Josh Schuster #

This is a great opportunity for a guy who was one of the most exciting young talents going around in 2021/22. Unfortunately he's battled clinical depression, which has really impacted his career.

If you think back to 2016, Kieran Foran went through his own struggles with addiction to drugs and prescription medication as a result of depression. He managed to turn things around and has become a role model for players dealing with similar challenges.

Hopefully this can be Josh's redemption story too.

Captaincy is about leadership and respect. Don’t have to make a lot of noise if his teammates get it !
API is a good example.
It’s also about fronting the media and articulating the message the club wants out there. I don’t think he would want or need that. Just rip heads off on the pitch.

God Benji is sounding a bit desperate lately, first Folau, then Cotric, now Schuster! I guess we need the depth, but they seem like desperation signings, imo. Good on him for exploring the options though and giving the kid a chance.
These signings or attempted signing are for reserve grade but come with experience Folau - Josh Sch - Cotric - Dunster - all experienced , played first grade prior to, good back up and most likely cheap

Me likes.

Young bloke who got a bit lost. I’m no too worried about first grade for him. I would celebrate him enjoying his footy and continuing to build his life as an adult.

Exactly, nothing else really matters. If the exceptional skill set he brings can help the development of the youngsters around him, or even just in opposed sessions mimicking the next NRL match's playmakers, it will all be a bonus.

Great time to join IMO.

He spends the rest of the season in Cup and if all goes well will have a full offseason the prove himself and get back into 1st grade.

He sounds like he is in a good place and lost kilos.

If Benji gets the best out of him he is well on his way to becoming a coach where player want to be and happy to take unders. (IMO he has done a remarkable job so far considering he didn't do junior coaching like most coaches do)

Hope im wrong for Schusters sake ,think he's just walked into his last chance saloon . He was on a softly as you go contract at Souths this year and didn't really move the dial over there, will having a few close mates about change much for him here?

He left Souths about this time last year to work through his mental health concerns. Hard to move the dial when you haven't played for over a year.

The kid lost 33kg in 12 months - to me, that shows he's dedicated and was prepared to take responsibility in delivering himself to a club in reasonable shape as a first step. It shows initiative and maturity. A positive sign more than negative.

Good on him for having a proper crack.
