We need to remember he's 18 still. Let him develop a bit. I don't think we see the best of him until 21 or 22.

Do you really think he has? I like him, I think he’s a good player and we are always better when he’s in the team. But he’s 24 or 25. He’s not a dynamic runner (lacks acceleration, is lithe, and therefore not powerful). I kind of think he is what he is. He’ll always be an 8 to 10 ranked fullback out of 17 to 18 teams.

I was ambivalent about re-signing him.
No doubt, if we did not re-sign him, his many fans here would have gone berserk and would now be saying his poor form is due to not being re-signed. Well, it’s not that.

He is proving, again, that he just isn’t that good.

He doesn’t break the line. He doesn’t offer a creative option. Shown up by Fuller and Kini in successive weeks.

Hope someone else comes in. Bula can be back up. If this year has shown anything, it’s that we lack depth.

The opposition every week early in the season went after him… ( legally) ..,

The step up from the lower grade to NRL is a massive one and should be strongly considered when promoting an 18 yr old

Averillo and Blore would definitely improve us, but still not good enough to get us into the top 8, we need a couple more good quality players to add depth.

Why do people keep saying "add depth".

Our problem is always the quality of 1-17. not 18-30.

We need to trade depth for quality and that's what I think Benji has been doing with punting Jack Bird (400k) for Pat Herbert (150k/min). We have to keep doing this till we get a first grade 1-17.

Then you can start upgrading guys like Starford (who is finally regaining form admittedly), or look at our forwards and add beef there.


We need our first grade to be of a higher quality, if we can improve our reserve grade sure. The focus of our cap and spending should be getting a good first grade side.

A nation of 400 Million people who usually dominate most olympic sports. The only reason why they did not do well at Soccer is they did not care about soccer. Now they are starting to care...

Against:

27 Million Australians, A nation that can get to the top 5 Olympic spots. Yet also doesn't have Soccer as our national sport...

There are more people who play registered soccer in America than there is people who play across all ages and game levels (rec/youth/competitive etc) in Australia

I think Bula is a bit of a victim of our teams overall lack of speed...hes easily handled when half chances arrive because the defence hasnt had to work too hard.
Hes been disappointing lately lowest run meters of all fullbacks so far this round
Our.lack of speed compared to probably the fastest team in the comp was extremely evident yesterday.

We really need to recruit some fast outside backs and a big kicker

Maka needs a year in cup, apart from the Penrith trial I don’t think he’s dominated a game all season

He appears to have had his confidence smashed out of him. Hopefully he can come good, but it might have to be in cup.

I would have targeted Tyrell Sloan for our wing. He's a different commodity to the normal winger but needs a coach who can bring out the best in him. Also yesterday, it was two impressive young footballers who hit the go button when they sensed a weakness and try scoring opportunity. Haywood went into overdrive at dummy half to get the ball to Andrews who sent that outrageously good pass to our left winger for the try. Also Attard backing up the middle to take the pass from Haywood was a classic fullback play. There's lots to be excited about but they need time.

You can tell both he and taylan are not using their fend as much, for maka its a confidence thing and probably shoulder injury related and for taylan its shoulder injury and risk of recurrence.

There are very few players that are just genuine dangers.

Koroibete, Nofo (he couldn't tackle, but he could cross the line), Tukali...

Even Johnson and Jenkins are underrated.

Makasini is the closest I have seen to being an attacking weapon for us in recent years. Hopefully he improves.

Wouldn’t be surprised if his shoulder is a concern, noticed as he hits into the line he tries to enter with his right side instead of left which is what he normally does. A 50% fit Bula is better than any other option we have.

Taylan and Bula with their shoulders are definitely not at 100%.

Peversely, I'm happy to see Foz killing it at Manly this season. But he has benefited from a dream run with injuries, Turbo aside. Their depth is worse than ours. Their reserve grade team is utter filth. They've lost 12 straight. Wests beat them 46-12 today after possibly our worst first half of the year.

Thinking the same, incredibly lucky on the injury front and a reasonable draw as well. Id like to see how they travel, or any NRL team for that matter missing 5 -6 starters.... Copping it from the MSE faithful is the pits. If I hear them tell me about Fozball winning the comp one more time im choking someone out 😉
