LIVE GAME Round 14 v the Panthers

Live Game Discussion
What's really disappointing, again, is the first 7 rounds for us.....it was such a different team and to actually give the supporter base that and then dish out 4 games of this is just deflating.

I also hate the direction the NRL has taken the game, certainly over the last decade. There's been a lot of blowouts this year, a lot, it's not good.

There's been 2 games so far where teams have scored 60+, 6 games of 50+, 19 games of 40+ (we managed 2 of those)........it's only round 14 as well.

We lack physicality and speed - and our depth is just not FG quality . Under the new rules we are no where near a top 8 squad it just exposes our weaknesses
How is expansion good for the game - despite what we dished up?? Clubs will be paying overs just to field a team.
Who is the lucky club that gets to play Penrith next week?
I think there's a strong argument for modification of the rules, and I thought I heard recently that many clubs had pitched to the NRL that the set restarts needed a re-think.

There are just too many one-sided scores for the comp. It's not just that Penrith are too good, it's that good teams are able to effectively shut out a match with a one-sided 20-minute period. For reasons not 100% clear, teams are not able to recover well from an early blow-out.

I believe 2026 recently became the highest average margin season, eclipsing the notorious 2021 season. Only 32% of matches have been decided by 10 pts or less (the previous lowest since 2020 was 54%).

And there may be right-sizing starting to occur where certain teams are more competitive with other non-Panthers contenders, but it's the yo-yoing of team form that also is hurting the comp. Cowboys are a prime example - beat Rabbits at home, beat Roosters away, hammered Sharks, whitewashed Dragons, beat Storm at home but were flogged by Tigers, Manly and Dolphins. Lost handily to Raiders who couldn't post a point against Roosters.

Don't forget, despite only being a trial, Tigers handled Panthers fairly well in the pre-season, so it can be done in other conditions.

Makasini is just pain useless
Cant tackle Cant catch Cant run
Benji stop putting kids on the front line
Charlie Murray also not a 1st grader
What is Maddens tactic ? Always kicks long so we can't contest any kicks
Luai poor with 1 try assist to his mates at Penrith
Just plain EMBARRASSING !
NO DOUEHI = NO HOPE .
Pointless whinging at 36-0 but ref ensures game begins with 18 tackles straight to Penrith yet Allomoti takes out Makasini who then cant tackle Too and is not a penalty ?
Also Penrith are able to make every play the ball by us Slow with the 3rd guy in the tackle .This is one of the secrets of their success and apparently is all ok with the refs .Other teams in contention ( not us ) take note !!
Comes back to having no real depth and making basic errors against a champion side.
And don’t anyone on here ever say again that Ivan can’t coach, and I’ll say this again - I wish he’d never left !

Agree 100%. Almost worse to start a season so promisingly, especially on the back of defence, then get smashed 4/5 weeks.

At least, if it's going to be another disappointing season, please let me come to terms with that in the first few rounds, not drop the bundle mid-season.

I was legitimately thinking, last week, we'd turned a corner and all it took was the return of some key troops like Api and Jahream to get us competitive again, in a topsy-turvey competition type of way where teams might put floggings to one side.

Yep...too many games blow out too early

Agree. Probably the slowest backline in the comp. No size in the forwards and also lack punch.

Jesus Christ……well we’re not making finals on the back of that. Gotta start Roberts next week on an edge because Geyer was soft and useless. Can’t play Makasini after that loss either. He wasn’t right all game.

Not sure where to go from here. It’s an embarrassment to the jersey playing like that. Back to the Tigers of old.

Can guarantee players are playing with niggles by now which is largely in our case because our depth is so poor. They do themselves no favours because people question their performance but when the cupboard is bare sometimes there is just no other options.
The demands of the competition hits us about this time consistently. We jagged a win last week but not expecting to have a run of wins anytime soon.
