'm one that believes that is the very reason they raise Balmain or Magpies as an issue. Muddy the waters and distract.

We haven't been able to change it in 15 years though? While I agree with what you are saying, I just dont see it ever happening. Just wai until these idiots start with their dementia , it will get worse.

I honestly think its only been the last two years that there has been clarity on the issue and the media still manage to get it wrong. I hope if we at least align here to a consistent message, the media will pick it up in their "reaearch" and put some pressure on.

We can't stop trying. Lets hope this court case sparks something.

This is actually quite an astute pickup. It’s far more likely that the NRL respond to the media picking this up than fans contacting the NRL. Previously the media did misunderstand it. Honestly I’m a long term member and I misunderstood it too. It was someone on here doing the deep dive a few years back that helped me get the debenture issue. Once you see the debenture system you can’t unsee it
